Pics from the Colorado Old School Meet!
Caboobaroo replied to DrKrazy's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Oh if we have one, I'll be there. I'm planning on moving back to the PNW after almost 3 years of being here in Wyoming... I miss the shows! -
Just like the title states. Would a catback exhaust from an EA82T car bolt to the y-pipe of a NA EA82? I got a better flowing EA82T catback exhaust to replace the exhaust on my new coupe.

well my RX is pretty beat which is why I'm scrapping it for my newest 3-door;) Much cleaner body with no rust a couple small dings in it. Gonna paint my bodykit flat black and mount it to the car. So my coupe will be all pretty:D -
So I've been talking about this EA82 coupe for a little while. Finally got it to my house this evening and started looking it over. It a FWD 3AT, SPFI EA82 '87 GL 3-door. Has A/C, P/S, CC, 4 newish Les Schwab studded snow tires on Subaru rims, a set of brand new '87 factory service manuals and a Haynes manualas well! All for $100:headbang: Noticed I have to fix a couple small items already. The switches in the dash for the rear defrost and the CC are hanging from the dash so I gotta pull the trim panel off and start poking around to see why it is like this. Everything else looks to be in great shape. Back seat isn't torn or beaten at all from the sun. Just doesn't start and from the way it tries to start, sounds to me like a broken passenger side timing belt. I'll have to get it going tomorrow, and take some pics of it as well. Just too dark and too cold out right now to do anything but look at it:brow: Pics are here: http://rides.webshots.com/album/555167621jgSQVh

The time has come... bad RX
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, I got this tranny from a board member in Washington. So it won't be leaving me for awhile. There's quite a few up in your area, just gotta do some hounding for them. -

yes it is a d/r tranny but no, no one can have it. Its going into my new coupe since its a 2wd auto. There will be major swappage when my tranny takes a poo poo:clap: -
Time for a road trip Bill?

Psh, I'd rather sell everything I own before I sold my Camaros. ONe was my first car that I bought and the other one, well, its a bit high on the value part, more so then the RX. Nope, no suspension. I don't have anything from it originally but my 5-lug conversion stuff is staying here. You can have the body but I'm taking what I want/need first. You can't beat for free. I just need the shell gone once I get my stuff from it. I'll be taking basically anything I might use for my new coupe or for spares, like the tailights. -

I'm not saying the rust is bad at all. After doing a resto on a Mustang at work with some small rust issues, I'm not in the mood to deal with it. I'll see if I can hold onto the body but the doors are already sold off of it. My landlord is crawling up my backside right now over "too many cars" -
If you are planning on doing a 5-lug conversion, you NEED some parts from an XT6. For the front, you'll need the control arms and the tie rod ends, the rear, you'll need the rotor, hub, caliper and backing plate. Those are the needed parts for ANY 5-lug conversion to be bolted into an EA82 vehicle. Then you can use the knuckles, front brakes, calipers, and struts from the Legacy. You can either swap tophats on the struts to make them bolt in or oval the holes in the strut tower to accommidate the wider Legacy tophat. Remember, going with the Legacy parts in the front, you lose your ebrake. Also, you'll need to make some axles to work. You'll need the 23 spline DOJs with the Legacy CV stub.

The time has come... bad RX

bodywise, the 2wd auto coupe is in mint condition, I mean I haven't seen hardly an EA82s in this kind of condition, period. The RX has some bodydamage, dings, dents, 3 different colors, blown engine and a bit of rust in the rear wheel arches and a couple spots on the driver side A-pillar. -

