ea82t cam shaft upgrade
Caboobaroo replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There are two grinds. The first is a 260 street cam, more mild for everyday street use (I got a set:D). The second grind is a 272 grind for on track racing, not something I would put in for everyday street use. -
That's one bad @$$ Legacy!!! I talked to him about it at WCSS as well and he's running a Mercedes supercharger off of a Kompressor I believe. Here's a pic of the motor at the show http://usmb.net/gallery/album274/WCSS6_049

they usually die from use plus the gasoline will weaken them over time. You do NOT need to do a full rebuild when replacing it. Just pull the top of the carb apart and in the bowl, you'll find the pump sittin in there IIRC.

SPFI block w/ turbo heads q/a
Caboobaroo replied to X35 Performance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the seperator you're describing is for the PCV and the tube sticking out of the turbo block is for the PCV system. Calebz has a carbed block in his turbowagon and he got around the whole PCV part of it. -
I'm thinking about buying some parts
Caboobaroo replied to cricket's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Same thing as what is at my parents house Andrew. I have a '78 Brat that I might be able to get those parts off of for you if you can't find anything closer. Shipping will be a killer BUT I do live north of Colorado and could possibly drive down there for the cost of gas;) -
I got my black RX 3-door from a junkyard for $150 bucks. I would have to say for a nice condition RX 3-door in white, here it would go for about $2K, where the black RX 3-door would be about $2500-$3000. The sedans will be a little less then that but around the same price range

Manual Tranny Swap Problem...
Caboobaroo replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got a stage 2 clutch kit from Will for 165 bucks plus shipping. Unfortunatly, he can't get them anymore since the shop that made them is 4+ hours away from him. If you wan to PM him, he can give you the number and whatnot for the shop but he told me he wasn't sure if they'd ship them or not, being why I had him get it for me and ship it to me. -
no way out...(very long!)
Caboobaroo replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
dude it is sooooo worth the money if you have one of the nicest gen 1 Brats in your area. Now if it was a giant rust bucket, I might have to smack you. I spent more on the trailer to go from Oregon to Wyoming then I have spent on my whole Brat! So even though it doesn't seem like it'll be worth it, it will, trust me;) I miss driving my Brat -

If it was still together, I prolly woulda brought my '78 Brat minitruck:brow: Then I coulda made more smoke the the barbque:lol: Fatty Bratty Burnouts oh YEAH!!! :burnout: -
I'm about to install my '02 WRX intercooler on the RX. From talking with Will, he said he used an EA82T turbo inlet hose that goes from the MAF sensor to the turbo as his IC -> TB hose. I have my intake currently bolted on and I tried to attach the hose BUT the PCV system is getting in the way. How should I reroute my PCV system to make this work? Has anyone else done this setup that can help? Here's a pic of Will's RX with a stock WRX intercooler http://consumer.inkfrog.com/pix/WJM/DSCF3522.JPG Any ideas? Also I need to know where the vacuum lines on the passenger side go to on the turbo. I forgot to mark them when I pulled the motor and now, I totally forgot!

Manual Tranny Swap Problem...
Caboobaroo replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the EA82T flyhwheel works BUT it has to be machined to XT6 specs, not EA82T specs since the pressure plate is a hair bigger. There's a step on the machinable surface that has to be machined down to match the rest of the flywheel in order for the XT6 clutch kit to work. If you need to have it machined to the right specs, PM Mudrat79 and ask him if he can do it for you. I believe he charges 30 bucks or so for it to be done. -
82 brat clutch issues (updated 5/28)
Caboobaroo replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like you''re on your way again Mike. At least your Brat is moving under its own power once again. My RX still isn't running but I've got to finish bolting parts on like the intake and exhaust and then rework the intake side for the intercooler. I did however finally get it back onto 4 wheels and roll it outside, something it hasn't done since before Christmas:rolleyes: Congrats on the Brat! :drunk: -
Unfortunatly, I have to find my '79 4wd wagon a new home since I have no more room and have to get rid of something. I will still have my '78 Brat but the wagon was my first gen 1 and was the reason I became a gen 1 lover. She has a lot of time and money into her but she sits in Oregon, over 15 hours away taking up my mom's parking spot in the driveway. Dad says to move it and I have nowhere to move it to so she's gotta go. I'm sad that I have to sell her but I have no way to fix her or get her back here since I have no room either and my landlord would crap her pants. So besides letting all of the gen 1 owners know, here is the post in the Marketplace http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36971 Someone in Oregon who is a gen 1 lover, please give her a good home or she'll have to go to Subaru Heaven which she's not ready for:( It's a very sad day in my world right now and no one in my house seems to understand what kind of compassion I have given my dear little wagon... Time to go cry in the Brat, maybe it'll cheer me up since I still got it:( I do still have both of my Camaros but they won't be getting sold. I had to make the tough decision of either selling a Camaro or selling the wagon and since both of the Camaros are already in parking spots that don't need to be used, then its the wagon.

well 1 last try with this car
Caboobaroo replied to dragonwingsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there's really only one way I found that the clutch on an EA82 goes in since the other way hits the middle of the flywheel and the flywheel bolts. The "hump" you're referring to which is probably the raised part of the clutch disc, goes facing the transmission. -
unfortunatly the only Hitachi EA71 carbs I have are back in Oregon, along with my EA71 dual carb setup:(
-
IIRC, its a 4"x6" Clarion speaker. I'll have to look to see if I have the one from my '78 Brat still since I stripped the dash in order to big it more "up to date"

XT6 Lug Nut Pattern = Legacy?
Caboobaroo replied to Left_coast*9's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
and its the same as my '89 RX now:-p -
This is why you take just the rims into the tire shop and ask them to put "these" tires on them and they will usually:D If they never see the car, you can lie and tell them its for a different car. Done it before a few times when people wouldn't put oversized tires on my 'ole '78 Ford F-250...

A little story for those with cloth seats.
Caboobaroo replied to reddevil's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
My '79 4wd wagon had the plaid interior just like you describe. I realized it had the vinal underneath it when I was pulling them in favor of "new" vinal seats. I proceeded to tear apart the plaid until it was all off. Didn't look too bad but it had mold/mildew growing in the foam so I decided it would be best to burn the seats and take the leftover scrap metal to the scrapyard. But I still got nice vinal seats from a '78 wagon with 73,000 miles:eek: -
Vented front rotors on a 1980
Caboobaroo replied to NoahDL88's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well I'm not sure if the backing plates will need to be swapped since I did the swap on an EA71 car, not an EA81 car.
