  1. there were two models of dual range turbo trannys avalible. First off was the part time dual range 5-speed that came in the '85 and '86 RXs and some of the '85 and '86 GL-10 wagons/sedans. I know of one '85 GL-10 turbosedan from back home that had the tranny and I had a '85 GL-10 turbosedan parts car that had the tranny as well. The other dual range turbo tranny was the Full Time RX tranny. Came with either a "4 high" or a "4 low" but then you had the center diff lock switch to lock it front to rear 50/50.
  2. I actually don't know since I bought these swaybars from baccaruda awhile ago when I got my control arms. He got them for me out of a yard in Washington. My RX however started out as an automatic car (4EAT) which I have swapped to the FT 4wd d/r RX tranny. I don't see any differences between the manual EA82's and the automatics on the underneath.
  3. yeah thats the problem with mine as it sits too close to the ground even for me to wiggle under there and get it in. Unfortunatly, my ramps are still in Oregon so I guess its time to invest in a new set from Wal-Mart...
  4. Well, I did this to my JDM engine I had in my Brat. It looked sweet and stayed that way until I sold it. Oh yeah, I have been drinking again:-p :-p
  5. Well now I've run into a problem with my 5-lug conversion. Its not really having to do with the conversion itself though. I got the XT6 swaybars to upgrade from my RX swaybars and now I can't seem for the life of me, get the front one in. The original came out pretty easily and I made sure they were the same (minus diameter) but it won't bolt in for some reason. I've tried it with both wheels off the ground and one wheel of the ground and both wheels on the ground but the most i can get bolted up is one side and the two bolts that hold it to the crossmember. Whats the best way to do this? The back one seems pretty straight forward but the front is a pain in my @$$!
  6. Sounds about what's going to be happening with my gen 1 Brat. Congrats and she looks great!
  7. If you have an oven that your other doesn't normally cook in or can pick up an oven that is old and gold but still works, get some engine clearcoat, spray it on and bake it for a few minutes. Just be careful not to let it sit in there too long or else you could start to burn the paint and it'll turn brown
  8. I'll see what I can't dig outta my parts. I got EA82T parts coming outta my ears anymore..
  9. I believe the FE motors weren't as high of a compression as the GF since the FE stands for "Fuel Efficient" whereas the GF was more like a sportscar.
  10. and from what it looks like, its a wagon or am I wrong?
  11. how I found the most easiest way to ID a JDM engine was by these two things... First off, both of the JDM engines I had had an EA81 waterpump on them, not the ordinary EA71 waterpump with the external waterpassage across the top of the block for the intake. Second, they both had the "Void if Removed" buttons on the heads as well so if it was overheated, then there was no warranty. Other then that, I have found them to be both identical except for the external water passage vs the internal water passage, and if you have a rare GF engine, its a high compression engine depending on the year. I had one and you could feel the difference in the horsepower vs. the stock engine.
  12. I pushed a full size Ford with a gen 2 Brat and she isn't having too many problems. Pushed her about 5 miles or so? I think my tranny is getting toasted but it came out of a hard abused gen 2 Brat...
  13. And I got a brand new set of valve seals for it;)
  14. Well I believe that she is right. Unfortunalty, I can't be totally certain as both my wagon bumpers and Brat bumpers are in Oregon while I reside in Wyoming.
  15. I also like to get my exhaust gaskets from the dealership too. Along with headgaskets.
  16. my gen 1 Brat was in RWD all the time. It was a BLAST! Talk about the burnouts it did SHEESH.
  17. I did this in my RX since it had a 4EAT automatic in it. I was able to score a RX 5-speed tranny for it and here's the list of parts it took me to do it including some donor cars... flywheel (has to be from a 4x4 EA82 car or an XT6 for better grip) clutch (stock 4x4 EA82 clutch or a XT6 clutch to match the flywheel) tranny of course crossmember driveline (can be from ANY 4x4 EA82 car ie wagon, sedan, coupe) pedal bracket (can be from any manual EA82 car) clutch cable (needs to be from any 4x4 EA82) starter from a manual EA82 shifter linkage (from any manual 4x4 EA82) center console (from any 4x4 EA82 in the color you need) instrument cluster (from any 4x4 EA82) speedo cable (from any 4x4 EA82) and like suberdave said, the vacuum solenoids from any pushbutton or Full time (with diff lock) transmission.
  18. yes, you will need the lower control arms since they have a larger balljoint that goes into them. The XT control arms are just like a regular EA82 control arm so you will need the XT6 control arm.
  19. and I still have a few grand to dump into it before I get it to where I want to. I already have $5k into it just to give you some ideas;)
  20. At least I'm not the only one pushing other vehicles with Subarus. Yesterday, Hondasucks picked up a '75 F-150 4x4 with a 360 and it died on him heading back to his house. Needless to say, I pushed it all the way back to his house with the Brat. 4 lo + 3rd gear = 30mph@3500rpm. Best part is, she didn't give me any fuss!
  21. The car is an '89 RX, black with gold stripe. Its been an ongoing project of mine since I picked it up in November of 2004. Pics of it can be seen here: http://community.webshots.com/user/caboobaroo Oh yeah Bill, I'm thinkin of moving down to Colorado for good. Better places for me to work then Wal-Mart in Laramie. Plus, I'm gonna go back to school!
  22. SO after the whole 600 bucks for a single set of ARP headstuds, I've been looking into possibly going a different route for them. I'm thinking about redrilling the block and tapping it for maybe a standard thread pitch possibly? Also, doesn't seem like heat treating is all that hard to do but I'm going to give it a shot. All this work will be done on a toasted EA82T block so no worries about wrecking a good block or anything. Also, if I can get me a good set of headstuds, would copper headgaskets work then seeing I would be able to torque the heads on tighter?
