  1. I was thinking about making a set of flares for my RX once its on the road again so it won't be for a little while.
  2. meh just pull it off and leave it off. Then grab a grinder and take the driprails off and then weld up the seam, smooth it out, primer it and VOILA shaved driprails:drunk:
  3. So you're not gonna bastardize the RX then since you have to drive it? WOOHOO!!! Why don't you drop a mock-up motor into the wagon and make a setup work on that instead of trying to make it work on the car you drive everyday?
  4. well I do have the crap EA82T I pulled out of it. I was thinking about slapping the heads back onto the block and the intake back on so I could drop it back it to mod the intake to fit. I really don't see a problem except for it being a bit too much pipe but hey, thats what my trusty hacksaw is for:drunk:
  5. basically to make a Subaru RWD is to break apart the CV joint and stuff the axle stub back into the brake hub. It holds it all together but you have to get rid of the rest of the axle in order to do it. Just find a junk axle and bust the CV apart with a hammer or a mini sledge and stick the stub back in and bolt it all back together... but don't forget to get rid of the other part of the axle like where it goes onto the tranny...
  6. I am putting an AEM cold air intake from a WRX onto my RX. I finally got all the parts I need to do it and so now I can start making modifications to it to fit. I took a few pics to show how it all goes together outside of the car. http://community.webshots.com/album/302403464nPmSgF/2 I just need to figure out how to plug the MAF sensor hole for the WRX MAF... Lemme know what y'all think!
  7. See... now you know about how the axle can go back onto the stub the wrong way and about the grease seals on the bearings. I did the whole alxe mixup when I was working on a buddies turbowagon but I realized why it wasn't lining up before I tried to drill it:-p
  8. When my Brat was still together with the JDM high compression EA71, I had it lowered to the bumpstops and you want to talk about fatty burnouts! It had a blown driver side axle when I got it and with the front wheel ebrake... Well I could sit in parking lots and spin cookies without moving anywhere. Just put the ebrake on, crank the steering wheel in one direction and start doing a burnout. It was the most fun especially when I'd start to roast the rear tires next to some Honda retard... or drifting it sideways past a gen 2 Camaro...
  9. The earlier EJ22 NA motors are MAF controlled. Maybe I should look into putting an EJ22T ECU in my car like bushbasher suggested since I was going to suggest this as well...
  10. There is the very rare JDM high compression motor which was almost a myth at some point... but I had one in my Brat and lemme tell you, that motor put some power out! Now XSNRG owns it and is going to give it a good home since I'm upgrading to a bigger motor for my Brat minitruck.
  11. it almost sounds like it could be the cat coming apart inside the housing and bouncing around inside. You might want to crawl under the car and start tapping on stuff with a hammer or a large screwdriver
  12. ya I'd want one for my RX as well.... fitted for a TD04.
  13. Well that kinda sucks... Glad it went to a good home though... from what you say, he doesn't really sound like much of a guru if he doesn't actually look and goes by memory The did make two. The '81 Brats were the ONLY ones to have the top mounted starter on an EA81, the rest were side mounted. It sure is doable. Anything is doable with a little knowhow and the ambition to try new things and figure out the roadblocks that come with it. Yeah it should still be good. Now if it sat in the car for like a couple years... that's a different story right there
  14. now THAT looks like fun.... I don't think they have any autocrosses here unfortunatly so the RX won't be doing too much except for some draggin at the local drag strip:(
  15. wow... I'm now VERY lost.... sheesh and I thought I was lost before LOL!
  16. <-- is crying inside... Well the Brat's not done yet and neither is the RX BUT the Brat has a few more things done to it... like shaved EVERYTHING and some body cutting stuff for the frame... Just think of the ghost of my little brown Brat there...
  17. in '81, Brats had the option for an EA81 and a dual range 4-speed which is the same as the later EA81s BUT the EA81 Brat has the top mount starter bellhousing on it so the tranny would mate up to an older EA71. The newer style EA81s have the starter mounted off to the side like EA82s
  18. The stock EA82T depending on the years, was around 115hp stock. There's a fellow on the board I believe is subyrally, has an EJ22 in the back of an old bug and he says it friggin moves...
  19. I had an '83 hatchback with the same blown freezeplugs in the passenger side head as well. The only place I could get them was from a Subaru mechanic in The Dalles, OR when I still lived there... well Mike (Flowmastered87GL actually got them for me). Might wanna see about getting them from someone and having them shipped to you cause they're a real pain in the arse to try and get from a parts store... and the dealer doesn't carry them PLUS, they're a hell of a lot more expensive
  20. bump... whatever happened to this great thing you were producing Gary? I can get a couple sets of stock EA82 cam gears your way if need be and some money as well for a beautiful set of these:D
  21. almost look like valve seals to me...
  22. Well I remember the WRX clutch disc discovery by Will (thanks again!) but I have a new question. Could a WRX flywheel be modified to fit onto an EA82T? Then the next question is will it fit inside the stock FT4wd d/r 5-speed RX tranny's bellhousing? I've heard of modifying EA82 flywheels for EJ22 motors for swaps and stuff like that but what about the other way around? This is one of my next BIG purchases so maybe I should find a crap WRX flywheel from someone and experiment...
  23. weird cause I noticed the XT6 clutch wasn't fitting into an EA82 turbo flywheel when Andrew and I pulled the motor out of his turbowagon for a new clutch and new headgaskets. I asked John about it and he mentioned the step and how it needed to be machined down. Maybe I'll have to look at it again when I decide on a clutch setup for the RX...
  24. There is ONE difference between the flywheels though. The stock EA82 flywheel has a 'step' on it which can be machined down but the XT6 flywheel is still lighter. If you plan on going with a stock EA82 flywheel, you'll need to have that step machined down. Mudrat has a hookup on getting it done for about 25 bucks I think plus the flywheel gets remachined as well so nice new surfance for nice new clutch:D
