  1. And I'm the USMB drunken apprentice, thats my job to post after having beer! Oh and congrats on the inspection. Glad I don't have any of that crap here, not even road salting really. They use more like lava rock for traction but in some counties, they do use salt every now and then, if its really bad.
  2. Man, you gotta road trip out here and get some parts! I'm getting an EA82 turbowagon in for parts this week and could help you rebuild that other coupe:D Or bring it down here to my shop and we can get started on it;)
  3. Welcome to the wonderful world of Subaru RX owners. Your turbo, if stock, can produce about 15psi before it maxes out. I have seen 25psi run through it but you can imagine how badly this little turbo is struggling. Second, you'll crack a head before you crack a block, unless you get a rod knock of course. They like to crack normally in between the valve seats but that is fairly common and is fine unless the crack gets big. Also, they like to crack a water passage into the exhaust as well, which is also a faily common problem. It'll still run fine but will eat coolant bad. Also, blowing headgaskets is another major problem. Have you done any modifications like bolt on performance? There are a handful of us runnin a TD04 from a WRX, with a WRX top mount intercooler (or front mount like subyrally, rallyruss and gravelRX), plus a lot of other things like exhaust, intakes, cams, suspension conversions and the sort. Good luck with your car!
  4. For the engine, you have front and rear crank main seals oil pan gasket EA82 - camshaft seals valve cover gaskets and bolt washer grommets tranny: front axle seals drain plug rear output shaft if 4wd if automatic, pan gasket
  5. If you remove the turbo, you will save yourself many headaches and busted knuckles. I did one with the turbo on the car still and it took forever!
  6. you'll need to convert it from R-12 to R134A which they make a kit to do so with. Last one I got was roughly 70 bucks but that was about a year ago, maybe longer so the price might have dropped. Then you can get your AC recharged at a local shop for anywhere from 50-100 bucks.
  7. best way to get it to TDC. Pull the number 1 sparkplug and thread it back in two threads or so, enough for air to escape past it. Then take a socket and ratchet (I use a 7/8" socket with a 1/2" ratchet) and turn the engine over. You will hear the air escaping from the #1 cylinder. When the sound of the air stops, look for timing marks on the flywheel because they will be right there. If you see no signs of timing marks in the general area on the flywheel, turn the engine over again. I like to lean over the engine with my face down by the timing hole in the bellhousing while turning it over. Some people have other ways of doing it but thats the way I always seem to do it myself. You can also pull the #1 sparkplug totally out and put your finger over the hole to feel for compression.
  8. I can source up a few sets as well. I curently have 3 sets in my shop and can get about a half dozen more or so. I'm still very interested in a set too since i was one who wanted a set way back when you started making them;)
  9. Yes, there is supposed to be a ball in there. Its a pressure relief valve and yes, it will mess stuff up if its not in there.
  10. ACTUALLY Jeff, diesels only product soot which is what the black smoke from the exhaust is. Diesels are much cleaner engines then gasoline engines are. Also, quit hijacking my thread!:-p This is my thread to hijack:lol:
  11. and everyone forgot me.... Be forewarned that it is not cheap to mod these cars. I have roughly $7k into mine and it includes: WRX TD04 WRX TMIC stage 2 clutch Megan Racing downpipe custom cold air intake spyder intake from a '88 XT full 5-lug conversion lots of electronics like GReddy EBC, TT, Autometer Sport Comp gauges STi hoodscoop Delta 260 cams AFPR Nissan 280ZX turbo injectors plus a lot more then I can remember
  12. LUVMYBRAT has an awesome running gen 2 turbo Brat but infortunatly, due to major rust issues, will have to be put down. The heart is going into an '84 t-coupe in silver while the tranny might make its way into his maroon '84 t-coupe. More work for me... yay. Yes, if it is in good condition, see about getting it because even in a slightly fixed up condition, they'll still fetch quite a bit of money:D
  13. I have one of those from a gen 1 tranny. I think its at my parent's house in Oregon though...
  14. yeah almost as lazy as I am:-p Don't make me drive out there and make you:grin:
  15. Quit bein a wussy and put that dang thing in:-p . If you break a rear axle, I will send one to you free of charge. I only got like 3 of them laying around and I don't even have an EA81!
  16. My dad told me earlier on the phone, which is when he told me about it, that it runs real nice, shifts smooth, and he said he actually liked it! The main reason he bought it though, was because my younger sister is finally getting her license and learning how to drive. She's too short to drive my '88 Camaro which has a v6 in it (thank god) so my dad I guessed thought this was the perfect car for her. Plus she likes the color and the way it looks. Once I move back to Washington, I might have to convince her to make to 4wd and go out wheelin it a bit:headbang: Since I'm gonna be getting a EA81 myself to lift and wheel:clap:
  17. Rob, the pic that he put up was of the EA81 wagon he also found as well.
  18. but he just bought an almost mint '87 GL EA81 hatchback for $900! Its the tan color with the redish tint to it, has an EA81, FWD 5-speed, with only 84,000 miles on it! Has a scratch down the driver side with a small dent as well but he says it runs like a champ! My dad of all people, bought a Subaru... Way to go! Now if he'd only use the internet, he might come on here and see what crazy things we do to them, hehe:headbang:
  19. Yes, that would be the one and yes, it is in a $18,000 condition right now. Actually, value of the car as it sits is $18,883 according to the dealership a couple years ago. Fully restored.... upwards of $45,000:eek:
  20. Umm no, thats just plain wrong in so many ways. One of my Camaros is worth upwards of $18,000 so there's no mullet driving in it.
  21. My '78 Brat has a similar compartment in the dash as the EA82 and thats where I hid the switch for my stobe lights in the corner lights...
  22. nope but it did have a open 3.90 that posied every time I took off:D Made it a little hard to drive in a straight line when the back end was facing a different direction:grin:
