  1. I traded a '87 Justy for my '78 Brat... well since the Brat didn't have any plates on it even though he had it registered, I decided to throw a good set of plates on it from my '79... I mean my '78 wagon since they had come off of a '78 wagon. I drove it like that for about 3 months and whenever I got pulled over, I'd show the title for the '78 wagon, show him the title for the Brat and the registration and tell him/her that I had put the frame of the wagon under my Brat since the frame under the Brat was rusted to crap. Always got away;)
  2. nothin to be ashamed about, just a little bit of half-assin' it. A lot of people do it all the time but sometimes it can result in what has happened to you my friend. As for doing a build-up, my current engine in my RX which I'm about ready to finish and fire up has the following mods done to it, plus what I paid for the parts as well.. XT-T spyder intake - $165.00 shipped (this includes everything I need to bolt on and go) WRX top mount intercooler and hoodscoop - $115 shipped WRX TD04 turbo - $120 shipped Delta 260 street cams - traded parts to Will which I still need to send off but they run IIRC $120 + your core cams from Delta Megan Racing downpipe - $150 GReddy Profec II B-Spec electronic boost controller - $200 shipped GReddy Auto Turbo Timer - $13 shipped new OEM headgaskets and all the other gaskets from Advance - $150 ($75 was the headgaskets) AEM Cold Air Intake - $60 shipped (for a WRX, I also spent an extra $115 for aluminum and silicone hosing to go from the turbo to the intake. I also got a MAF adapter so I can continue running my MAF until I go MS&EDIS) Samco intercooler hose set - $45 TurboXS BOV - $60 Other then that, the engine is stock for now. The only thing you have to do in order to bolt on the TD04 to the stock EA82T uppipe is the back stud in the uppipe has to move back about a 1/2". Then weld it on and the turbo will bolt on. I would also recommend replacing all of the rubber hoses for the coolant and the oil return to be on the safe side. Also, the reason behind the spyder intake is it makes it a lot easier to plumb the intercooler in especially with the hose kit. I'm hoping to have mine back up and running within the month which will be awesome since it hasn't run since last December:( Good luck and I hope this helps a little!
  3. well next time we all decide to try and have another meet, the RX will be running MWAHAHAHAHA!!! And I will once again be driving a Subaru:banana:
  4. WJM has successfully mounted an XT6 throttle body onto a spyder intake. Yes the two TBs are different and he got it to work but I think he was still having some problems with the wiring of the TPS and something else...
  5. My first Subaru was an '83 GL hatchback that was 2wd. I couldn't find the key when I first got it so I had a panel with two toggle switches and a pushbutton instead of the ignition. I later found the key in the ashtray but it was soooo corroded from being in there with a couple salt packets so I stayed with the panel;)
  6. I came but I couldn't find anyone:( Where were y'all about 4:30 or so? I got to the park and drove around but I didn't see anyone...
  7. I might be there with Hondasucks. I have a few parts that need new homes. A bunch of stuff from gen 1 Brat and some parts from EA82/EA82T plus some other misc. parts. I do have a set of GOOD EA82T gen 1 heads as well if someone needs them...
  8. yup, parts will be coming shortly. I just got the old intake off, one rear quarter window ready to be installed, and the radiator out so I can start pulling the front end of the motor back apart to install the Delta cams and to reset the timing since I must have done it wrong somewhere. Then it will be to ordering the TWE header and getting the turbo mounted back down with new gaskets. After that, te downpipe will be installed which will be here Friday, install the new intake which should be here next week, install the IC, work the plumbing for the turbo, reconnect everything and hopefully see if I can't get her to fire up. Oh I hope, I hope I can get her to run... its only been a year in December since she went under the knife.
  9. If they're both the same speed tranny (3AT probably) then yes unless one is 2wd and one is 4wd then it won't work. If that's the case, then time for a 4wd swap as well;)
  10. So I have a complete turbo spyder intake coming to me, a new Megan catless downpipe coming, and then I have a few odd-n-ends to take care of like timing and then... We'll be pullin out of the garage under its own power! Once I get the spyder intake setup on, I can then mount my intercooler, finish the plumbing from the turbo to the IC, put some new coolant hoses in for the turbo, new gaskets for the exhaust, mount the new downpipe, reconnect my O2 sensor, finish up some of the vacuum hoses for the EBC and make sure my timing is in line (it didn't want to start last time due to a timing issue). Then I have to bleed the brakes, finish up the front and rear XT6 swaybars, get an alignment, get new axles, and hopefully I can get it titled and licensed. It seems like a lot for one person to handle but because I'm stoked to hear it run again, I'm gonna make it happen as soon as I get the parts. Then maybe if I feel like it, install my cams I have that are already in cam towers with new seals. I'm excited!
