  1. I'm getting some help from a fellow board member right after Thanksgiving and we are trying to plan on having the RX running. I was wondering who would like to have a small meet in the Ft. Collins area sometime in the beginning of December so I can "unveil" her and give her a few miles as well... Just kinda thinking of something to do cause I want a proper maiden voyage for it...
  2. but what about all the cool Canadian people with lifted Subarus, Brian? Can't forget them...
  3. dude, just bring your rims up here to Laramie and I can get you a discount on the tires and everything. Just lemme know, its 10% off AND you can check out my RX too...
  4. well I need a set of my RX but its not lifted... I got spare lines I can measure if anyone wants to start carrying these for our cars possibly? Shady maybe?
  5. now here's a problem a lot of newer Subaru owners can run into when it comes to replacing the waterpump on an EA82. There were 2 different sizes. You have to make sure you get the right one because one is 5mm shorter then the other. the longer one (110mm IIRC) has studs that screw into the waterpump for the pulley to bolt onto which also the fan bolts to as well. The other (105mm) has it where the fan actually bolts to the pulley itself instead of the same studs used to bolt the pulley on. I know there's people that can give you a better description of it and maybe try and search for it a little, but that seems to be the most obvious case here...
  6. install the uppipe and the turbo before dropping the engine in. If not, its a pain to try and hook up all of the coolant lines and oil lines with it in the car. Then drop it in and bolt the downpipe onto the turbo.
  7. I have a chopped shifter in my RX with a B&M T-handle on it and I love the feel of it. Its awesome! The shifter has about 4" chopped from it and I also modified the linkage under the car from the tranny to the shifter and made a short throw as well.
  8. w00t, go stock 305! My '88 IROC has a 350TPI in it and 350hp to the flexplate. Yes, no replacement for displacement unless its a weakly powered v8. Then again, my RX will hopefully be running the same amount of hp as my IROC does;)
  9. I also have a WRX IC and turbo in my car. I don't know what its like compared to a stock EA82T since I haven't gotten her to fire up yet but I'm guessing it should have a dramatic change to it.
  10. *the vultures start to swarm around the hurt prey as it lays helplessly in need of attention* I see me some parts....
  11. ok I guess this is where I'll chime in at... As for the ride on the 5-lug, it is wonderful. I did it to an '87 GL turbowagon and it handles like its on rails. I've also converted my '89 RX to a full 5-lug but have yet to drive it since it is still inoperable due to engine work. On the wagon, I used all XT6 equipment. On my RX, I used XT6 brakes in the rear along with XT6 front control arms and swaybars (front/rear) but I did something different. I used parts on the front from a '95 Impreza wagon. The axles, brakes, calipers, knuckles, and struts/spring assembilies but I had to use the stock EA82 tophats for a direct bolt in. I'm thinking about using the stock Impreza tophats so I can get camber plates for them but it means modifying the strut tower to accomidate them. The main reason for the Impreza upgrade for me is because now I have a wider selection of brake upgrades that I can get for a WRX. Also I have many upgrades readily availible to me for spring/strut upgrades for the front. The rear I have yet to ind any upgrade parts for but I'm looking into modifying WRX brakes to work in the rear. When you upgrade to the Impreza/WRX front suspension and brakes, you will loose your front wheel ebrake but there are a few board members who have found a conversion to convert to a rear wheel ebrake by using Nissan 200SX calipers and some newer Impreza brake cables and ebrake handle. Unfortunaly, the USRM seems to be down but I have a full write-up on a parts list from another board member and also some pointers for doing the conversion.
  12. well not to hyjack a post or anything but does the wiring from an XT plug into lets say, my RX for the intake? Blown, when you get her on there, post some pics since I'm in need of some, lol
  13. I'd like a hoodscoop like that one on my RX. If you could, maybe find out some more about the parts the guy used on the car;)
  14. I need to find a black EA82 turbowagon to match my RX.... Heh, looks like my parent's house did when I lived there but instead of just Subarus, there's also a couple Camaros as well...
  15. yes I was converted back in the day right before WCSS5. At the show, I definatly got hooked and wanted to do some crazy stuff to a Subaru which has been a success. I have been successful at putting a full EA81 suspension and brake upgrade in the front of a '79 wagon, had a Brat that would do burnouts forever with the JDM high compression engine, and now, building a heavily modded RX. Soon there will hopefully be a modded WRX wagon sitting outside as well...
  16. and without Bill, I wouldn't have a black RX either! Lots of USMB members have helped me out going from Moosens to Skip to Northwet. Many others have helped out as well but those fellows are the ones who I can remember right now.
  17. I would use them in sets, just because of even wear from passenger side to driver side. So if you can get both sides, you should be fine. I've put different EA82 cams into othe motors without a hitch. As far as year differences, there aren't any that I know of.
  18. as for a rebuild, I would probably stay with the stock CR and OEM headgaskets for this being your first EA82T. The TD04 does require either a WRX downpipe or an aftermarket one for a WRX. I HAD a stock downpipe in mine but it was stupid looking so I went to NASIOC and picked myself up a Megan Racing bellmouth downpipe for $150 clams. Looks nice and no cat to worry about either:D Intake, I would do something custom. Custom to something that fits you. I myself modified an AEM cold air intake from a WRX for my RX. I had to lose my windshield washer bottle for it but I'm going to relocate it to another part of the engine compartment. Here are some pics of the downpipe and the intake I have: intake inside engine compartment intake inside fender Megan Racing downpipe
  19. I put a FRAM on my RX for right now but that'll change once I get it through its initial start-up procedure. Then I'll be slappin on a K&N oil filter and I'll be golden. I also use Mobil 1 10w30.
  20. Well the other day, my sister's boyfriend Adam tells me he has been looking at getting a new WRX wagon. Now he's been asking me what performance parts would work better then others and now he's asking me what all he should do to it, while keeping it a "stock sleeper" which is more his thing. He likes the '04-'05 bodystyle and the WRB color as well. Transmission? He wants it a manual, not no stinkin automatic! And the best part? He wants to convert it into an STi wagon.... Yeah I think he'll fit in somewhere in one of these boards I'm on:D He's just tired of driving his slow but almost cherry '73 Scout II which is for sale @ $4800. He's also tired of driving the Del Slow that him and my sister bought right after they moved out here. He wants something with some kick, some pizazz, something he hasn't had in awhile.... power.... Last thing he had that had that was his '69 Chevelle Malibu... So, here's a toast to another converted Subaru owner!
  21. Hey Mark, do you possibly have any pics of it or is it possible for you to get any pics? It sounds relativily easy but I just want to be sure on how everything would fit before I attempt it. As for it being different vs. the 5-lug conversion, I don't see it being a problem since the calipers are the same on an XT6 as they are on a GL-10/RX car. So if its possible on your 4-lugged RX, then it should be possible on my 5-lugged RX as well...
  22. I just got a regular black pushbutton on my dash where the stock foglight switch should be. All you'll have to do for wiring is figure out which wire on the ignition is for the starter, cut it and route it to the button and then from the button, to the starter soleniod.
  23. that would make another one with a gen 1 wagon and a gen 1 Brat:D Hopefully I'll be adding 2 more gen 1 Brats to the mix:D
