its mainly from the wheel over 65mph the wheel vibrates side to side maybe 1/2 inch. Turning doesn't seem to affect it much but you don't tend to turn much on roads you drive at 65mph+ speed ithat its noticeable at. not sure about the wheel bearings any play seems to come from the rack.. CV boots look ok

I disconnected the left side and went for a drive - same symptoms I noticed while the wheel was off the ground if I grab the tire 9-3 and move it back and forth there is a bit of movement in and out of the rack when it moves I can see the steering wheel moving a bit - is this normal? I am thinking its got to be either the rack or a wheel bearing

There is a bad vibration coming thru the wheel at highway speeds, feels like its definitely coming from the front. I changed the tires and had them all rebalanced etc. The dust boots on the steering arms were torn and the inner tie-rods had play so I just changed them and had it re-aligned I can feel the difference in the steering now but the vibration persists... scratching my head a bit because the outer tie-rods / ball joints look ok If I get the car to 70mph and shift it to neutral the vibration remains so it doesn't seem like its motor mounts, they look ok

That sounds about right I got some tires fitted there the other day and it was a total mess. I had to get the supervisor out so they would do the job since I didn't buy the tires there. Then they took about 40mins to write me a reciept. Driving back the car felt realy weird. I checked the pressures and they put 50psi in the front right, 45psi in the right rear and 32psi in the left side! The car runs 205/55/16 at the front and 225/50/16 at the rear. My friend got his done at walmart and they stretched one of the fronts on the rear and put a rear on the front! Everyone else around here quotes $100+ to mount and balance new tires but I am beginning to think it might be worth it!

hi we noticed a burning almond smell coming from the car. The upper front radiator hose was torn and leaking coolant on the engine. The car seemed fine though it was not overheating or anything. I pulled it off and replaced it then topped up the coolant resovoir that was a bit low. Also I pulled the radiator cap off and ran the engine till the new pipe was hot and topped up the radiator. Is it good to go do I need to do anything else to replace coolant or bleed it?

I've had a 2.2 96 legacy brighton Auto with 150k for about 5k miles and its great. I have noticed a few things I am not sure whether they are the character of the car or the start of problems: If I try and reverse gently on the gas out of a parking spot with a lot of lock on the car sort of shudders. it feels like the powers not getting to the rear and the fronts not able to push it back. This is only a problem untill I give it some gas and it lurches back. I'd rather I was able to reverse smoothly, is this the start of a torque bind problem? Another thing its always done is when the AC is on and I'm stopped on the brake at lights you get a vibration come up thru the dash. Its like its not idling right and it just annoys me so I end up putting it in neutral. Also my wife says it is slower to shift from 1st > 2nd than when we got it but i haven't noticed that. I'm in Savannah and theres no subaru place round here I have found

thanks I corrected my location The other day we tested a 97 legacy wagon, I have never driven AWD b4 and it felt bad. The FWD light was on but I figured it meant "Four Wheel Drive" even though it was pulling to the right and felt like realy bad torque steer in a front wheel drive car. Only when I got back and found this board did it all click into place this cars AWD was totally broken!
