engine options list throughout the years
Caboobaroo replied to rabbit_39's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the turbo will have a 3;70 rear end in it. SO you'd need to swap the tranny and the rear end. The driveshaft will be the same so no need to swap that. The front axles will need to be swapped because the turbo and 4EATautomatic cars had a 25 spline DOJ whereas the NA d/r, s/r, and 3AT cars had a 23 spline. The axles should be able to handle the power no problem since I have heard of this swap done before -

a lot of people that are upgrading their turbo are going for a stock WRX turbo which is a TD04. Can be had for about 100-150 bucks depending. I'm about to paypal a guy from nasioc 120 bucks for one with 15k on it and had 2k mile oil changes with synthetic oil, never boosted about 17psi and stuff like that. Just gotta ask:D -

when you get around to installing those coils, let me know what they're from and what you had to do like modifying them and whatnot. I'd like to put a set of those in the RX:D -
ok now you have to tell us what its powered by due to the 'big hump' in the middle of the hood...

RX In the snow (pix of course)
Caboobaroo replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Brian, you should just take a road trip up here.... there's snow like 8 months out of the year and I've seen some good roads to go drifting on when my RX is done.... mmmm drifting. Gotta feed the monster somhow:D -
ehhh thats not a Subaru, sorry.... maybe they WISH they had a Subaru with a lift and 33's right about now.....
-
ummm I had it driving and tried the brakes out BUT I'm upgrading to the XT6 stuff for my 5-lug. I'm planning on flushing my whole system once its all in there but with making power, you need to get it to stop as well. One reason I'm asking this question is because I can get one for pretty reasonable so I was going to try and make it work if it was possible.

cam seals and helicoil question
Caboobaroo replied to belizeanbus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've done lots of helicoils on EA82s since I always seem to have a problem breaking the bolts holding the intake on. They work great! Just get the size you need from the auto part store, drill the hole to the correct diameter, tap it with the tap supplied in the set, put some locktite on the helicoil and insert, let sit for s few minutes while having a beer, a smoke, or whatever you wanna do to pass the time, and put back together...VOILA! Never had a problem:) -
EMERGENCY.. advice needed please
Caboobaroo replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok take the 36mm socket, put it on the axle nut, put a long like 4 ft breaker bar + cheater pipe on there and jump. If that doesn't work, get a prybar, take the wheel off and stick it in there and wrench on it as hard as you can. You said you're getting used ones so it don't matter if you screw this setup up:) -
will this header fit with a TD04? I know that the uppipe flange is different on that back hole...

ok so I finally got the heads pulled form the RX and I'm inspecting them for cracks. They have the usual cracks between the valves but I'm looking at the cracks into the exhaust ports to see if that could also be a ploblem of mine. Keep in mind these are gen 2 heads from my '89 RX with 208k miles on them. So anyways, I'm looking at them and they seem to both have cracks in the exhaust ports BUT they're not in the center of the exhaust ports like I've seen or heard of. They are both off to one side like closer to wall of the exhaust port. Below, I have a pic (not a very good one) of where they are cracked. I'm also planning on getting the pressure checked as well but I wanted to ask about this here first. Ok pic time.... (sorry for the crappy image) http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=3844 Any ideas?

well the XT6 and EA82 calipers are single pot calipers but I have seen aftermarket 2 pot Legacy calipers. Yes the Legacy bolt pattern is the same as an XT6, 5x100. ery well written, I had no idea that they would suck that much compared to OEM ones. I knew that they would be able to warp a little easier due to the amount of rotor to pad contact they make thus making more heat into less metal. You should put that in the USRM for everyone to read. Thanks guys for the input, keep it coming, I want opinions on doing this setup!

ok here's what I'm planning on doing to my setup right now. I am putting XT6 brakes on it but I plan on upgrading to a drilled rotors from a Legacy since I believe they'll fit along with some upgraded calipers. I saw a gen 1 Legacy in a U-Pull-It in Oregon that was done up by RalliTek with 2 pot calipers and I was planning on doing the same. Along with this, I'm adding stainles steel brake lines as well. This is why I asked if the WRX or even a Legacy MC would work. I haven't look at the MC on the RX yet but I will get back to you as soon as I find out where the lines come out from. Even if it they don't come out the same direction, I can make new hardlines pretty easily:D

Pat's part didn't come in yesterday unfortunatly and I didn't want him to risk coming back down the summit and then back up it today so he's in his truck right now sleeping in Cheyenne awaiting the new part.... -

Caboobaroo replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
aww come on. Lowered Brats are pimpin! Look at garner's Brat. His is lowered too but since his has the EA82T in it, it MUST make it cooler then mine which had a JDM high compression EA71 in it:-\ -
