UN-STICKY : East Coast Meet 10/25/03
PHATBRAT replied to Dennis ex24's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
EJ, It's all still together. He basically torched the body off and said here, You can have the rest. There is a pic in my album. Boz -
How much difference does the spider intake really make? What is needed to go with it?
-
Jerry, I am hoping to get a 4 inch kit by PK but that probably won't be for quite a long time. The tranny should be in LONG before then.
-
Gotta love being out in the country....I have a friend who inspects my cars but I haven't had them inspected in about 5 yrs now so I'd say it's time, huh?
-
No problem and no big rush. Let me know when you have something though. Also, Do you need to know if we are installing a lift (So you know how long the shifter needs to be)????
-
Hey Dave, I am sure you can find some tricks in the sticks. But I guess you may be right, They may not be free......

PHATBRAT replied to PHATBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
And just where would I find this magical book???? -
Just depends where you are. We are supposed to because they do check that stuff in the bigger cities, Philly, Pittsburgh, but out by where you are, SHouldn't have to worry about it for a few more years. Get to know someone now.

I finally got my D?R 5 spd and need a kit. Don't have money yet. I can't send you the shifter because the guy from the junkyard torched it off when he removed everything. Not sure what else I needed to send besides my BRAT shifter. Right now, My BRAT is my daily driver so I was wondering if you had any of these parts available up your way that you can make me a kit and I just pay you for the parts that I should have sent. Let me know, Boz How much? Also, LUVMYBRAT is looking to get ahold of you too. Thanks man

Properly installing timing belts on EA82?
PHATBRAT replied to viceversa's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I concur with your clarification. I looked it up and you are correct....now -
Do webers come in the form of a single barrel also or are they all 2 BBl? How the heck did they ever come up with the abbreviation BBL for barrel? When utilizing dual carbs, they have to be exactly the same and also tuned or set exactly the same correct? I know on motorcycles they do but I don't know why I feel so stupid right now, I am asking. So if I put dual webers on my car, how come VW's can do it but some here say it's too much gas for our subes? They are approximately the same CC's. Or are they using smaller carbs? If I use 32/36's can't I just re-jet them so they are "smaller"?

Which would be what time? Anytime is good for me, Just need to know so I am ready. Thanks, Boz You didn't say if you were bringing the lift or not, but I don't think that will be enough to support this much weight plus I don't know if it will reach back far enough to hook it up. ??????? If you can give me a time, then maybe I could convince Dennis to swing up this way too. That way we could all be here at the same time. Thanks again, Boz

It appears the Gallery is down for some reason, I can't get into it at all. I've tried about ten times. It's 950 on the east coast Thurs night. Boz

Going True Dual's will be expensive. What I did on my old BRAT was cut the Y-pipe and re-welded it so that the exhaust flowed more freely. The stock pipe meets at a 90 degree bend which if you think of it full of water, when it hits there it will cause sort of a back up. I re welded mine so that both sides came in at 45 degrees and I had 2 1/4 inch with a glasspack and split in the rear for dummy duals. It worked spectacular. A definate notice in power and sound. I had people believing I had a small block 327 in there. I also got rid of the CAT. Where I come from it's corn bread and chicken, Whoops, I mean where I come from, we don't worry about emissions. A definite kick rump roast mod.

@20 minutes. Are you gonna bring "The Lift"?? When are you gonna swing by?
-
I only want to do this once, so I want to do it right. Besides, I don't have a torque wrench. The only one I had was bent a long time ago by one of my OLD numbnut friends. Never got a new one. Boz

Turbo performance mods (87 GL wagon)
PHATBRAT replied to a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just for the record, The EA performance page was for EA81's and EA82's. I have done the thermostat mod and it works out pretty good. I don't know where the guy lived that wrote it but I said screw it and I put a 160 in my old BRAT and didn't have any condensation problems with my oil. I am in NJ/PA area. Go for it, Just make sure you get the 54mm oblong shaped thermostat. They are not round. Boz -
EA81 Performance Mods--Best Bang for the Buck?
PHATBRAT replied to Dante's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just for the record, For years, no one has ever doubted the 2wd disty swap until recently. Skip said he looked up the 2wd vs the 4wd and they have the same advance curve. Now I don't doubt him for a minute with the facts that he has brought to our attention because he looked them up in a book (Which could be wrong) , He seems to be a pretty smart guy, however, I have done the swap and I still say I notice the difference. And up until he said anything, everyone who has done it has also stated a noted difference but since he said this no one has said a word about it except for me. Just thought I would share this fact with you. That way, If you decide to proceed with the swap you can let us know what you find. Boz -
Properly installing timing belts on EA82?
PHATBRAT replied to viceversa's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
XSNRG, Unless that year EA82 is different, then I would have to disagree with you. I am looking at the FSM for 1987 and it states if both the timing belts and head gasket are new then it should have 33-55 lbs but if it is other than above it should be 24-46 lbs. This is for belt tension. Straight out of the book. Boz -
Timing Belt Tension Wrench? If so, May I please borrow it? ASAP. I am at the point with my engine that I cannot progress without it. Thank You, Boz
