  1. Thank you everyone for your replies. I so want my problem to be a hose with a massive leak but I'm afraid it's going to be the head gasket. I don't know whether to fix it or buy another Outback. The car actually runs very well (very smooth). Cold weather is coming soon. Do I add anti freeze and let idle to circulate or drain the water that is in it out?
  2. Severity of overheating has been gradual. No signs of moisture on engine or in tail pipe. No oil in water or water in oil. It loses a tremendous amount of coolant within 3 miles. When idling the temperature gauge goes down. Guage goes up when driving. Also if I start the car and just let it idle for up to half an hour it will not overheat. The only place I see water after it overheats is near the overflow tank. Just a little. Turning the heater on doesn't cool it down but no heat is coming from the heater now. The heater worked when the problem started a couple of months ago. The car loses a lot of coolant within 2 1/2 miles. The car is obviously loosing fluid but other than a little at the top of the overflow tank can't see an obvious leak anywhere. The radiator has less than 5,000 miles on it. It also looks like there has been an overflow on the top of the radiator because stains are noticeable. Can someone please tell me what the problem might be? Thanks.
  3. All of my doors normally unlock with the key when unlocking the drivers door. The manual lock on the drivers door inside also normally lock and unlock all the doors. Normally I can also lock all the doors with the key in the drivers door lock. When I turn the key I can hear the doors trying to unlock so I assume it's not just a fuse. Thanks
  4. I'm driving a '96 Outback Legacy. The only door that will unlock with the key is the drivers side door. This includes the hatch door. From searching earlier posts it looks like I need to check the contacts for the locks behind the door panel. How hard is it to pry off the panel? And do I just use a screwdriver to pry it off? Thanks, Joan
