  1. Back off- I have a deposit on it!! This is out at Rapp, the car was bought and serviced there, was just traded in. Got to see the whole service history. One of the reasons that I was looking at used dealers that also sold new subarus. I didn't ask them to fix anything they probably wouldn't to put it on the lot. One thing I did see was that the rotors had a little rust at the inner and outer edges, chewing at the pads a bit. This makes both the pads and the rotors effectively smaller, which made the brakes feel weak. All the used dealers seem to price right at the upper end of the KBB private-party price. I just missed an '01 outback with 25K miles for $12k- missed it by 2 days. Dave
  2. I'm a subie newbie, but this generally means there is a blocked/missing drain hose. Where the AC coil gets cold, there is a condensate drain hose that goes from that 'box' down to the bottom of the car, befind the engine, on the firewall, on the passenger side. The hose might be on the outside of the car (on the firewall) or it might go through the floor on the passenger side, right up where your feet go. Dave
  3. I put down a dep. on the 2003 55Kmile LLbean outback. They are a tad anemic, wonder how much the geegaws and frooferall weigh? Anyway, my purchase is contingent on the usual list of little things to be fixed. A question- does the timing chain cover get put on with a bunch of red RTV at the factory? This car was purchased at, and always serviced at the dealer where I'm buying it, but they have no record of the timing cover being off. I was surprised at the dual sunroofs, disappointed that the front one only tilts. Thanks for the responses to my prev questions- Dave
  4. Oh, I did, oh crap... coming off of a V6 4.0L '92 Ranger, I'm just used to 6's being V's! From my searching so far, the 6 seems to do well for mileage on the highway, where I do about 75 miles of interstate every day. This one is a 2003 beaner edition with 55,000 miles, they are going to list it at $15,500 (subie dealer with a used car arm). So far, as long as it'll run fine on 87 octane, I don't think the 6 will be a problem. In the area there are a pair of '04s, 14K for a 60,500 mile one and 15K for a 47,000 mile one. This LL bean one looks to be a slightly better 'deal' than the 47,000 mile one. Dave
  5. One of the used subies I have in my sights is a 2003 LL bean edition- not looking for that specifically, but it popped up. What're the downsides to the 3.0L 6 cyl? What highway mileage can I expect? Does the 6 overwhelm the drivetrain at all? Thanks, Dave
