  1. I had my old gray BRAT up to 105 but it was downhill and floored
  2. I had one listed as a truck and one as a car. Depends what years because of the seats in the back was my understanding. It sucks because I was paying 36 dollars for registration on my old grey one then when I got this red one it was 56? dollars because it is listed as a truck. It goes by Vin number. I tried to tell them I had another 86 that was listed as a passenger vehicle (car) that costs 36 and I didn't understand why I had to pay 56? for this one. They looked it up by Vin # through the states website or something. Just another way for them to to make money................
  3. My sister has a Liberty. They aren't that great off road. (My Brother in law got stuck in the mud...wasn't that deep. Didn't need that much driving skills to go through there. Could be the stock tires though) I personally didn't take it off road but if he got stuck in that little bit of mud...... Then again, I guess I shouldn't say much since I wasn't behind the wheel. I guess I am just not a big fan of Jeeps.
  4. OK I see where this one is going. MOD: Can you please lock this thread if it gets any more out of hand. Guys, Let it be. I got my answer. P.S. I did NOT buy the tires. For everyone who answered, thank you. END OF THREAD, No need to reply now. Boz
  5. Yeah, I guess it is the way that some people "open up" to the board and present themselves. No biggie. We love everyone here unless they screw us over. (Word spreads, trust me) Anyway, we are all here because we have something in common, we have/love Subarus. There are always gonna be the knowledgable types (usually the person who learns through trial and error), the types with lots of money to pay someone else, the type that asks alot of questions and is still lost, and the types that think they know it all and pass advice (good or bad). Doesn't matter, we have to have the diversity otherwise it just wouldn't work out right. All newbies and lurkers, Welcome to the USMB, The greatest message board ever! Don't be afraid to ask questions, ask for help, post an idea that you have whether you think it's stupid or not, or compliment someone's ride. There's an answer for everything. Just learn to be patient and remember: Honesty is the best policy. Boz P.S. Everyone, this is a reminder to fill out your Bio
  6. Get rid of the rebadged GEO Tracker and get yourself the Subaru of choice (Same high pricetag, right) then go out and buy a 1990's Grand Caravan with a 3.3L. to haul the family around in. This is what I did because my wife also came with 2 kids (At the time 2 yrs old and 4 yrs old NOW 6 and 8) and now we have one more who is 2. (My first) The dodge caravan is the best selling minivan. Geat on gas, looks pretty good, very dependable, easy to get parts for and cheap. 3 kids....a van was definately the way to go. I am sooooo happy that I went this route, I have never regretted it. I drive my van everyday. And when we go on trips, it's like "see no evil, hear no evil." I turn the radio up and don't even look back there. They are no longer in my ear asking how much longer? or saying " I'm hungry, or I have to go to the bathroom" Well, At least I don't think they are.
  7. Well, I guess that settles it. I will have to pass, too bad, they are brand new tires with ALOT of meat. Not sure when I will get this lift built. I was hoping soon, but lack of money dampers me. I can weld and all of that and have access to a welder at the base but money is always the driving factor. The tires are 31x10.50's and I was looking to mount them on the rims I got off of that toyota a while back (Pics of rims are in my gallery) Speaking of those rims, Anyone have any suggestions for a REEAAALLLYYY good degreaser/cleaner. They have some sort of grease/grime build up on them, It is a ROYAL PITA to get it off. I let my degreaser sit on it for 15 minutes plus used toilet bowl cleaner, oven cleaner etc.... That stuff just doesn't want to come off. (I scrubbed it with a scouring pad) It comes off a little at a time but I feel like I may be ruining the rims (scratching/dulling) I want them to be decent looking rims (Yeah, they may end up getting dirty/beat up) but I want them to clean up nicely. Any suggestions?
  8. I found a really nice (brand new) set of 31" tires (real rugged/beefy) for a really good price (JunkYard). How much lift do I need to run them on my BRAT? I think I know but want to be sure. I have been looking into building a lift kit. I don't think the 4 inch kit will work. I think I need a minimum of 6 inches. Anyone? (Also, please include if you are talking about trimming fenders in addition to the lift or not) Thanks, Boz
