Good day, I am happy. Link added (Pic)
PHATBRAT replied to PHATBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Forgot to mention, I only got 4 of them. Will be looking for a fifth. Otherwise, I can use my pug steely spare and throw a larger tire on, whatever size I do get. I think I am gonna take one of those spare tire holders off the back of an SUV and mount it to my tailgate. or better yet inside my bed. Heck, Maybe I should just fab one up, it would be sooo easy. That way I can angle it like the baja trucks do, I like that look. Ken, what size are your tires again? Do you have extra room or is that the max for you. You have the 4/3 lift right? Also, Is your suspension cranked all the way up? I would like to have the widest tires I can put on there. Probably gonna get Super Swamper TSL Thornbirds. I always loved them. I will be on the street more than the trail and so I am gearing more towards looks but still have off road capabilities. Last one, How much did you have to trim your fenders? -

Ken, No they are different than yours. They are shiny with holes in them. I don't think they are factory yoda rims. If I remember correctly, they are either just like or at least similar to Hassey's. Too bad they had 33's on them. It was a bitch getting them off because the truck was in a place that they would have to move a bunch of cars to get to so I dug in some trunks for some cheapy scissor jacks which really didn't help much so I ended up tossing the lugs then between my rocking the truck and doing some (ALOT!!!!) of prying with an old leaf spring I finally got them off. As for the hubs (4wd Xt turbo), I couldn't get them because the rear axles were spinning (Car was in air on top of another car and didn't even have tires on it.) Right rear side had about 4 inches between the hub and a VW rabbit diesel that looked just like one I used to own (I miss that car). Broke my damn needle nose pliers just trying to get the cotter pin out. (Wish I woulda brought my screwdriver) Here's a question to the GURU's: On the 4wd XT turbo, Are the front and rear hubs the same? If so, that would make life sooo much easier. Looking forward to your reply, Boz -
Question on 1986 gl D/R sedan.57K miles
PHATBRAT replied to N8NQU's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There are a few of us in NJ if you would like someone to check it out for you before the long drive. I am sure it should be fine with such low miles and the fact that the dealer serviced it but there are some shady dealers out there. The dealership near me is full of A holes who do nothing but try to rip you off. Boz -

Just wanted to let you guys know I finally got the rims I wanted. They came off of a six lug toyota. 80 bucks, cheaper than new but still expensive junkyard wise. I hate NJ. I couldn't get the hubs I needed but no worries, I'll get them in time. Now I just need money for a lift and some time to play around back at the base. (I am out now so I have to get back on) Just thought I would let ya know. I have pics of my "new" rims if anyone wants to host them for me. Whenever I get some money for some tires and my lift and get them installed I will have some nice 15 inch Pugs for sale. I actually have some extra now if anyone needs. And there are some at the yard I was just at. I will probably just make a post of all the things I can sell at this time in the marketplace later tonight. Oh what a day....... -
Pretty good!

I have the socket for the axle nut but I need to know the size of the bolts holding the hubs on. Something makes me say 14 MM but I don't remember. I want to pull the rear hubs off of a 4wd XT turbo. Thanks in advance, Boz

Australia Breed Of Subaru =)

Damn, You must be rich!!! Both BRUMBY's are beautiful! Nice RX-7...I always liked them! And the WRX...The gold rims are awesome! For some reason it reminds me of people in this country with gold teeth -
Anyone else??? I am thinking the hubs would be stronger than the rims plus it won't make the rims look half assed. What do you think?

"but I need to take another trip down to ur house so I can get my shaft done!!!" .. .. It just doesn't sound good Jerry I will let you know
-
Where are you? I just tried cruising your site and it didn't do anything. The before/after pics came up but that's about it. No hyperlinks or anything. How much is a 4/3 lift? 4/4 lift? (For an 86 BRAT) Thanks, Boz

OK, Finally found one cheap enough but just want to ensure I read the repair manual correctly. To install the 5 spd into my 86 BRAT I will need the following from the donor car: Tranny, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and driveshaft. (And consoles) Is this correct? (Yes, I know that I am gonna have to buy one of Jerry's kits) speaking of Jerry where the heck is he??? Haven't seen hime in a while. So anyway, Do I have my parts needed list correct? Am I forgetting anything? I may need some clarification also when the install time comes but for now just want to get the parts. Thanks, Boz

Changing Ride Height on Brat
PHATBRAT replied to DPDISXR4Ti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Any good "medic" can make anything fit......... -
Is it better to drill the rims or the hubs when doing a six lug conversion and how do you guys handle the "angled part" where the lugs funnel in? (Do you know what I am saying since I can't think of a better way of putting it right now?) I found some REALLY nice (aftermarket) rims off of a Toyota that I am going to attempt to get and I think I may want to drill the hubs because I don't want the rims to look all rigged up and having extra holes and such But I want to know if this is actually better. I would think because the rims are not as hard as the hubs. Anyone have imput???

My wife is wanting to divorce me because I spend more time with you (Or your wife) {ON HERE} than I do with her. Surprised she didn't take my mouse or keyboard yet but I am prepared (I have a few extra)

Changing Ride Height on Brat
PHATBRAT replied to DPDISXR4Ti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Jack it up!!!! Actually, That little inch doesn't make that much difference but it definately can't hurt. I gotta be honest, When I cranked mine up I noticed, but then again I was used to my other BRAT which was cranked all the way down. Be aware, The rear torsion bar bolt to crank it up is usually VERY tight, and you don't want to snap it, Take your time with it and work it...... -
colder thermostat 160, 170?
PHATBRAT replied to MilesFox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, That EA performance page recommends 170 for the lowest because of condensation in the oil. I don't know where he was from because I ran 160 in my BRAT with no problems. Works good. (Especially if your sube runs hot) Yes, It is 54 MM but REMEMBER: It is NOT ROUND. -
check out Subarubrat's ride. He has a 6 inch lift with a chevy 6 cyl, I believe he has a LSD and some other assorted modifications. They are all cool with me. 4 inches is plenty to get around, depends on the driver and other mods and where you are etc...6 inches is cool too. I like the look of both.' 4 inches....6 inches.....whatever, It's not the size of the lift it's how you use it. SOME people have a lift inferiority complex around here........A.K.A LIFT ENVY

Yeah, I know what you are saying, I just swung by a yard that I haven't been to in about 2 yrs and he had a wagon (@87) that had a D/R 5spd and 2, yes 2, custom hitches both looked to be class 3. I can have it all for 150. And the best part is that is 150 pulled. I don't even have to get my hands dirty. (Yes, the hitches are front and rear). I feel lucky today too Ok, Just have to top it off, I went to a yard just down the road from that one and there was a yoda with really nice rims. (I'm gonna have those soon too, there's a story that goes with it....)

what kind of rollbar is this?
PHATBRAT replied to AKIRA's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hard to say, Maybe an older yoda. Doesn't look like a BRAT rollbar. Someone probably got tired of carrying it. -
I was wondering who would be the first wiseass, now I know. Ha Ha Ha :moon:

Man, I have been around a while and FINALLY got to 1600. Just so you know. Do I win a 5 spd D/R for the BRAT now??? Or a lift kit?

ATTn Skip (OR ANYONE, I NEED HELP)
PHATBRAT replied to PHATBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, When I do a 5 spd swap, I want to be sure to purchase the correct tranny Gotta be 5 spd and 4wd and from a turbo. I guess a wagon is my donor but I don't know if the pushbutton will work. I think the one I have now is pushbutton, But I can't say for sure, Haven't actually been in the car in ages. If it is, then it shouldn't be a problem (I don't think) -
