So the other day when i was delivering pizzas i got stuck in a parkinglot with probably like 2 feet of hacked up snow so i was beating the crap out of my car trying to get out and by the time i finally did, there was a cloud of nasty smelling smoke which i am thinking is probably clutch because it doesnt smell like tires, anyway. Yesterday im driving on the highway in 4th gear and when i get to about 3500 R's they go up real fast to a little over 4, then catch again. This is the clutch slipping right? WHich probably means that i did infact fry it in that parking lot, Right? The car has about 95k on it and to my knowlege the clutch has not been replaced, i got it at about 74k. One local mechanic who usually isnt into boning his loyal customers quoted 7 or 800 dollars for a clutch. Im going to go to the tranny shop down the street for a different quote but i never go to that guy and im sure he would be less likely to give me a deal. I am not a backyard mechanic, the biggest thing i've probalbly done is an exhaust, should i not even attempt to think about changing my own clutch or is it just drop-n-go after you get the engine jacked up and such. I've heard that clutches on subarus are more expensive to replace because of the AWD. Anyway, if anyone could reply and tell me what i should do and\or what i should expect to pay that would be great, thanks.

sounds like what happened to my 85gl a couple years ago, although i sold mine at that point, it ended up being the carb, check your pcv valve and air cleaner and make sure there's no oil in there. If there is you might have to get the carbs cleaned or rebuilt. hope this helped.

i dont know if this will help but my first sube, an 85 GL FWD 1.8l handled AS WELL in heavy snow as my 99 ouback sport 2.2l, of course the tires on the 85 were probably no more than 7 inches wide so they were able to really dig down, but that car was a beast and i was only able to kill it after a f'ed up the pcv valve and got all kinds of oil in my carb.

you can get another for about $150 off ebay, maybe your discs are in less than perfect condition and the defroster is causing problems with the laser. id say either get a replacement off ebay or if your looking to spend a few hundred, get a real nice double-din stacker with more power, better sound and preamp outputs if you decide to install some subs later.

i was reading about swapping an ej20t into an earlier model such as a 99 outback sport. is it true you need all the diffs and driveshafts as well. Also, id assume you should probably upgrade your brakes and maybe even suspension to handle that extra power. Also, does anyone know where i can find a wiring diagram for an 02 wrx and a 99 outbakc sport? Thanks alot, Eric.

I've had a CEL on for a couple weeks and went into autozone to get the error codes pulled and they said it was a catalytic converter (bank a i think, the dude said it was probably the front one if there are 2 cats, which there are) I priced a front cat for a 2.2 non-california emissions front cat at like $650 of the lancaster subaru website. Is there any other place i can get a cat without compromising my life savings? Im sure i can do it myself, i've done plenty of catback exhausts but if i had to pay for the part and the labor it would be a killer.

Hi, i was thinking of putting some foglights on my 99 Outback sport and i wanted a OEM dash switch to occupy one of the blank spaces next to the alarm and cruise control button for a stock look as opposed the red switch that comes with some of the kits. Is there anywhere i can order one of these offline? i havent searched the boneyards yet, but late model subarus are sometimes difficult to come by in these parts. Thanks alot, Eric.

i ordered a roof-rack from them, and after they sent me the wrong clamps and i called them back they said "sorry, our bad, well send you the right ones" about 4 days later i get an email saying "oh, just send the wrong ones back or else were going to charge you for another set of clamps." i called back and they said that even though the page i ordered from said outback that i should have ordered from Impreza because the outback clamps wont fit my outback sport. I called up and talked to TRISH for about a half hour and they pretty much said it was my problem and that if i didnt want to send them back they would just charge me twice. So, i sent them back... not one of my favorite companies to do business with anymore.

i just got back from the Pomona car show and i saw a guy driving around a little subie van. It said 68 maybe on the for-sale sign but i think he wanted like 10 G's for it. Anyone got one of these little 2 -cyl vans? it looked like a little vw westfalia and was painted all crazy. Anyone else at pomona see this little toy car. There was also a dude driving around an awesome little honda 600cc chopped up go-kart looking thing. He said it had a motorcycle engine in it. bitchin' little rides.

go to your local stereo shop and buy a wire harness and faceplate kit you might not need it if the factory radio is the same size as aftermarket. sometimes there is a little storage area underneth the radio in which case you should be able to just screw it into the existing mounting hardware. The wire harness plugs into your factory harness and is color coded so you just connect all the aftermarket wires to the harness and you should be good to go. As for the electric antennae, you shouldnt have any problems, just follow the instructions included with your aftermarket radio. Hope this helped...
