  1. Started scouting trails today. Found a really long (20KM's) road I had not been on before, but it was pretty boring. Just have to wait for the high-up snow to melt some more, I guess. That's where the good stuff is.
  2. We're looking at maybe trading the Jeep on one. Any opinions or suggestions? I guess this is a phase II, right? Any caveats there? What should I check for? It's in really nice shape, Silver, 5spd, A/C, heated cloth seats, roof bars, cargo cover and liner, sunroof. And it's at the Jeep dealer which means: a) some poor fool probably traded it in on a Jeep, and; We will probably get more for the Jeep
  3. So if your fuel pressure is correct, then there is something wrong with the voltage or pulse at the injector. I don't have access to my FSM PDF's right now, but I bet there's some troubleshooting info to do with this.
  4. So, fuel press is good (did you use a gauge, and if so where?), spark is awesome, but not much fuel coming out of injector. Is the fuel spraying nicely, or dribbling/streaming? When it does run, is it nice and even, or rough?
  5. Ummm... Nice pink bike Zap. Let's hope you never have to use that;)
  6. BTW, want a factory AWD VW? My Passat Syncro is up for sale.
  7. I'm not surprised that it's easier than a quattro drive train. Those engines are long (unless you're talking about the newer 1.8t)
  8. Right. Not to get off topic or anything. Anyways, for those thinking of coming out, what kind of terrain would you like to tackle? It may end up being a 2-day event, with either a campout or just a stay in town, and out again on another excursion.
  9. Yah, I casually mentioned Subarus in our conversation and he didn't sound surprised. (mentioned Reiter's and Walker Valley - they had been in the area for last year's Detroit Locker Trail Tour) I didn't say specifically that Subarus would be involved in the trip, but thought I would try to arrange it to add a good twist to the outing. There are also a few 'Mogs in town, as well as the usuall Jeeps and Toys, etc. We could end up with a large group! We'll see what happens.
  10. BTW: Don't expect any snow;) I will either shotgun or run my Loyale (depending on when I get the D/R swapped in)
  11. I just got off the phone with the editor/owner of a Canadian 4X4 magazine (http://can4x4.com/). In the latest issue, he mentioned to a reader that he would like to come to my area this year for some exploring in the hills. So, I phoned him up and extended an invite. We talked for 15-20 min about the prospects, and he seems very interested in coming out late July/early August. I kind of left it to him, as he has a busy schedule the next few months, with runs into the states for an ARB tour, their own Off-Road Challenge in July, and shows and runs all over Western Canada, but he is pretty keen on coming up here (I'm only a 4-hr drive from him). So here's the deal: I told him it would be ideal if he could give me at least a week or two notice, so I could get a group together. Terrain around here is mostly mountains, not so much mud, some rock action, lots of moderate to difficult trails. He will most likely be in a new FJ cruiser, so we don't expect to tackle epic terrain. I may work it into a ghost town tour of the local mining areas, to give a good mix of scenery and trails. Anyone who thinks they may be interested can post here and I will keep it updated. It is not guaranteed to happen, but I'm really trying. I may see if it can be pushed to the beginning of Sept, as there is a hotrod show here the 8-9 and he is also starting a 'Rod magazine this year. (two birds with one stone) BTW: I'm in Nelson, BC. 2.5 hrs north of Spokane, WA 9 hrs NE of Seattle 7 hrs N/NW of Missoula, MT
  12. Umm, sounds to me like you need to spend that extra little bit of cash and do it the right way. OE gaskets will not hold up very long under the stresses you have planned for that engine. A properly set-up o-ringed and copper gasketed EA-82 has not been tried, and I am almost 100% positive that the o-ring part is the missing link. It works for other engines, it should work for the EA-82.
  13. Just remember: there may only be 3 mains, but it is a very short crank, and is forged. If changing the exhaust almost killed your EA-82, it had other problems from the start. It has already been proven that these engines can hold together while making lots of power if it's put together correctly and in good running order.
  14. As I noted in an earlier post (saturday, I think) try NAPA. I think they are carrying it chain-wide in Canada, but all may not have it yet.
  15. It's a pin-on badge, bought it from a local second hand store a few years back. Curious if anyone knows it's origin.
  16. If you look at the "crack" between the valve seats, you may find that it is a casting line (casting flash). Try cleaning it up with a dremel (don't hit the seats, though.
  17. I just went to Napa to order some paint, and saw that they now carry Seafoam products!!! Picked up some of the penetrating lube, we'll see how it does.
  18. You mean Hallelujah? Anyways, the first time out with my '83 I came home from the snowmobile trail minus the muffler. Didn't even realize it until home. Went back to the trail three years later and found it!!
  19. I have a thought on how to do this with my Loyale, but it'll have to wait until my lift is in (1/2 done now), my Passat is sold (soon, hopefully), my Swampers are on, and I get my D/R here ready to put in.
  20. What will NOT work is the whole Imp. clutch. What WILL work is the disk. Look up part numbers on clutch sites and you will find that the same numbers are listed for the EA 4wd and the EJ cars (most) - but usually the really sticky versions are only listed for EJ's. No reason why they can't be used on an EA, but the stock hp doesn't require it!!
  21. Search for rguyver on the board here (has posted a few times lately). He's in Kelowna area and has just done a WRX EJ into a Brat. I'm sure he could help you out with particulars, and maybe even come by and lend a hand.
