test the plug wires with an ohm meter to see what kind of resistance they have. If the #3 is bad, the resistance will be a lot more then the others

RX's without body kits. Any trend behind it?
Caboobaroo replied to TROGDOR!'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mine came with no side skirts or rear skirts... but that has changed MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! -
over to the lifted Subaru gang!!!! I'm soon to be converting an '81 2wd wagon to a 4wd using parts from an '84 wagon and a 5-speed d/r tranny I got for free. Anyways, yes, I'm coming over to having a lifted Subaru around... I better get my Brat back together so I can drive my lowered Subarus again:D Also in the works might be a lifted '80 Brat with an '81 Brat d/r drivetrain in it. The body on the '81 has been drug into death by rust but the '80 sitting next to it has barely any. Also, the '81 has the jumpseats and the low rollbar and the '80 has the low topper and a bullbar too. Mmmm fun with the gen 1's:clap:

Very nice Ken. Can't wait to see some pics of it in action rallyin around the course... also, what year Supra rear calipers did you use? -
Heaven forbid what have I gotten myself into!!
Caboobaroo replied to Skip's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Skip, if you need some help with the disty swapping, let me know. It was the best thing I could do in my Brat. I swapped the distys since the points disty was screwed up and rebuilt the carb with leftovers from other carb rebuild kits and got 30mpg around town! -
The best stuff I found that you can get at a local autoparts store or Wally World is made by Armor All. Its called Quicksilver I believe. Just spray it on, let it sit for 30 seconds and then hose off, no touching needed. Only problem is keep it away from auto paint since I had some spill on the hood of my dad's '82 BMW and it took the clear right off in about an hour and stained the paint...

thats right. I found a pair of gen 1 Brat in Casper yesterday. Right across the street from my buddy's girlfriend's house in a guys yard how seems to be a Subaru freak as well. The first one I saw is an '80 Brat in beige with the EA71, single range 4wd... well yeah. It has a little bit of body damage to the driver side fender but nothing fixable. Also has a bul bar and single round headlights. Its currently sitting on stacked rims and has a wagon seat sitting in the bed under the LOW topper... The second one I didn't see until later since it was next to a shop. It's the famous '81 dual range, EA81 Brat. Dark blue in color, has one wheel missing. Full GL setup including the tach cluster, quad headlights, JUMP SEATS, low rollbar... well you get what I'm talking about. Unfortunatly, it's dying of cancer and probably not worthwhile to fix the mass amounts of rust in the rockers, doors, and around the rear fenderwells. So anyways, after I had to clean my pants cause I crapped myself, I was going to go talk to the owner. He wasn't home and no one was... damn. Well I'm gonna go see if he'll sell them as a pair and strip the '81 and swap it all into the '80... and then lift it;)

I'm looking for more body mods for on the street. Looking into fiberglass widebody kit as already mentioned or maybe some fender flares to give my RX a more WRX stance instead of being flat and boring... fiberglass hood with WRX hoodscoop mounted in it as well:D

The Beast is Finally up and runing!
Caboobaroo replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
basically what I've done/doing on my RX with the TD04 as far as inlet/outlet problems is... I got on ebay, figured out how big the inlet was (2.25") and got a 90 degree silicone hose in black that I cut down (had 6" legs on it) and it fits finr. Comes straight up now like on the stock IHI RHB5 turbo. I'm also modifying a Samco y-pipe hose to connect from the turbo to the IC but thats my little secret until its done. Basically go to ebay and start searching for silicone hoses or try http://www.vertexnow.com/car.html. I actually went through ebay and got the hoses for cheaper plus combined shipping then directly through them BUT it was well worth it IMO especially after researching silicone hoses from other companies. -
Early Gen 1 Brat GL series Q&A
Caboobaroo replied to Skip's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yes they did come with a tach and quad headlights. I almost scored a '79 GL Brat with the tach and quads but it also had a unique stripe pattern on it that I've never seen before on any other gen 1 Brat. Too bad he got rid of it before I could get some pics of it:rolleyes: -
wow.. even the junky one is in better condition mine WAS in... mwahahahahaha Good score buddy, way to save the best of the best!

ok, here's the easiest way I have found to help locate TDC. First off, pull the number 1 plugwire off and take the sparkplug out Then screw the plug back in a couple threads Take a 22mm or a 7/8" socket on a breaker bar or ratchet and turn it clockwise When the number 1 cylinder is compressing, the air will make a nice whoosh sound from between the threads If it is on the TDC stroke, the air will stop and you'll see timing marks through the timing mark hole in the bellhousing If not, then you're 180 out, just continue turning it untill it makes the whoosh sound again and you will see the timing marks As for the flywheel, there's only one way it can bolt on. Set it on there and get the holes lined up but make sure ALL of them line up since there's a couple which are unevenly spaced, thus making it only one way to go on

Early Gen 1 Brat GL series Q&A
Caboobaroo replied to Skip's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Skip, those were all options for the GL where the GL came stock with all of them but had the option of not having them. My '78 Brat has quad headlights, 4wd, but no tach. My '79 wagon is 4wd, quad headlights, deluxe interior, but no tach as well. The GLs came with everything but you could choose to have the single round headlights on it instead of the quads. -
So hopefully those RX springs work out for ya pretty good then:D Need some PICS man, c'mon! Me wanna see!!!

Mark, PM Will since he has a hookup on a stage 2 clutch setup for 165 bucks. Much better then an XT6 clutch IMO. I'm just waiting to get money on Thursday to order mine:D

Teaser pic...i scored big time today
Caboobaroo replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
very nice Brad. Not quite my style BUT if they were a steal of a price, would be worth it IMO. I've been looking into getting a set of deep dish rims for my RX;) Fitment not an issue though cause its getting some serious body mods before paint:D
