best off-road lights!!**i want pics of your car w/ lights!!!**
Hodaka Rider replied to crazy D's topic in Off Road
Yah, I read as much on their website, but it seems that no-one has actually tested both back-to-back and said how noticible the difference is. (I couldn't even find a proper review of the 140's on the 'net). On LF's AU website, it suggests the 140's for winding mountain roads, and off-road situations. Sounds like it suits my needs fine. Anyone wanna disagree/concur? -

So, again, anyone phyically compared the Lightforce 140 to the 170? I will be getting one or the other soon and, failing any conclusive argument, will default to the cheaper (or should I say least expensive). -
Here's the quickest, easiest, and probably least expensive way to turbo your car: Sell it and buy a turbo Subaru. Seriously.

Whats in YOUR heads?
Hodaka Rider replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
SWEEET! -
The ports look like a really good shape overall just the way they are, but there is a bit of restriction around the valve guide. The main bottleneck in the head itself is where the HLA bucket intrudes. That and right before the valve seat (looks like a factory machined cut there, could be smoothed out a bit.)

I'm a kinda charter HP member, but I am also on a small hiatus. I'm currently building another machine, though. Plus, there's a secret project in the works, right Zap?
-
I had been thinking of doing this for awhile. Looks like there's not a whole lot of meat in there for contouring the ports. Maybe a bit around the valve guides and under the HLA's

Loudness contours are designed for listening at low volume levels. Using the loudness settings at higher volume levels will cause the forementioned distortion. (most stereo manuals tell you this - or at least the facty that the loudness setting is designed to enhance sound at low volume levels). I'm sorry I don't have anything to add on the factory subwoofer issue, though.

As cool as that is, the sound of a Lambo Gallardo or Murcielago with a Tubi exhaust beats every Subaru sound I've ever heard. http://www.q8speed.com/video/gallardoq8.wmv In person, it sounds kind or like ripping metal. Nothing short of awesome! http://www.zrauto.ca/zr_player.cfm?videoID=4 - Most of that clip was filmed within an hour of where I live

Turn your bass and treble controls to 0, then turn up the volume. Really, I have never heard a stereo where turning up the bass or treble really improved the sound at all. It will, however, increase distortion. Distortion is what kills speakers. Do you really want to kill your new OE speakers? Thought not. Also, speakers need a certain number of hours to break in. After this break in period, the bass will usually increase, and the speakers will sound less harsh.

Thanks Scott. I ordered yesterday, they're trying to get them here quicker. Part of it is pride, I want the car to look right (yes, I will be wheeling it, too) because: a) it'll be the first lifted Soob around and; I'm putting my business name on the side. I would've snagged the used ones from you a couple weeks ago if i knew. I'm about 8-9 hours of driving from where you are, though.

29 inch tires ? od ?
Hodaka Rider replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, hopefully I'll find out soon. Just placed my order for 27/9.50/15 SSR's. -

Possible, I guess my point to him was just that that's how many of these tires are marked, whether it's on the tire, or just on a piece of paper. Wait, do you mean they just say "9.50/15" or something like that on the sidewall of, say, a swamper SSR? -

Because the LT (light truck) tires that many people are using for these applications are marked in inches on the sidewall. It's an American thing, I guess. Americans (civilians, anyways) are some of the last people in the world to hold onto measuring things in inches, feet, miles, etc. Most other countries have switched to the metric system long ago, thus most tires are marked using metric measurements. Interesting enough, though: the wheel (or rim, as some people call it) is still measured in inches in most countries. Weird. -
Grrrr. I'm still rockin' stock. I tried to order 27 x 9.50 SSR's today, but there are NONE in Canada! They're telling me 8 weeks delivery!!!! Only alternatives are: a) order from the states and pay through the nose for shipping. 2) find a different tire. I've looked around at a LOT of tires today, and the only ones that are available to me are either acceptable tread and price- but too big; acceptable overall diameter- but not very good tread; or acceptable tread and diameter- but too narrow and too expensive.

No. But you're right, bigger does not usually mean faster spooling.

Welded Rear end on a Daily driver?
Hodaka Rider replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can't believe you guys missed this. No, it's not like locking the hubs on a Jeep. Pulling your 4WD lever up a notch (or pushing the 4WD button on a Loyale) is the same as locking the hubs on a Jeep and putting the Jeep transfer case into 4-Hi. No welding or LSD required to equal the hub locking. Pop her into 4WD, and you're good to go - with good winter tires. If you're mostly on-road and want a little more positive traction, hunt down an LSD and drop it in. If you're mostly off-road, weld 'er up. -
Yup. Gets a lot of attention evry time it's come up in the last year or two.

Anyone using Lightforce 140's? -
New with a lot of questions!
Hodaka Rider replied to parksoffroad.com's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I remember that picture! I found your site a while back when I was looking for a compressor (got a Tornado III for a good price). Anyways, decent traction tires are difficult to find in 13". Look for Peugeot 505 wheels in 14" or 15", or modify hubs or wheels so you can use 6-bolt Toyota wheels (or something else same bolt circle). Engine can be cranked for a bit with the main coil wire removed and plugs out to get the oil circulating. Go ahead and get a lift for it, and a 5spd dual range tranny, then take it back to frame twister and see what it'll reallt do! -
Rear disc brakes for a Gen-1?
Hodaka Rider replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I happened to stop by the day he and Jim were doing that. It was dark out by that point, and the air was fairly blue. It was WAY more work than they thought it would be at the outset, but they got it done and it worked fine! -
