Heh, I can put Impreza ones up front in my RX but I also spend a little over $700 for my 5-lug conversion. Nonetheless, rear ones would be great!

Not Turning Over
yeah that wire is the ignition wire on our cars. Mine is now hooked up to a pushbutton on my dash but its a little harder to get it started seeing I wired it a special way. Sounds like he needs to adjust the clutch cable a bit.

speaker size
nope not all EA82s have the same size speakers up front. Wagons/sedans and I think some 3-doors have 5 1/4" whereas like my '89 RX, has 6 1/2"

Steering Quickner..RALLY CAR BUILDERS! Anyone ever Installed one!?
I know XSNRG put an XT6 steering rack into one of his rally RXs and he said the steering ratio was much quicker vs. the stock EA82 powersteering rack. He did a write up on it in a post but you'll have to searchf or that one cause he did it about a year ago.

ok well here's the link to the offsite pics for those of you curious about my interior. The A-pillar pod I used is from a '02 WRX and I had to modify the bottom and top a bit with a hacksaw to get it to fit but after a little bit of sanding and filing, it looks like it coulda come from Autometer this way. got your PM and replied. I'm with all the guys here. Basically if you can delete the MAF and make it into a plug and play setup OR include instructions on how to butcher the stock harness, I'd be all game!

I don't think the canadians version of the EA82 had such a marking on it. I could be wrong though. Pimp nonetheless!

Help! My perfect dash is cracking
invest in a thing of Vaseline. Then put your car out of the sun and rub the Vaseline into the dash but leave a pretty thick layer of it on there. Let it be for a couple days and rub it off. It'll soften up the vinal which will prevent it from cracking.

your best bet would be to get another turbo engine back together for it and swap it in since in '87 1/2, the turbo XTs had a knock sensor, along with a few other things like boost controller and so on. There's a few guys in your neighborhood that might be able to help you out and some people oin here have done the swap from a turbo engine to a NA engine, just takes some time to do a search.

I think my cam timing is off on one side
ok for some reason, I was thinking 12 so ok, I'll try 20 then. But even after moving the disty quite a bit in either direction, it got better a little bit but still seems sluggish and just bah feeling. Seems like under load, it doesn't want to move very easily and doesn't want to get up into a higher RPM either. With no load, it seems to rev pretty easily but still seems a bit sluggish sounding. Also, she feels like she has this major drag somewhere but I cannot figure out what it is. Yes, I need to get an alignment but its not at the top of my "To Do" list, more like getting it registered and a set of plates on it. So thats where I'm at, I'll have to give it a shot on Wednseday since thats my next day off. My neighbors gave me some weird looks when I pulled it outta the shop and drove it around the block;) mmm 3" downpipe with a TD04 on it, SEXY!

I think my cam timing is off on one side
So my RX runs, YAY! Unfortunatly, she's not running very good. I dunno if if because of a vacuum leak that I can't find or the timing. So with a light, she's right on 12*BTDC. She still runs really rough and has no power. Doesn't want to idle very well either. I'm thinking I have a cam (more like the passenger side cam) off one tooth. Does this sound like it could be the problem?

my RX is going to be like 60 bucks for the whole shibang when I go down to get it registered. Plates, tags, and registration where in Oregon, its almost 300 bucks now I think.

yeah mtsfabman is his board name. That was one bad@$$ XT6 at WCSS6.... just incredible... The only problem I could see with it is with the nose being too long like Turbone mentioned, it also has some pretty crappy approach angles.

well from what I understand, besides trying to keep the coolant temp down, you also need to keep the oil temp down which will also help keep the temp of the engine down overall. I got a nice sized oil cooler but I don't have the sandwich for it yet. Hopefully, I can get one and start doing some testing on the engine I currently have. Since my RX finally runs now:banana:

JDM wiring harness is different - can i splice?
derr derr derr....I feel stupid. Ok anyways, I've had both a NA spyder harness and a turbo nonspyder harness apart and they seem to be the same but the spyder harness didn't have the knock sensor that I needed so I had to wire it in. Other then that and the fact that the TPS is a 4 pin connector on the spyder vs. a 3 pin on the nonspyder, and that the sensors are in different locations, they seem to be the same overall so I don't see why the JDM harness would be really any different. My spyder harness plugged right into my '89 RX harness and the only thing I had to do was pull the pins out of the old harness connector for the knock sensor, figure out which holes they went in on the spyder harness and the plugged them in. I hope it works though:rolleyes:

Price of 86' brat
plus, there's a few board members here in Laramie/Cheyenne that have lots of parts for these cars like LUVMYBRAT. He only has 2 gen 2 Brats, 2 gen 2 turbo coupes and 2 gen 2 4wd wagons too. Then there's me which I only have a '89 RX and a '78 Brat now but my collection has been a lot more extensive. $500 wouldn't be bad but you need to post pics of it before people can decide if its worth the money or not. If you think its worth the money, the by all means, get it. My RX I bought from a junkyard because I thought it was worth the money. Now after a year and 6 months of having it and dumping $5000 into it, might not have really been worth it but hey, it'll be fun when she's done!
