Rear diff stub axle question.
Greenley replied to Greenley's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes Yes It is, and that's what i needed to know. I suppose a penetrating bath wouldn't hurt to try, but i think i'm gonna have to cut 'em off. I had enough torque on them to pull my wagon with the E-brake on. -
I've got this LSD sitting here with the DOJ cups frozen to the stubs. Tried everything from BFH, PB Blaster, heat, tying cable off to a tree and winching, etc. Can i remove the side covers as is, or do i need access to the E10 torx bolt to remove the stubs first?

Awesome usage of the 2x4. I now use a piece of chain link fence in conjunction with the wood. Really useful when there's no one around to pull you out.

84 Brat Ghost Fuel Problems
Greenley replied to DaGodfada's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've had the same problem for about 6 months now. I replaced everything imaginable. Two webers, jets, fuel filters, blew out the lines, plugs, rotor, wires, cap, coil, alternator, FPCU, exhaust. Probably more. Except the fuel pump, which as others will tell you, " it works or it doesn't" So i never suspected it. At my wits end, i installed a "new" fuel pump, and it runs great now, no bucking, surging, or what have you. ( i say that reluctantly, as i've been fooled by everything else thus far). However, i never had a problem @ idle, so it could be completely unrelated. Only time will tell if my problem is done for good, but it's food for thought. +1 to what Jerry DeMoss said. -

That's funny, i found a copy under the seat of my Brat when i got it. -
To add to Bill's comment above, I think it's time to require moderator approval in this forum, due to the plethora of misplaced posts. Similar to the offtopic forum. Could make it easier on those who have to move the two or three a day that get posted here. Just my two pennies.

There's a ditto of it in the JY here, come and get some parts 4WD swap and you're golden. Good score. -

What do you mean by loud/quiet side ? -
Check your plugs. Black electrodes mean you're running rich. The mixture screw shouldn;t be more than 2.5 turns out, if so check your jets. I wasn't too impressed with the weber either. I assumed it was going to be a performance upgrade, but in all reality, i would only recommend it to someone with a crapped out stock carb. I have less into my EJ swap, than a new weber conversion would cost. I'd go that route if you want any real difference.

What started as a silly idea, worked magnificently. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again and again. This garage is rock solid. Not even a creak from the weight. For everyone's insight and inspiration to give it a go, i say cheers!

I think that sounds great. Someday i'll get to doing the same. What are you using for soda blasting?

Sweet, keep the pictures comin'

I have it all setup and ready to hoist. Finding an able body to help is another story. I have two 2x6 boards spanning across five beams to spread the load. I swung on it like a chimp to test, and it is very solid. I need to adjust the tow strap shorter, as you can see there is not much room for the come-along to work. As is, i'll get the engine 6 inches up My plan is to utilize the come-alongs' lifting ability to get the engine up to the front end's level. Rest it on there, and lower it by hand to the ground. Sounds easy enough.

I use the same beefy, made in USA, $2 garage sale, six-foot length of chain that i carry when wheelin'. Right now i'm using a tow strap, come-along, and said chain supported from my garage rafter beams. You're over-thinking
-
Neat project. I saw something similar made out of an early 80's tercel hatchback, the other day. I'm not sure what your intentions are, as far as hauling, but i would seal it off about 6 inches from the wheel well. Would be a perfect size for camping stuffs, firewood, etc., without being too long.

Out here it's a lot like the PNW, as far as subies go. Although we get more snow than most areas up there. Rust free is the norm, so you don't come across truly "end of life" subarus, unless they've been totaled, or beat to crap. I personally wouldn't pay $450 for a gen 3 with fire damage. I've passed on many a clean EA82 for really cheap, but that's because they're not my thing. IMHO your offer was way low, considering you're in the rust belt. Let it marinate on the market until he drops his price, and if you're worried about it selling... then make a better offer.

So that's about 6 inches of lift then ? Self fabbed, no doubt. Only suckers like me actually buy lift kits. Whats this all about? Do you take milk or cream ?

Looks like i got the clear to go. Who am i riding with ? -
Where in the hell is this rear canister located? I've taken out every other piece of emission crap in my wagon, so i don't see how it would hurt to pull this too. Help me find it, and it's all you. FWIW, the PO used to have to smog, so it's more than likely functional. As well as Cali spec. I can send it with the signal lens.
