My first car, A 84 VW rabbit diesel in very nice shape...free. My second, a 78 F100 for 100 bucks. Ran that one for a few years as well. 86 Cougar 300 bucks (loaded up). This was years ago. I was always messing with 4 wheelers and such. I have a cousin however, that has only ever actually bought 2 cars. All of the others have been given to him. See, I already had a car (My gray BRAT) so I never wanted another car. (At that time) My parents would not allow me to have cars sitting around the house. Heck, Even when I got older I bought cars to buy/sell and my mom was mad as hell. She doesn't like all the cars around the house. Now that I have my own house it's my call. My wife doesn't like it but she's happier now cause I just got rid of car #5. Now I am down to 4.

Just curious how it is that my question about an air compressor that I was interested in buying got moved because of the lack of an off topic forum but a post about a Hummer H2 is still there with 2 pages of replies. By the way, I did purchase the compressor for those that PM'd me. Mod: (I am sure I know who moved/deleted this one..once again) and once again, Not an email, pm, or reply of any kind to let me know you were moving/deleting it and where. I already know why. People will still post there until OT is returned. I don't know why you feel the need to be this way. Like I told you before, It is not the solution to the problem.

PHATBRAT replied to calebz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

fastest/cheapest way to gain ground clearance

Drive it as fast as you can over a ramp. -
An old DL with high miles and a bad tranny? Eric, You are slipping. I am not trying to be negative but just honest. Me?, I would pass. I guess it all depends what you are into, what you like, want, need. I guess if you need the dash and some body panels it's worth it. I remember while growing up people couldn't even give stuff like that away. Oh well, As long as you are happy then I am happy for you. ....

For lack of a better space to put this I am asking here. Sears is having a sale on a 150 PSi air compressor that comes with the hose and a few tools and attachments for like $279. (30 gallon tank if I remember correctly) Not sure what the CFM's where though (What the heck are CFM's anyway?) My question is what do I need to run some tools like a grinder or impact wrench without worrying about it running out of breath? I thought it was PSi's but someone said it is actually the CFMs. (What are they) I know 150 PSi is pretty good but I am not sure what a good rating for a CFM is. Anyone knowledgable about these things (In depth, not just general knowledge) Thanks, Boz

Rebuild or toss - EA81 ???????
PHATBRAT replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mick, Keep it. Tear it down and see what you actually need. If it's not much, replace the part(s) and you have a low mileage engine with new parts. If it's all busted to hell then grab the good and toss the bad. I'm still hangin on to a great running EA81 out of one of my old BRATs but it blew a HG. You never know what your gonna get from the J/Y and they don't give refunds. Stop whining and get your hands dirty (J/K) Boz -
Andrew??? Hmmm. Let's see, He was supposed to buy some tires/rims from me. I waited and waited, emailed him, got a response with an explanation, I then waited and waited, same deal. I tried emailing him about 2 or 3 weeks ago to see if he still wanted them before I attempt to sell them here on the board or elsewhere. Permanent fatal errors on the email or whatever the message is. I figure he doesn't want my rims anymore but I can clearly see that he has email issues. I don't think he's a bad guy, a procrastinator, maybe but who isn't? I think he once told me that he lives near Paul so ask him if he has his # or something. I too can understand the frustration that you are dealing with. Sounds like you are being totally fair..."Send me the part or the money and that will be the end of it" kinda deal. Alright guys, I have something to say here. (Not specific to this particular post) If you have a part for sale and receive the money from the buyer, you BETTER be shipping the damn thing out no later than the next day. If you will be shipping any day other than the next day it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to let the buyer know and give a reason. That is courtesy and common sense. Why should you have your half and the other guy has to wait and worry? Maybe they NEED the part. Besides, most of us don't actually know eachother except that we meet here at the board. On the other hand for those of you doing the buying, Don't jerk someone's chain. They are selling a part because they want or even NEED the money. Don't tell someone you want it and have them hold it for you and then never send money or wait a long time before doing so. If they hold it for you, let them know when they can expect their money so they can have it boxed up and ready to go. If you decide you don't want/need the part anymore then let the seller know so he/she can relist it for sale. Once again, COURTESY It all comes down to COMMUNICATION!!! Don't put a part for sale unless you are ready to sell it. Don't say your gonna buy it unless you have money to ship. I guess it's not common sense like I thought.... Boz

Gareth, If they don't cost that much, give it a shot. You could always send em back if they are wrong. Boz (Near Trenton) -
Need an idea on pricing for a 78 Brat
PHATBRAT replied to benebob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I start at 200. Worse that can happen is they say no, right? Work from 200. Why start at 500 for an old BRAT that no one wants, right? -
EASY!!!! A couple of bolts for the fender and a couple screws for the turn signal. Alltogether, remove/replace 20-25 minutes tops. Nothing tricky.

OK Cool, Thanks, Now all you gotta do is look for someone close to you. If there is not anyone close enough, then we could give you some advise as to what to look for or like stated earlier, you could go blindly into a deal and offer like 30 bucks. Start pointing out things that are wrong with it. Get prices from a dealer or shop to fix them. Price a new radiator etc.....

"rad" ha ha ha ha ah hahahahahahahah I feel like I am 10 again. Thanks for the laugh ha h a ahahah As for the clips and stuff, I wish I could see. My PC is a POS plus I am on dialup. Oh well. You guys always have cool pics and stuff. I am sure that you had fun.

jstin, Where are you from? It doesn't say. If it did and you were close to someone here on the board maybe we could go check it out for you. This board has some very knowledgable people. You don't have to worry about someone stealing it from you, we aren't like that. So, fill out your bio a little and you may have someone offer to check it out for you. Boz

Funny that you say that cuz my flashlight needs a recharge and the lighting wasn't the best.....

Brat with power windows?
PHATBRAT replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am no expert but I THINK they may have made a BRAT with power windows. Probably the turbo automatic models. They were top of the line. Ask McBrat, if anyone would know it would be him. Other than that, I do believe I remember someone adding the necessary hardware and making the conversion. From what I understand it was fairly easy to do. (This was a few yrs back) -
People, Don't be misled, This is all my fault. I aplogize Myx, I think I mislead you because I looked too quickly. What I was looking at has the appearance of a carb, however, I just went down to my garage and upon closer inspection, I saw some fuel injectors. I guess what I was looking at only is an inlet for air. It would be under the part that says "4wd turbo" and if you actually look down in it you will see a butterfly which is controlled by the cable which comes off the gas pedal. Looks alot like a carb. We all make mistakes, the difference is not all of us admit them. Sorry. (I guess I need to slow down a little huh?)
-
I beg to differ my friend. I have, in my garage, a turbocharged EA82 with a carb on it. It is off of an 87 4wd turbo sedan. If you would like I will gladly take a picture of it. Phatbrat

I Found my Holy Grail Parts car today!!
PHATBRAT replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
WOW! Excellent score! I was gonna say, looks way to nice to be in a junkyard. Guess I was right. I just couldn't see the CD player in a car that was junked. How bout some pics of the whole car? Boz -
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! Say, Does you dad enjoy doing this? I could use a good bodyman. I have way less rust on my BRAT than you did so it wouldn't be near as much work. Tell your old man he does a great job! You are lucky to have such a talented father. Now you are gonna be driving one nice BRAT! Just for curiosity's sake, what did he use to make his cuts (When cutting the rust out) Looks nice and clean like a plasma cut. Boz
