  1. Sooooo, Trucks are also like opinions. Everyone's got a farvorite! moral of the story? If it's well maintained, in the power range you want, buy the name brand of your choice.
  2. hahaha, yeah that is the down side! I've never really had the amount of money I'd have liked to throw at this hobby, I've been shooting with the same Olympus OM-1 I've had since High School that I got at a camera swap. Maybe now I can afford to see if a Leica is worth all the hype! Will-
  3. Man, those look like they are in great shape! I don't know why, but I like that two-tone paint job. I feel like I should hate it 'cause I usually don't like "stripe" type stuff, but that looks really good. It fits the era of the vehicle really well for some reason. The color choices help. I know nothing about what you Scots got in the way of factory options, is that a factory paint job? And, wow, now that's a topper! Can't wait to see the final product. Will-
  4. Dang! Should've guessed that by the lack of a real frame
  5. If you've got the hundred bucks, my vote is for the turbo wagon. You could swap the necessaries out of the '87 and have a fuel injected ride with sweet wheels.
  6. Welcome to the board! Looks like a fun project. What kind of truck is it? Will-
  7. I took the liberty of editing your post just a bit,
  8. No way, SLR's are the way to go. No crashing hard drives to take everything out, and best of all, all the SLR stuff is getting really cheap on feebay because everyone wants digital. Means I can finally afford to build the darkroom I've always wanted:banana:
  9. +1 If lay-off's are a possibility don't get a loan. Sounds like you've got some offers of help
  10. How about disconnecting the battery overnight, maybe that will take it out of valet mode? Good luck! I hate alarms...
  11. There is nothing wrong with using aluminum. Both the trans and engine parts that mate are aluminum. SJR probably uses steel 'cause he's got a source for good prices on laser cutting, which you can't do with 1/2" aluminum. The bolts that go between the engine and trans are only one part of the equation that makes up a stable situation. The engine has mounts, the trans has mounts and the remaining force is divided among those four bolts. I bet there is plenty support to spare as far as things actually breaking. Gloyale has the right of it when he pointed out the problem of using a hand tool to cut off a 12mm section of the bell housing. I bet it could be done if one were to buy a 20 dollar caliper and an aluminum grinding wheel (or 3 or 4) and do the anal retentive version of the "measure and grind" game, but I can tell you right now that's not how I'd want to spend my weekend. Then again, if you have more time then money and a bit O' the OCD, I bet you could do it. BUT, then we're all jumping ahead huh? S'ko has yet to post the pics that he promised. Maybe he's already thought this out and didn't expect this barrage of premature speculation... So how 'bout it S'ko? Pics please!
  12. Right, forgot about the kids. Except that it's only the driver's window that has this auto option and in theory if the kids are in the driver's seat they either stole the keys or the keys are with the responsible adult and there is no window movement of any kind. Well in any case, my kids don't have any thumbs (they do drool a lot and are covered in hair) so that is not a concern for me. So how 'bout it? Any ideas?
  13. '96 OBW OK, so I've been a die-hard manual window guy since forever. This car is the first I've ever owned with electric windows. I've always been against them because of not being able to get them down without the key. I still don't like that, but I know I could get around it if I really wanted to. But truth is, I'm not a teenager anymore and I'm not spending my weekends doing illicit things with girls, alcohol, or drugs that require window operation in a "no key" environment. Furthermore, I really kind of like the feature where the window runs down on auto with the "full click" of the switch. This comes in really handy when I pull in to the parking garage and need to juggle my coffee and my parking card. What would also be super cool is if the "auto" feature worked for the up direction as well. So my question is: How is the "auto-down" accomplished, and can it be convinced to do "auto-up" as well? Thanks!! Will-
  14. If I were dependent on this car to get around I would buy a used unit first and then repair this one. Since I have other cars I can drive (once I fix their problems!), I'll just go for it. I've taken some motorcycle gear boxes apart, but never one for a 4 wheeled vehicle so this looks like a good excuse. So since I'm changing bearings, if I change the two on the secondary shaft (or whatever it's called) that would make for all them (besides the diff.) right? Does someone sell a "kit" for seals and bearings? I tried looking at some of the online dealers and they don't list transmission components, just the whole thing. I can take a drive down there, but if someone happens to know... Thanks! Will-
  15. I've been involved with a few passenger vans in my wild and crazy youth as a touring musician. Actually I didn't do much of the touring in these vans, but all my friends were touring musicians and I was the only one the knew much about autos. One buddy had a (I think) '90 or '91 Ford E250. It was set up as an ambulance for a nursing home so it had major suspension to accommodate the wheel chair lift in back. We called that one the Jambulance. Lost the trans in Nevada someplace once which they had a shop replace. Also had a dodge 2500 also an early 90's model (I think). This one was Nirvana's tour van for a bit. Driven from DC to Seattle by Dave Grohl then sold at some point to my wife's band and driven by them for years, then later by our band. They had a tranny or two go out also if I recall. And last but not least, an '85 chevy starcraft conversion van complete with captain's chairs and a queen sized bed! I did basic tune-up stuff on them and space is a pain in the rear. I think if I were about to get into one again, I would pull the motor out and do a full reseal and tuneup to try and minimize the chance of having to be in there. I also seem to remember that the plastic and rubber parts are short lived on these vans because of the heat and lack of good airflow. Well, it's not much info, but this forum doesn't seem to get much traffic so you'll have to take what you can get! Good Luck!
  16. Alright man, lets have it. You've mentioned the H6 as being the motor to have a few times now. You've even alluded to the the gas mileage as being a plus, so what's the deal? Inquiring minds want to know. Will-
