No heat, sounds like the thermostat has been gutted, a common temporary solution to head gasket overheating, same with the wrong radiator cap. Only way of telling if the engine is any good is to pull it and have the heads and block checked for warping. I had the same problem when I bought my 97 Obw, engine ran fine, but had a blown head gasket. I just dropped a 2.2 in and was done with it..

Well after spending the Xmas Holiday week in the hospital with my 78 year old mother, I finally got around today to remove the starter and clean the contacts. So far so good, as it is starting without problems. However the contacts and plunger were very worn and pitted. I found this web site:http://www.nationsautoelectric.com/densoparts.html, I think I will order the repair kit that includes the plunger.

I have tried AZ and Napa, no luck. I'm going have to take it out of the car and clean it. I have the 01 OBW VDC to drive, but don't have snow tires on it, like I do the 97. It gets a little worrisome when you have to turn the key on/off 20 times before it starts. Isn't contacts and brushes the same?, or am I missing something.

My neighbor has a 944S, I have a E30 BMW M3, we both have the same mechanic, and has driven them both. The mechanic says my BMW has more power than the Porsche and in more refined. The 924, which is what the 944 is based on, was suppose to be an Audi, and was forced to become a Porsche by management.

It wasnt on the alternator or its shield, just the compressor sheild. -
Is there any other way? - Heater Core clogged
skibumm replied to Deener's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I add a little water to help it flow when I add the drano, I would only allow it to work for a minute or two and then start flushing, might have to do it twice if its not flowing much from the other end from the frist treatment. -

Drano! make sure you disconnect both heater hoses from the engine. Use a small funnel, once water starts flowing freely, flush with lots of water with baking soda in it to nutralize the acid. Have done this many a times with older cars..... -
If it was, it probably was already replaced by Subaru before I bought the car, there was only 2 outstanding recalls on the car when I bought it. It has 200k on it now, if that was the orginal, which I doubt, it did very good. yep, its too late, the core is gone anyhow. I have a good rebuilder here, if he is still in business, havent taken anything to him for a several years. I have owned 5 BMWs over 20 years and have never replaced an Alt. in any of them.

I'm wondering if I should try and pickup a used alt and keep in the car. will be driving it allot this winter to Snowshoe WV, and there isn't anything worse than to have to have a car towed from atop a cold mountain to a garage 50 miles away or worse not making it up the mountain, I know, I have had to do both before........

I went to the mall today, noticed both the battery and brake light on. Stopped at the bank and when i got back in the car barely started, then the ABS light came on and the tachometer quit working. Was able to drive a short distance to Auto Zone. They put their meter on it and showed a bad alternator, even though the battery was only showing 4% charge. Amazed me that with that low a battery level they were able to tell it was the alt. Anyhow, I had to end up buying the Duralast reman alt. for $153. They loaned me a set of socket wrenches and i changed it in the parking lot. Car seems to be driving working fine now. Was just wondering how good the Duralast Alt is? has anyone had trouble with them? Also about 2 months ago I had a check engine light related to the #2 cly misfire. It only misfired once at startup, and has never done it since. Could the bad alt have caused this? I have also had trouble starting the car on damp days, I assumed it was bad contacts in the starter, but now wonder if that too was alt related, guess time will tell if the starter still acts up.

On my 97 OBW, I used Wagner Thermoquiet Pads from Rock auto and cheap rotors from Advance Auto Parts. One problem I have with Rock auto is the shipping cost, they want to ship multiple items from different location charging your double shipping. Also look on Amazon, I was there looking today for rotors for my 01 VDC. they ship free on select items.

When I had my 01 OBW H6 VDC over at the Subaru dealer in Wheeling to order a couple of minor parts for it in June. I got to talking to the mechanic, I asked him how often does the H6 HGs fail, He told me he has done one HG job on the H6, which in his own opinion was not bad, just upper management was trying to satisfy a customer. He also mentioned they do 3-4 EJ25 HG jobs per WEEK!, but I too didn't ask if they were newer 05+ model years, at any rate 3-4 HG's jobs seem very high for a small market dealer. -
I need new front rotors and pads on my 97 OBW, before I start, does the axle nut need to be removed to remove the rotor disk? Also, after looking at Rockautos website I see there are various sizes of rotors for a 15" wheel. 10-15/64", 10-7/8", 10.895" and so forth. How do I know which one I need for my car? I do have the dual pistons but which rotors to buy?

Im not the original owner, yes, I guess step 7 works. As I was able today to twice get the horn to stop buy trying to start the car three times in Walmarts parking lot. I would like to just shut the alarm system off till I can get another remote fob and not leave the car unlock, as im not going though this everytime I get in the car.
