  1. Ok, so i have a quick question from any of you '74 1400 owners. Should the vacuum advance hose be running from the manifold or the carb? That's all i need to know. Thanks, -Dusty-
  2. anyone have a working email for them? Oh, and why do you recommend the manual choke?
  3. What's the best way to go to make sure it is jetted correctly? I really think i am going ot go this route cause i am tired of the hitachi's flakiness. -Dusty-
  4. Or is there a way to fit a SPFI system on the 1400? thanks,
  5. So.. Anyone here done it? After all of my recent bs, i'm really considering it if i know it can work. Thanks, -Dusty-
  6. guess that would have been good info. it is a 74 gl, with the 1400 and hitachi carb. Weather is down around freezing, or within 10 degress either way. I'm also a mile up in altitude. It does ok when it is choked.. It starts to stumble and miss when it warms up and fails to idle once it is warm. It doesn't even try, it just dies. -Dusty-
  7. Ok, so here is the new one. Car runs fine and idles when it is cold and the choke is closed. Once it warms up it starts to have dead spots, and has a hard time idling. I know that the choke is opening, but i'm wondering if i am running too rich/lean. Any input?
  8. When it is cold, the car will die until it warms up a little bit. Any ideas or commons reasons?
  9. i screwed with the choke settings earlier, so i think i need to set it properly.
  10. So, On my 74 1400 when it is cold i get a lot of hesitation and what not, after it has warmed up a little bit, it runs fine. I figure it is possible that the choke plate is closed off too much, but i could be wrong. any ideas? Thanks, -Dusty-
  11. I think i fixed my issues! I was running way to rich. I adjusted the idle mixture screw quite a bit and now she idles well, doesn't die, and doesn't jerk while coasting, etc. No i just have a speedo issue which i posted in a new thread. -Dusty-
  12. So.. Any reason for my speedometer to suddenly start reading well over actual speed? I'm talking like reading 60. but only going 40 type of error. My car is a '74 subaru GL (1400) Thanks,
  13. So i found my major vacuum leak. it was the gasket above the carb to manifold gasket. I still can't get it to idle real low, but it will idle around 1200 now which is much better than it was. I have noticed tht the idle seems to hunt a little bit. any ideas?
  14. Haven't decided to weberize it just yet. I'm gonna be replacing a lot of gaskets tomorrow, but i'll go check out your thread and see if anything rings a bell. I could be wrong, but i do believe my engine has a vacuum control valve.. You have any pictures of it?
  15. I need to try to do that again. I remember it doing that, but i can't remember where from. I'll take it up to work on monday and see what i can figure out. Need to replace those gaskets i mentioned earlier anyway. I'll let you guys know what i find. -Dusty-
  16. I replaced all of my vacuum lines already. I'm picked up a subaru engine gasket set foe the motor, so i will be replacing some gaskets. Valve covers, oilpan, possible intake. I'm curious if i have a leak there. I don't know if my idle air screw is set anywhere near where it should be. If i can get it idling i'll play with it some.
  17. So... Still having issues. I can't get it to idle below ~1500 rpm. There any common things i should look at? -Dusty-
  18. Adjustment would be a real pain, but they look hot. There are times i will sacrifice functionality for looks. -Dusty-
  19. Sweet. when i have the cash and time i will give them a call. Thanks.
