  1. Thanks everyone for all the help. I did get checked out, had some mild headaches but better now and all is well. The car is also good. There are 2 scratches on the bumper and a little crack in the corner. Everything behind it (I am told) is fine. The body shop, insurance adjuster, and a couple of other car people I talked to talked very highly of how strong and well built Subaru's are. After this, I too am impressed. I love my Baja. I don't understand why they stopped making this one.
  2. Yes...I called the police...had about 6 police cars there before it was over. There were no witnesses that stopped. It was pretty obvious that the other car was at fault...police were very nice to me, did not question what I told them. One asked me if I smelled alcohol on the other driver. I can get the report Monday. What kind of shop should I go to to have my car checked? Never had this problem before. Should I go to a mechanic or a body shop?
  3. I have a 2003 Baja. Was stopped a traffic light and got hit. I think the other driver may have passed out because I found her slumped over the steering wheel...had her seat belt on and air bags did not deploy. However, she did hit me hard enough to knock my rear view mirror out of whack, knock my glasses off, and throw the hat I was wearing off my head and into the back seat. So, only a tiny scratch on my bumper....is there damage I should have my car checked for? Drove away ok, so there is nothing immediately obvious.
  4. 141,000 miles. Check engine light just came on. Before that on this drive...noticed an occasional sputter...like there was some interruption in fuel flow. It does seems (without actual data) that I have not been getting typical gas mileage. A friend of mine just had a similar sounding problem with her Honda CRV, and it was the oxygen sensor....and cost big bucks to replace. What are the possibilities here. If it is the oxygen sensor...what's the typical repair cost on this? Thanks.
  5. I have an 03 Baja.....I also have a steering noise...sounds tio be like a kind of scraping noise...sounds like in the steering column somewhere. Does not happen all the time...and not same level or length when it does. Thoughts?
  6. Hey....I have had my 2003 Baja about 6 months and love it. It has the hard top bed cover. What does it take to take the cover off? Just temporarily...need to haul some things. It looks like a big deal.
  7. Got my Baja....and I love it. Needs a couple of small parts like 1 fog light grill and back mud flap. Where is a good site to get these sort of things? Also, this one came with the bed cover. anyone got instructions how to take it off if I need it?
  8. It is automatic transmission. The previous owner said that everything that was recommended was done...so timing belt is not an issue for now. when was it first recommended to change...90 or 100? what is the first thing I have to worry about? I have never heard anyone as obsessive as the previous owner. A big reason I am buying this one. It has the hard and soft bed cover, and the bed extender too.
  9. I am soon to be a first time Subaru owner. I am purchasing a 2003 Baja with 110,000 miles on it. I know that is high mileage but the price is right and the car has been well maintained. It is at a dealership but I talked with the previous owner. He is a military man who drove the car 150 miles per day and seemed obsessive about the vehicle. He used synthetic oil and a speciual air filter because he found he could get an extra mile or 2 per gallon. He constantly monitored the car's performance....said when the temp was below 40 degrees, gas mileage went down about a mile. Did all the scheduled maintenance on time. So, I want to get a lot more miles out of this car. Now my question is....where can I find the recommended schedule for maintenance? Also, any recommenfdations out there from you other obsessive owners to keep this Baja on the road for years to some? Thanks.
  10. How does the single color affect reaching goods in the bed? Do the single color models have different characteristics? I have found a navy blue one I will probably buy. I agree the two tone looks pretty sporty. But, not enough Bajas out there to have a lot of choice (unless $$ is not an issue).
