  1. The light wasn't straight on when I took the pic. Its sitting kinda slanted to one side. Trust me, they're straight as an arrow. I spent about 2 hours getting them perfect before I painted them. Oh and the taillight was broken to begin with so if I messed up, it wouldn't be a big loss:rolleyes:
  2. it became my Rabbit and yes it seemed gutless but it pushed my buddies '86 Scirroco back to his house about 3 blocks after I installed the big bumper kit. I'm not sure what redline is since they never came with a tach in the Rabbits unless it was the Rabbit GTD (basically a diesel version of the GTI). I also installed a GTI dash into it, GTI front seats and very nice black carpet.
  3. Well I got inspired by subaru_styles and his custom taillights on both his wagon and 3-door. So I decided to get a little creative myself with the taillight that is going to go into my RX. Didn't take too long and came out very nicely. Now the pics! http://community.webshots.com/photo/302403464/320289667uXoTqX http://community.webshots.com/photo/302403464/320289571bACgGD Ok so what do you guys think? I want opinions on it but nothing like "Oh you're a stupid ricer, blah blah blah" Just if you like it, then tell me why you like it or if you don't, give me a good reason why.
  4. the intake manifold bolts, try soaking them in PBlaster before moving them. Also trying to tighten them will help break them loose but not too much or you could break them. If they do break, you can go to CarQuest and get a helicoil kit for about 40 bucks but it works on a lot of bolts that tend to break on Subarus not sure on the EGR tube size
  5. Pictures are worth a thousand words as a wise man once said... too bad I don't have his wisdom:lol: http://usmb.net/gallery/Stuckruss
  6. yes I would have to agree with qman. Either the vacuum lines are on wrong or the advance is bad. Why would you want to go from a points disty to a points disty? If you can find any EA81 electronic disty ('83-newer), swap that in. You'll get better MPG and better performance. I did a write-up in the USRM about it. I swapped a disty from an '84 2wd car into my '78 Brat and wow, what an improvement!
  7. I got some extra parts left over from my '78 Brat which has been stripped down to be reworked into a Subaru/Nissan minitruck. Subaru body, Nissan truck frame cut down to fit underneath it. No, I'm not doing cheap either;) If you need any extra parts, lemme know and I'll see what I got!
  8. better have the alternator tested. It might have been just replaced BUT you can still have problems with new ones as well.
  9. yes Harbor Freight! I got mine there for $40 bucks and its a Fluke 88 wanna be BUT has more functions then the Fluke. Its a CenTek. Gray plastic unit in a yellow rubber slip case for protection. I've had it for about 2 years and its a very nice piece of equipment. I don't think I could have lived without it. IMHO, that would be the best one to go with instead of one from Wal-Mart or Radioshack that is worthwhile for the price and the abuse it can handle.
  10. Yes but I remember the good deals a lot as well... like the motor and the crap load of parts I got from you Stan:D and when I traded an '87 Justy for my '78 Brat because I'd rather the Justy go to impound then the Brat and sure enough, the Justy was in the impound yard...
  11. yes, the PVC hoses coming from the valve covers goes into a "T" fitting with a smaller fitting coming off of it so it looks more like an "F" fitting. The smaller fitting goes into the air cleaner. This has to do with the emissions on the vehicles. It helps recycle the pressure in the crankcase into the intake system instead of letting it out into the atmosphere where it does bad stuff. Just look at California! Mary, I also have a FSM which is a reprint and updated version of what Paul has so if he doesn't have it in his, I might have it in mine. Paul, hows the brown fender from my Brat?
  12. Thanks Tom, I was about to point him in that direction!
  13. Mike, inspect the throw out bearing fork very well. These have a tedency to slightly bend due to the clutch being out of adjustment, especially if the Brat was abused which is a good possibility if you ask me. They also wear out where they pivot on the ball pivot mounted on the tranny. Make sure you also inspect the ball pivot as well to see if its majorly worn or cracked or something. I know Andrew had a clutch fork break on him, well actually me when I was driving the turbowagon while he was in Utah a couple years ago, and I didn't see it until we started looking at it a lot closer before we pulled the single range 5-speed outta it. So maybe its possible it bent or something isn't lining up right...
  14. yeah my AC clutch has a defect as well..... it has no bearings left in it! I gotta find one before summer...
  15. well I checked the clearances yesterday and they are still in spec. So I think its time to spend the 10 or so bucks to get a reseal kit for it:D
  16. where can I buy a new impeller online if anywhere? I know where to get a new oil pump but tis like over 100 bucks unless there's someplace cheaper. Can you help me in the right direction?
  17. I've been looking at buying a new oilpump for my RX since well, I'm doing everything short of a full rebuild. It has a new waterpump, new gaskets, new timing belts and a few other parts. So would it be better to just reseal the oilpump (150k miles) or just spend the 85 or so bucks and get a new one? I kinda know what everyone is going to say but I was just seeing if resealing it would be a good option as well and I can in a couple months, replace it with a new one...
  18. If you head west on Harrison and hang a right on 35th st, go down about 4 blocks and you'll see a gen 1 4wd wagon sitting in a driveway and possibly a gen 1 DL Brat sitting about a half a block further. How do I know this? Well I USED to live in Corvallis until I moved here about 6 months ago and well, the wagon is mine and the Brat belongs to an older lady who has a lot of new parts in it and is trying to sell it for $2000 if I remember. I'll be comin back in July in my RX so maybe we should get together and hang for a few hours if you're still there:D
  19. a prybar and a hammer will become your best friend when this happens. Just start prying on it around the center and tap it with the hammer. When it still doesn't come off, then start usin brute force with the hammer:D
  20. so the heads I got had no lifters in them. I have a couple good sets of lifter but is there anything special I need to do before I put them in? Not like rebuilding them or anything but I've heard of them needing to be 'pumped up'. Is that true? If it is, how do I do it?
  21. your car is both the Loyale and the Leone. Leone is what the EA82 bodystyle over in Europe and Austrailia is called and the Loyale is just an option for that bodystyle but its still classified as an EA82
  22. Mike, I think he's trying to take over one of our titles.... either mine as the USMB drunk apprentice or yours, the USMB drunk! :drunk:
  23. well the one from my '89 threaded right on in. Guess Stan must have taken the old one out to put in the new motor in his wagon...
