  1. I can't wait for my RX to be running. There's some great gravel roads up in the national forest area that I'm going to be sharpening my rallying skills on. 300+hp RX on a gravel road should be quite fun indeed:D
  2. helicoil my friend. Go buy a helicoil set that will fit the original bolt, cut the siezed bolt off right at the head and then drill it, tap it with the helicoil tap, screw a helicoil in and voila! The kit might cost like 40 bucks BUT you get like 12 uses out of it and since the size and the thread pitch of the bolt is so common on Subarus, you can use it everywhere. I've used the same kit on an '87 turbowagon, '86 turbosedan, '89 RX, '79 wagon, '78 Brat, and a '86 XT on the tensioner pulley for one of the timing belts.
  3. I put EA81 front suspension and brakes under my '79 wagon in the front. I dunno if it made it handle any better but I did lower it also but I never got to drive it. I had to make some custom control arms for it to work but it wasn't hard and it didn't take too long. Also, the parts are waaaay cheaper for the EA81 setup over the EA71. With the vented rotors as well, I bet it would have stopped a lot easier as well.
  4. I won't shop at Checker's unless I absolutly have to which is slim to none. Went in there to get a turn signal cancellation cam for my buddy's '78 Bronco and they gave me one and I asked them if it would work. Of course they said yes, I get home to put it in and guess what? Didn't fit... Now the guys down at Advance know me so well, I get discounts even though I'm not a tech student:D
  5. heh, that motor looks a little familiar... last time I saw it, it was in a turbowagon with a 4EAT behind it IIRC. Dude wanna build me some MS&EDIS goodies for my fantasticly big and expensive pile of crap in my driveway? I have a donor car for the parts needed for the EDIS but I'm so incredibly computer stupid its not even funny...
  6. Granted my loweriding Suby is a gen 1 but here's a pic of it still...
  7. Ebay my friend. I purchased a set of NGK plugwires for 15 bucks shipped for my '89 RX.
  8. No a 500+ hp EA82T. Hopefully I can get one up there in numbers before too long:D
  9. all righty I guess I can step up here and put my $.02 cents in... 1. The RX hubs are the same as the GL hubs. The only difference in the front axles is yes the RX DOJs are a 25 spline whereas the nonturbo GL axles are a 23 spline 2. The crossmember is the same... 3. Drivelines are the same between them. I currently have a GL wagon driveline in my RX from doing the auto to manual swap. 4. The turbo clutch kit will fit, no worries. 5. Sorry Donny, I gotta work man or I'd come and help ya out:)
  10. well Bill, a custom driveshaft would have to be made for the EA82 5-speed tranny whereas just an EA81 manual tranny driveshaft would work. Axles would be the same from an EA81 manual and EA81 auto but the EA82 turbo trannys have the bigger splines on the DOJ side. There's a good set of axles in the parts car and tranny ('85 GL-10 turbosedan) and the gearing is the same as the turbocoupe so no changing the rear ends out. I would recommend an EA82 clutch setup for it since it'll be able to hold the power a little more then the EA81 clutch.
  11. I got a friend up here without a car and he's interested in this one. Lemme know if its still up for grabs...
  12. the TD04 does fit onto a stock EA82 uppipe but the rear stud the bolts the turbo to the uppipe needs to be removed and welded to the header since it sits about 1/2" further back then the IHI RBx turbos. Also the stud will have to be shortened so the WRX downpipe will fit once the turbo is bolted down.
  13. The spyder intake came on only XT's, no other Subaru had them. They were on the 4 cylinder turbo and non turbo XT's from 87.5-89 I believe. They flow a lot better then the average EA82T intake which is why they're very sought after. They look like the newer EJ series intakes...
  14. I've used a PT4wd tranny on a few launches in a friend's '87 turbowagon. Tranny is a part time 4wd d/r from an '85 RX.
  15. could you get some pics of the turbo and non turbo intakes to show where it would be located? That would help me out greatly!
  16. Mary, you might want to check the PCV on it to see if its going bad. Pull it out (its on the top of the intake on the driver side) and rattle it around. If you hear a metal ticking sound as you rattle it, its still good but if there is no sound, try cleaning it with some carb cleaner to clean the gunk out of it. Best thing to do is to replace it with a new one since they're not too expensive, maybe 10 bucks at most...
  17. but may I remind you guys that an EA82 carbed intake needs to be modified to work around the disty on an EA81 since its right in the way of the thermostat housing. I would swap over to an EA81 Hitachi 2 barrel intake and do a nice port on it.
  18. so what do I do for the coolant return for the turbo then? Is there a spot that I can drill and tap out for a bung or something?
  19. I just found out that a parts car out at the "ole stash" just happens to be a 2wd auto XT, year unknown, BUT it has a spyder intake on it. So what are the differences between the turbo and non turbo spyders? I'm going to put this intake on my RX if its not too much hassle so then it'll be easier to finish up the plumbing for my intercooler and whatnot:) If there are things that have to be done to it to make it work, what are they? I also am getting the throttle cable as well
  20. hey Miles, sounds good to me! Just gotta get her runnin before too long I hope...
  21. Hopin for the end of summer so I can get a bunch of board members together from Wyoming and Colorado for a nice cruise-in or whatnot:D
  22. You must feel pretty special don't ya;) Mine will be running very shortly but I'm awaiting the gaskets for the turbo and the plumbing to it as well... just a few little things before she'll run but I did get her to turn over:banana:
  23. Right out of the hood on the driver's side. Just gotta make a hole for it;) I love the dew man! Its holding it because I'm making a strut tower brace with IC holder in it currently. Yes that is a stock OEM intake pipe (thanks for the idea WJM) but its from an '85 GL-10 sedan cause mine cracked really badly when I stretched it...
  24. Well lemme tell ya, its been quite a task getting it all to come together. I'm still getting it all hooked back up like the oil/cooling lines on the turbo and the piping that goes from the turbo to the IC. I also have to cut a hole for my BOV to fit but I'm gonna make it be hidden a bit so it'll blow off out of the hood;)