  11. I've only seen maybe 2 besides mine here in beautiful southern Wyoming... Now its them darn black RXs that are uncommon;)
  12. maybe you should get some 155s:P nice little pizza cutter wheels, lol. Going a little bigger tire on a rim is a lot better then going a little smaller tire. I had a set of Calmaster rims that had some slightly smaller hakkepillita snow tires on it and they wouldn't set bead and when they did, oh man, the weight of the car blew them off.
  13. yup, you're gonna have to change the speedo cable. I had to change mine in my RX when I went from an auto to manual swap. It wasn't really that had and in an EA81, it would probably be easier. Just a few screws and the instrument cluster will come out. then plop a new speedo cable in there and hook it all back up. Maybe 2 hours tops to do it.
  14. There are a few people here on the board that have the TD04 from a WRX on their turbo'ed vehicles. I myself is one of them but have yet to get it back on the road from the total overhaul on the car. The TD04 is almost a bolt on with the stock uppipe from an EA82T. There is however one of the studs that have to be removed and relocated into a slightly different spot. There are maybe a couple people running a VF series turbo from Legacys on their EA82Ts as well but I don't know what differences there are. If you want to see some of the progress on a TD04 swap, get with Calebz or check out some of the posts here on the board. For some pics of my TD04 swap, check out my website which can be seen here
  15. I do have a non turbo spyder that I can modify to make into a turbod spyder intake for ya... Oh and hopefully I'll be comin with Andrew down there on Sunday as well.
  16. mmm soon mine will run hopefully. I too have timing issues but not at the degree as yours seem to be. Ack, timing belts are a new thing for me.
  17. I already changed the rotor and cap and I made sure it was tight with a little bit of mild locktite because I too have seen them come loose. I guess it also gives me an excuse to put my Delta cams in it as well;) I'm gonna see what the timing is set at when I get back home here in a couple weeks since I'm still a couple hours away working.
  18. Nice score! Looks like my first Subaru I ever owned except it had a little bit more rust... well a lot more rust. Sat in a field for 8+ years and I helped Hondasucks pull the motor, replace a couple blown freeze plugs in the heads and a new rear main seal as well. Put a 4wd clutch in it and we got her to run. I ended up trading it for a '79 4wd wagon which was in much better shape which I still have. Looks like a fun little project!
  19. yup its getting fuel, spark and air. I figured its the timing but I'm gonna check to make sure.
  20. Well I didn't prime the lifters back up when I had the engine apart since I heard you could run the engine with lots of ticking and then it would mellow out. So I guess its time to pull the radiator back out and rework the timing belts. Also gives me an excuse to install the spyder intake now;)
  21. So the other day, I tried to fire up the RX, first time since I've done a whole bunch of work to it. So when I tried to start it, it sounded like the timing was off so I reset the disty to TDC and whatnot. Still nothing and it still sounded like the timing was off (backfiring though the TB). I think it might be my timing belts but I got on here when I did them and read through it all and I reread it a few days ago and I believe I did it right. What could it possibly be?
  22. ok I'm not really in a hurry, I'd rather try and do it with something that I know would probably work, or I'll have to spend a lot more $$ and drive a few hours away to try and get a bigger sheet of lexan. I'm going to try different things on some scrap I have and since they're both straight edges that I didn't cut, They'll bond together very nicely. Hopefully I can get something that will withstand the elements...
  23. Well the lexan was free courtesy of Wal-Mart security. Also the closest Home Depot is about an hour away. I'll give Gorilla glue a try to see if I can get it to work.
  24. I'm needing to glue a couple pieces of lexan together since the sheets I was using aren't big enough for a full quarter window. So I was wondering what people recommended to glue to pieces together that would hold up in extreme temperatures and could possibly hold up to me trying to blast them out with a nice set of subwoofers. Any ideas?
  25. you might want to compare springs from an EJ22 to them. I'm going to be looking into it as well for the new engine for my RX...
