This is my nieghbors car, i put an air compressor in for him, he bought it used. it looked dried up no oil came out of it, i thought he bought a cheap rebuilt one but no, so i got him to buy the ester oil for it which is the universal a/c oil where as pag is to be matched to manufacture. anyways i read the book, said to put in as much oil as you get out of the old so 2oz came out, but i knew there was more, added 3oz+. reinstalled all bolts made sure the Orings were still present, tightened everything down good. went to store got a recharge kit. started car turn on air, added can of refrig it was fine. blew cold and no drama. still low so i added 2nd can. once it was half done taking the 2nd can it started squeling real bad and looked like this clutch was locking up too. i tightened all belts right. no more than 1in per 12in gap. looked at belt for a/c and it looked worse than when i seen it last so i think the belts bad now too. there is red dust coming from this compressor by the clutches just like the original. he texted me today, no air and it squels worse. any ideas?

boxerbob replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah i was doing it only a few months ago. it sucks. wondered why the MPG was only 20 and i couldn't keep up with traffic . could still top out at 92mph . -

well your already tearing the motor out to rebuild or replace so you kinda need to weather you leave it in or not.

yeah but about every SVX in the world needs even a new auto by 100k miles and keeps eating them faster from there. there was a trick to the 5spd thing the guy who did the first one told me. he lives in somerset,ky and has i think 5 subies now. had 2 svx a couple years ago both 5spd swapped. he also did a 3.3 into his XT6. i say f*** it. 6spd or bust!

i was to but i'm a power junkie and i knew it wouldn't stay that way. once you start any mods, might as well anticipate more big or small.

pretty funny, shouldn't have a problem finding a crossmember now!
-
thats pretty sweet. some of my buddy's have a 240 made into a truck. to save cost on steel they used a hood that was dented up from when he first had it. its goofy but sweet. small time track guys and drifting nuts.

hell yeah, get it out alive!!!!!

ever find one? i got all mine. i highly doubt it will fit an EA body. i have both DP's too which i think you said you were looking for.just one has no heatshield now.

i have the same type of motor in my garage. wanted to do the factory twins but gave up and figured if i went single i could tune it how i like it and not have to worry about the VOD or hooking up the black box of doom (scared the crap outta my wiring guys). sadly i had already notched my crossmember for the twin ups. thinking on just getting custom mounts and stuff too. i'm already looking at a Stinger 4424 for an ECU. Goodluck with your swap!

GT30 would be a good lightly worked 2.0l in my opinion. my dude don had a 04 wagon pushing over 300whp on a mustang dyno with just a deadbolt TD05 18g fully done out though. it pulled like a fieght train and i'm sure its still going hard. he had 90k when i rode in it, stock internal ej205. its been 2yr or more since then though. i want a GT30R myself for my EJ20R but money is an object for a man with a 8mth old kid and a house. i'm going to have my T4 compressor put on my T3 so it has tons of mid range. do my own rotating....

ok, i will do when i'm ready to order! appreciate it NC

ok is the ground control kits a set of four? will they setup my rears for 5in or will i need to order my own springs and sleeves for the rear? or just springs?
-
thanks numbchux, ill check on this stuff soon! i'm used to mixing stuff up now.

ok, well i went down to VA and picked these XT6 5lugs up from another member. i want the car to sit lower with a good front/rear stiffness. not harsh but good. what struts/shock are my best choice? i have read of you guys messing with miata stuff. any coilovers that can be cheaply used?
-
personally i think the AWD setup is more used then said. when ever it rains around here which can be often even if not bad, its safer. i can drive like its dry out, snow its there, and i'm sorry but traction control and all that junk doesn't work good enough, its not there when it starts like the 4wd grip. sometimes it makes it worse. it would have to read every 1/1000sec or better in order to acheive what is needed to be done. it doesn't take even a blink of an eye to lose control.