Nope, I'm downsizing and I can end up making this coupe a nice car. This is why I said I would wait for the tranny to have some issues before I went ahead and did the 5-speed conversion and 5-lug conversion. Until then, it'll be a FWD auto. That and this is a much cleaner car then my RX would be, even after sinking $10,000 into it. I'm already at $8,000 into it. Brat is going as well as the RX. -
Yeah, I know, I've been saying this for awhile now but my RX is going back to the h3ll is came from. I have gotten myself another 3-door in mint shape and with the RX having a blown engine and lots of problems, its time to part ways with it. I have decided to scrap the RX in favor of the new found coupe. I'm going to be swapping my 5-lug and 5-speed into it eventually but for now, I'll pull off anything of value of the car and send it away. The new coupe is a much better platform to start with, that and it runs and drives;). The plans I have decided to do with the coupe are what I should have done to the RX in the beginning. It's going to stay a SPFI EA82 and an auto until I start having problems with it. Then, if the tranny starts acting funny, I'll swap my rear suspension and brakes from the RX, swap the tranny, clutch and the various pieces to go with it. Then, swap the front crossmember to finish the 5-lug in the front when I swap the rear. So after this point, it'll be a manual, FT4wd, rear LSD, stage 2 clutch, full 5-lug conversion, and install the bodykit. Then, after I move to Washington, I plan on doing an EJ20G swap into it and call it a day. So its sad to see the RX leave but I figure with the silver coupe, I'll be much better off. What do you guys think?

EA82 Intercooler....help please
Caboobaroo replied to EA82DM8's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup, the y-pipe which goes on the to inlets on the back, connect from the outlet of the turbo. The large diameter outlet on the front of the intercooler goes to the throttle body. Its very simple, just doing the plumbing isn't exactly easy per say. -
another soob gone......
Caboobaroo replied to Subaru_dude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
aww man that sucks! Luckily, my RX hasn't been on the road much so no chance it can get wrecked unless someone comes rallyin down my alleyway and rearends it. I know where there's a good 3-door in town for $300 bucks. You could drive it home and swap your 4wd stuff into it cause its a 2wd automatic, just like the one I just got. -
EA-82T Boosting question
Caboobaroo replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm running '83 Nissan 280ZX turbo injectors in my RX. I never ran lean while running 12psi of boost. Its actually closer to rich when I was driving it normally but unfortunatly for me, I blew the rings out of the SPFI shortblock I have in there. Oh well, time for a new engine, again:rolleyes: -
you can use axles from an EA81 as well. They're a half an inch longer then the EA71 axles so they will work for a gen 1, just not gen 1 axles in a gen 2.

EA-82T Boosting question
Caboobaroo replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
turn the boost back down for now. First thing to do, is research what kind of fuel system you want. There's a couple people here running a MegaSquirt kit, some have added the Electronic Distributorless Ignition System (EDIS) as well. Others have put a piggyback on the stock ECU to help comtrol it. Remember, you need larger injectors, adjusable fuel pressure regulator, higher flowing fuel pump along with your fuel managemtn setup. Then, turn up the boost but I would also recommend getting a wideband O2 sensor, like an Innovative LM-1 to watch closely your a/f ratios. -
EA82 Intercooler....help please
Caboobaroo replied to EA82DM8's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you don't need a BOV/BPV with any turbocharged car, thats BS. Stock, our EA82Ts never came with a BOV because they don't run enough boost stock, to have any major life threatening effects. A BOV/BPV does one thing. When you take your foot off the gas to shift gears, after getting into it, it prevents the pressure from the turbo from slamming into the butterfly in the throttle body. It helps when running higher boost so it doesn't grenade the throttle body. On 7psi, or even 10psi, its not needed but it is a good idea, especially if you drive like a wild man and decide to crank the boost up. I have seen people make block off plates for WRX intercoolers so they don't run a BOV/BPV. -
Check this problem out!

Wanna build me an engine like that? My RX just toasted the rings... yay:rolleyes: -
What are we saving you from anyways?:-p

86 Turbo RX Sedan Questions! Timing, body, ect
Caboobaroo replied to Prospeeder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
in snow and mud, you can use the lo range since its kidna like a truck, where on pavement, it binds the transfer case. I would use it in snow but remember, when its in 4wd, the rear end will feel like it wants to push the back end a little so be careful. I almost had an accident last winter coming down a hill on ice in 4wd. Started to push the car and made it want to swing back and forth. -

Caboobaroo replied to Prospeeder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nope, no intercooler or BOV/BPV of any sort. Put those two items in and it'll be better for the car.
