  1. good to hear! Mine should be going from step 1 to step 4 here soon...oh here's step 4.. Step four - lots of mods to make it go fast...... Hopin for the end of January for it to be rollin again with a big list of mods:D
  2. I took a socket and welded it to an old cam pulley in the center and then welded two bolts through the holes so it would slide right onto the cam pulley on the motor. Now I can put my breaker bar on it, or put my torque wrench on it or whatever I want to! Looks great though, I like the fabbing skills!
  3. sweet!!! I should have mine soon along with my WRX hoodscoop, not a knockoff like you guys have. Then I gotta find a good hood and mold it in and do the bodywork. You gotta get some pics once its in there!!
  4. I've seen pics of one before. Kinda cool I must say but a little to long for my taste....
  5. the valves will NOT bend on these motors due to the setup of the non interferance heads unlike a bunch of other imported cars like Mistubishis. I have a guy I work with have a shop (an import tuner shop which specializes in hopping up Eclipses) tell him that he has a bent valve and blah blah blah. Well I went over to work on it one morning after work and started it up. There were no noises coming form the motor, I even checked a few things like the plugs! Runs like a champ with no problems! Now....taking a car to a shop is crap, I'd rather do it myself... Long story short, took the Camaro to a shop when I couldn't figure it out i highschool, told me the timing chain had jumped a few teeth and so the timing was off. Replaced it with a new one and later found out, the fuse for the passenger side fuel injectors was missing....
  6. do ya still have a good bottom end I can have when I come up? I got a set of gen 3 heads coming so those aren't a problem:D
  7. someone broke into one of my friend's cars and we found out who it was. Lets just say that DOT 3 brake fluid, a Super Soaker, and auto paint make good buddies....The brake fluid takes off car paint in oh about 10 minutes and when it rains a half hour later after you do it, makes the car a NEW color!
  8. caleb, why did you go with the whole shortblock and not just the pistons? I know about the knock sensor on top of the block and the oil passage I believe it is for the turbo? Don't you need those cause from what I've seen on a carbed motor, is that they're not there!
  9. Well I'm doing this comversion to my '89 RX here very soon, once I get the tranny and a few last parts. I decided to PM a guy on the board here (mudrat79 aka John) as in what parts I would need to do the conversion here's the PM I sent and his response... "Ok I seached on the board and came up short and since you're the man, I decided to ask you. I picked up a black '89 RX for 150 bucks a week ago. I have a guy a couple hours away basically giving me parts for it and he has a d/r ft4wd tranny that I'm getting also. The reason for the tranny is because my RX is a 4EAT and ack, I don't want it. What parts do I need to convert it from an auto to a manual? This is what I think I need but help me out in case I miss anything: tranny shift linkage crossmember pedal assembily clutch cable instument cluster driveshaft Thanks John! Russ Main thing you missed was the Flywheel, and Clutch assembly ..... Also to be cosmetic you will need to find Center console plastics.....But Not necessary to drive the thing..... When you pull the Auto shifter assembly , you will have a tunnel plate that unbolts, With this removed, all your Linkage will go right in, No messy cutting involved.... Later, John" Hope this helps a little bit. Once I get the conversion done with removal of old AT and installation of the new MT, I'll do a write-up in the USRM about it...
  10. I'd be interested in buying a lot of them like the wrist pin puller....Tools are something worth paying for, even if they're speciality tools. I know a lot of people on the board tend to work on mainly Subarus so its a good thing to have a good assortment of them!
  11. ok the fuel filter you looked for won't be there cause only EA81s got that fuel filter.... The other thing sounds like it could be a choke problem. Check to see if the choke is sticking open or closed somehow. I was having the same problem on the Holley 5200 I put on my Brat and it turned out to be a sticking linkage. The brake problem, is it when you're slowing down and coming to a stop or does it also do it when you're stopped? It could be something is loose and is knocking against something like the clutch cable could possibly be hitting something when you hit the brakes.....
  12. and that wagon hits like 149 decibles if I can remember, right Brad?
  13. the area where they are drilled and tapped are there but no holes so it would have to be drilled and tapped....
  14. ...personal aircraft like jets and helicopters, 5-star hotel rooms for those 'business' trips, fancy dancy Mercedess which cost about as much as a house....
  15. yes left and right are the same for the EXCEPTION OF.... the bungs for the oil lines for the turbo....
  16. yeah I know, I'm afraid of cleaning it off but I got a full OEM gasket kit coming to the house right atfer the new year along with a bunch of goodies:grin:
  17. ugh Andrew didn't make a run down there when he was there.......dang it!
  18. another thing to check is the clutch TO bearing fork which the cable attaches to. I was driving a GL turbowagon and that happened to me and I thought it was the cable, then the clutch so when Hondasucks and I pulled the s/r 5-speed out to put a d/r RX tranny into, we noticed it had worn down and actually split the fork in half!
  19. ehhh ok Morgan, the fuel pump on gen 1's is under the hood on the passenger side, not like an EA82. Mary, I would check the connection for not just the fuel pump but also the connection at the external voltage regulator as well and on the alternator. On gen 1 cars, the fuel pump is driven off of the current being put out by the alternator. The only time it will kick on is when the engine is cranking or is running. I know when my alternator went out, it would only run for about 30 seconds before it'd die. So start on the connections, check the VR and the alternator while you're at it. Oh and that box of parts will be shipped in the next couple days. I've been working through the holidays.....stupid Wal-Mart, I swear!
  20. well I finally got my motor pulled, by myself with a come-along and the rafters in my garage. Took me about 3 hours to pull it but hey, I figure not too bad for this being my first EA82T pull I've done without help. So I got the motor out and it now currently sits on the floor in my garage. Some of you might remember me talking about an oil leak form the turbo area causing it to spew it all over my engine compartment. Well I found the leak. The oil line in the back of the head seems to have a hole in it. Its the only place I see any oil built up around. The reason I believe it was spweing is because the gasket between the turbo and the up pipe is shot. Also I got a major exhaust leak at the heads because the up pipe is loose, the gaskets are shot, or the studs are stripped out. Well its time to take a break and go get some food... mmmm Arbys.... I love get 50% off:D Then I get to see if my heads are still good when I pull them off. I'll have pics once I get the heads off:D
  21. if we can make it later in the month or the beginning of next month I will definatly have the RX goin by then. I hopefully got me a manual tranny coming form the west coast so I don't have a stupid crapomatic in there and I'll have the full reseal hopefully, spider intake, XT6 throttle body, WRX TMIC, WRX TD04 turbo, WRX downpipe, short throw shifter, 5-lug and possibly some nice Sparco rims.... That is if we can move it up a few weeks..... That would also give some time to the guys on other boards. Try getting a few people from the www.clubwrx.net board to join up. They had a meet I think in November or the beginning of December...
  22. I got the y-pipe but it goes back to the back of the cab and ends so you'd have to finish it.... its sittin out back, came from my '78 Brat and since I'm dropping a v6 or a v8 into it, I won't need it anymore....
  23. hmm sounds good, I'm gonna check them out. I like the info you've provided DIS. I knew some stuff about high performance clutches since I've worked on race cars with manual trannies. These cars have almost 1000hp too......
  24. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA We've got an another Picaso if I must say!!!!