  9. Dave, Looks sweet with the pugs, Can't wait to see it in person.
  10. ok, ok, It's late where I am (1:40 am) and I didn't really look that well. All I saw was a newer front end and I guess I wrote impreza because that is the only damn Subaru that you ever see in/on a magazine. And yeah, a rag only about old school Subarus really won't take off as well as we hope because the old ones are ugly/rusty and most people don't restore them or have a following for them like an old VeeDub, But there are people out there. Most of them are here. But there has to be a hell of a better mix than these other magazines. I am SICK and TIRED of Hondas/Acuras/WRX's/Mustangs/Camaros being the only vehicles that you see in the magazines. Don't get me wrong, most are waaaay cool and I have much respect for the people that customized/restored them but after a while, they all look the same. People buy the same body kits/wheels, have the same paint schemes etc...Here (Old school Suby land) none of our cars look alike (Unless they are all rusted) and everything that has been done to them is totally custom. Not a kit that you can buy, get my point. Many props to the people that have taken the chance to try something new, or have figured out a better way, or customized there rides etc.. These are the people that should be featured. This is what gets a reader's attention. This is what keeps them reading, gets them interested in Subarus. Just think of all of the modifications that people have come up with so far. Who would have EVER thought? How many times have you heard people laugh at a Subaru or say "it can't be done" It has been and still is being done. More and more, We are growing. For example: When someone sees a BRAT they may wonder what the heck it even is! Then they may see another that is lifted, painted, all done up etc.. and say, Damn! That's really cool, I want one, so they go out and buy a BRAT or a hatch or whatever and visit the board and it's all history from there. Or when the Jeep guy is embarrassed by the Hatch Patrol. What do you think he is thinking, or his friends. The more we put ourselves out there, the bigger the following will be. VW squarebacks weren't always cool, but then someone started fixing them up and modifying them etc, then there was a greater following. Now look at them. We can and are doing it. It has to start somewhere. I wonder how many people stopped to check out the Subarus at Carlisle. I wonder how many went home and said how cool they were, or how many people saw Scott's big blue monster and will want to do the same. Who knows? It's happening, slowly but surely. Anyway, I don't know where I am going with this and I think I got off track (I apologize to the originator of the post) so I need to get to bed. It's now like 2 am. Goodnight.
  11. I will commit to purchase at least 2 subscriptions if and only if, it is focused more on old school Subarus. Anything after 1993 is too new, however, I definately would not mind an occasional article or two pertaining to new school Subarus because I love Subarus. I would like to grow with them (If I could afford it) but some kind of write ups comparing how far Subarus have come but yet, showing that they are still basically the same in design. Also, like previously mentioned, reader's rides, tech write-ups (In extreme detail with many pics), of course, a section where people write in with comments/suggestions (That's what keeps a mag going and people happy), parts locator ads, at LEAST one article detailing the history of every model (from the very first year), History of FHI (Fuji Heavy Industries) events calendars/maps, (This may bring us some businesses that are willing to give a USC member discount), representation of the hatch patrol and other such related groups in different areas (Giving people an idea of where to go for help/ideas,outings, etc) and DEFINATELY, it MUST HAVE a dedicated page to the USMB so that people will be able to get online and check us out and hopefully join. (Is a classifieds section too much to ask?) Need more ideas let me know, my head is like a volcano erupting with ideas right now. You got us all excited here, hope this isn't a cruel joke. There is a great following of Subaru nuts out there, many are quiet but believe me they are there. So, when do we get the final word? (Oh yeah, just a suggestion, take the impreza front end off of the cover and put a pic of a nice BRAT there (Subarubrat's?). Oooh, here's an article, "The Subarus that should have been" or how about a shootout "BRAT vs BAJA" I gotta stop.. I am not gonna be able to sleep tonight, it's gonna be idea after idea after idea.....
  12. Cole, where's the pics? Do you still have the link to the auction? Is it the super nice red one that was on there a while ago?
  13. 250cc's is already more than enough to make that thing haul some serious *****. Let's not be ridiculous guys. I am sure scott will build something really cool, kick back and let him do his thing. If you guys want, you could build your own. (Then race em at the next meet n greet)
  14. Probably a bad exhaust gasket, typical of Subarus or second choice for crappy exhaust problem would be a Y-pipe with a hole in it right where the weld was. No biggie. Besides rust, that is why people look down upon Subarus. Because if they are rusted they look like sh*t and when the exhaust gets the slightest leak they definately sound like sh*t. (Happens more often in our little cars than most, I guess it's a design flaw of some sort)
  15. I've got a whole rear slider for sale cheap if you want it. It's ready to go. PM me if interested. Boz
  16. Mine had a piece of angle iron except it was aluminum ha ha and on it was a few of the little doohickies that you slid the cover over and then you turned them to keep it on there. I hope you understand what I am saying. What is yours like Mick?
  17. I just saw one on ebay, 4 days left. In Idaho. Do a search for Subaru BRAT and you will come across the tailgate. Looks decent.
  18. Man, If I could go back in time I would kick my own rump roast. I had one that eventually developed a small tear and I threw it away because I thought they were readily available.
  19. Have you added fix a flat prior to this happening? It will set your wheel off balance and once you gain speed it (The liquid in the tire) will start to spin inside the tire but not as fast causing it to become off balance. It will feel/sound like something is wrong with the tire.
  20. I know of a place that used to have a pretty decent tailgate for like 100 bucks. I will check and see if they still have it. As for the "goodies" I am not looking, I was just wondering.
  21. Did you tell him about the board? I am sad to see it go. I really liked that one. Are you still gonna be around the board?
  22. That must have been under another name considering you are only showing one post under this name. I don't know what you are talking about.
