That would suck, unlikely but It sounds like the motor, and yes it was all three times i tried it. That was plenty to make me feel queasy -
84 GL Wagon 4WD I just got finished swapping an intake manifold and a weber carb tonight, wrapped up the loose ends, etc. thinking everything looked tidy and fit. I was stoked:) Upon turning the ignition over, a sharp "ping", is all that is heard, no turning over at all. The starter engages, the accessories work, all seems grand until i try and start it. All the swappage looks to be ok, where should i look? What would cause something like that? ************ that sounded awful:-\

Any other good pics out there? Psyko, does your choke wire splice right into the existing harness? If not, how'd you power it? -
how to change lock cylinder

I don't know much about the STD's, but i've done this twice before, both on GL wagons with much success. Expose the steering column/Ignition switch area by removing the plastic pieces above and below. Remove the two tiny phillips head screws that hold the ignition switch into the left side of the column. Pull the switch from the column and set it aside for now. On the right side, remove the lock cylinder cover (reads Lock, Acc, etc.) by pushing it off with a small screwdriver. After that is removed you'll see the cylinder. Now i've had one simply pull right out, and the other i took a sturdy screwdriver and shoved it into the cylinder, as if it were a key. Destroyed the tumblers and picked the metal bits out. If you already have a new cylinder to put in, you'll notice the brass colored piece about an inch long. Stick this piece in your lock cylinder and guide it through the center hole, (which i believe is the steering wheel lock mechanism?) while lining up the ignition switch's slotted plastic piece. It may take some time to get it right, but it's not bad. Close it up, test it and tighten 'r down. Good to go. I might add, that on my '84 GL, there was a blue and yellow wire under the cover that i unplugged, now the horn button operates the hatch light and so forth, but starting with a screwdriver gets old after a while:rolleyes: There's probably a better method, but this works for me ... -

Looking for ideas on how to set up the hitachi throttle return spring on the weber carb. This has all been covered but most pictures aren't there, i need a visual:rolleyes: Thanks.

It makes a lifted wagon feel a lot more like it's lifted. Definitely a little squirly, as TheBeast stated, but i wouldn't ever go back. Too much fun.

Out of 4 EA81 vehicles i have owned, none of them have had coils in the rear. Perhaps yours was modded? Either way the rancho shocks will work.

1984 GL Wagon California Emmissions I'm swapping a weber, and i ran into something i had no idea existed. The shiny threaded hole - it had a "brass" hardline connecting to the intake manifold, via extrenal threads (like a bolt). How can i cap this off? Would i even want to? I presume so, as the prepped weber manifold i have, has the intake side of the femaile fitting filled with epoxy.

I'd swap an EA81 into it. Minimum money, maximum reliability.

It's funny how these things vary so much. My '84 with the stock hitachi carb and 27" M/T's boogies on and off-road. Can't wait to see what this Weber i have will do.
