Brats at Harry's U-Pull-It
PHATBRAT replied to DPDISXR4Ti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What color interior did they have? What kind of shape was it in (If you can remember) Any "goodies" on them? (Roll bar, A style pushbar etc...) -
Oil change for subarus = $10
PHATBRAT replied to northguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Forget the pic of the 360's......BORING! I want to see a few pics of the BRAT with a plow and wrecker attachment. That sounds really cool! -
How to get 220-230hp from 1.8turbo?

Does anyone know this wheel??
PHATBRAT replied to Hocrest's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks similar to a 93? Saab turbo rim. -
Yeah, That is a custom job. Looks like s10 blazer top to me. It sold on ebay 2x now. (Although a long time ago)

Does anyone have any pics showing the famous "pimp style interior"? I have the opportunity to obtain the interior (I only want the front two seats/seatbelts for my BRAT) but I want to be sure before I spend any money. Any pics would be most helpful and I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Boz

Damn, Looks like I ,once again, missed a good time. I actually had something to do that weekend, don't remember what it was but I definately couldn't make it. Hopefully next year. I gotta get workin on this BRAT. Scott, wanna help me build a big rump roast monster BRAT similar but different than yours? The looks will be different but I would like the same amount of lift because I want to run big fat tires on it. I like the look. From the side a lifted BRAT looks good but I am talking about the look from the front/back. I like the way yours looks, Thats the way it should look, like a truck. We need explicit details.

The rust is what you should worry about. If that is under control then you got nothing to worry about. EA81's are pretty easy to come by. Is it a turbo BRAT? If not, why would the guy throw in a turbo?

Used engine or trouble shoot....???
PHATBRAT replied to vwbuge's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Where in PA? Up near Bloomsburg I have 2 used EA81's. One is known to have a bad headgasket on one side but ran great otherwise, the other was from a car I bought from the junkyard. It was junked for rust reasons. Previous owner said it ran great. You can have both for 75 bucks, one time offer. Boz -
A little guy with a leaky hose isn't good.

Everyone knows I love my 86 BRATs. I have had 3 of them. I guess that sums it up for me.

The Hatch Patrol story-the unveiling(with pics)
PHATBRAT replied to Qman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Many Many Props go out to the people that are responsible for this. Not for the idea, cause that has crossed many a man's mind before but for actually doing it. It must have been a Sh*t load of work but as long as it works out for Ken and it is what Ken wanted then no one else needs to worry about it. It's Ken's ride. It's like someone else said (They beat me to it) We all have our lines that we will/won't cross and we also all have our budgets. Ken isn't afraid to use the mods he has made unlike others that have come/gone here. Me, I just don't seem to have the money/time. I have some stuff but just don't know if I will ever get around to it. Bottom line. You do what you want to your ride and everyone else will do what they want to theirs. It's not a competition. Now, Ken and whoever helped him can help others who want to do this. They did it because they wanted to. -
OK. Let's talk about this picture.

I see something but I am unsure what it is. -
Damn Doc, I say go for it! That sedan is exactly like mine minus the stickers. I want some rims now. (I actually have been wanting some for a while but had a different set in mind)

High Oil Pressure in an EA81??
PHATBRAT replied to Hocrest's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dave, Don't trust the guage in the dash, They always look either too high or too low. It may look real low but when you rev the motor it looks real high etc... If you are really worried, put a real guage on there, otherwise, don't sweat it. If you break that one I have a spare. I owe you anyway. As long as the car runs ok, I wouldn't worry about it. -
Mick, I think it looks nice as it is. I wouldn't go much bigger than that if you are gonna do it at all. With that type of rim It wouldn't look right with big knarly tires. It has that look that let's everyone know it is 4wd but with some class. Nice lookin BRAT. BTW, Where'd this one come from. I don't recall you having this one unless it's the turbo BRAT and you took the stickers off and waxed it up/painted it real nice. Boz

As weird as this may sound, an older gentleman once told me that Subaru was actually an american idea in the early 70's (I think he said early 70's) anyway, He didn't have the money to start a whole big car business so he went to either one of the other car companies or some other business for help to get it started and they laughed at his idea. "Who the heck needs a little economical car" is what they said to him. They liked the idea of big V-8's and such with power not some little powerless car that had good gas mileage. Like I said, This came out of the mouth of an older gentleman that I know very well who wouldn't just make this up. He said he read it or saw it on tv or something to that effect and he slightly remembers hearing something like that when subaru came out with their cars. interesting huh?

http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo25 Link to my album Dave I still feel terrible about your "engine hoist" (Giggle Giggle). If I get some money around I will buy you a new REAL, yes, REAL engine hoist. Cherry picker, engine crane, whatever you want to call it. Boz

Hey, I am just as lazy so no go on the link. As for the 5 spd conversion, Read the above statement about me being lazy. (I know where one is, actually, the same car with a bad motor, not as nice of shape but for 100 bucks you get the 5 spd, rear discs, H style alloys, some body parts (It's rusty), interior, etc.....) but I don't have that kind of time, I wish I did though. I COULD make a really kick rump roast car out of this one. Just lack the time/money. Besides, I'd rather have a cool BRAT than a cool sedan. Boz

For those that have been asking/wondering I finally was able to put up some pics of my 87 4wd turbo sedan. Not the greatest pics but you will get the idea. (They are in my gallery, I am still uploading 2 of them) Boz

No one saw anything????!!! Something doesn't sound right here. Who in their right mind would come back 2 times? We are talking large items here, not just car radios or anything. Well, there is a bright side to every story though. Use all the insurance $$ to put toward a new WRX.

PHATBRAT replied to n7zum's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do you have PepBoys in your area? On the original EA Performance Page that is where the author recommended. I went to 160 with my old BRAT with zero problems. Remember, the t-stat is not perfectly round like most.
