Thinking about another Sube, help me decide.
Caboobaroo replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
especially after a 5-speed d/r swap;) Then you'll have the option of either the part time d/r car or the full time d/r car;) -

do you get any cool sounds from the recirc valve? -
'78 Brat, JDM high compression FE motor, RWD.....makes some badass burnouts I say! With it lowered, it would posi the rear like crazy and would like to drift going in a straight line. Got some great looks from a couple guys in a gen 2 Camaro when I came down the road sideways past them:D

Trans question Gen 1 (5 speed)????????
Caboobaroo replied to SUBARU3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
should be all the same from what I can remember. I had a JDm FE motor in my Brat and it mated right up to the stock 4-speed tranny. Don't see why it would be different -
RX 5 Lug strut question/idea's....
Caboobaroo replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Hmm I believe that you'll need to use struts from a GC8 Legacy for the 5-lug swap from what I've read. I'm not entirely sure if the regual Legacy stuff will bolt right in or with the EA82 tops on them. As for the spings, your best bet is to go with a set of coilovers from a '01-'03 Honda Civic. I think it was Caleb who told me that but I can't remember who.... -

to answer the other question of when they came out with the 4EAT I believe it was either late '88 or the beginning of the '89 model year. Granted you could still get a car up to '94 in the Loyales and the DLs with the 3AT I believe. Like Skip said, either plan on upgrading to a 4EAT which can be kinda hard to find but can also have their problems, or to a 5-speed. -
hey I am paying for it. Called a job ya know;) Want to talk about driving? Yeah thats right. I used to race my Camaro in highschool. No not stoplight racing, more like draggin and road racing.......legal, all of it:D

Another steamer thread....normal?
Caboobaroo replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sometimes you can get condensation build up in the crankcase in colder weather. When this happens, the condensation will seap past the rings while its running giving you a vapor from the exhaust. Can't really remember why it does this but a lot of cars in cold weather seem to 'smoke' from the exhaust more The other thing is that your car has heat coming out of the exhaust, duh! Warm exhaust in colder weather will also seem to 'smoke' but goes away when you're driving it because its dissapating from the air blowing around it. -
its me!!! I got the Ultimate RX...MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... welll not THE ultimate RX but more like the ultimate RX killer!!! Mwahahahaha...now I just need to pull the motor and begin the build up:D

yeah I have to agree but with my Brat project, I'm going for the looks form the people who first off are wondering what the hell the car is and why its at the drag strip to the 'OMG its doing a burnout' and finally the 'Holy cow, it ran an 11 seconds!?!?!?!' I'm not only doing it for the thrill of having a fast Brat but also the funny looks from people when they see a Subaru Brat running 11's at the strips.

I seen a few of those mail carriers, pretty cool I must say! Awhile ago when my Camaro was still on the road, I passed an asian guy in the Honda and noticed the same thing! I was so confused until I seen the back of it which had japanese plates on it. Even though it was a Honda, even worse a Civic, it was RHD!!! -
OK you PNW,MT folks Show me some 70's stuff

so if Pat is running to Mudrats, I know Andrew is taking some parts down there to his shop and so then Pat could grab that tranny. Andrew is currently back there for xmas and he'll be coming back out here the beginning of January. I don't quite know the time frame we're looking at but just a heads up! I can call Andrew and let him know to tell John that its for you Paul! -
the '05 STi lug pattern is 5x114.3 I've been looking at rims because I'm gonna be getting a pimpin set of Sparcos once I get the 5-lug done. 17x7s I believe I was looking at. Then planning on going with some 205/40R17s for them. I'm doing a rear 3.90 LSD for it and maybe get a phanton grip front 3.90 LSD from Mudrat in a RX tranny....
-
yeah the whole rear suspension setup is waaaaay different and bolts in completly different. I look at swapping my 4wd stuff from my '79 wagon into a '78 wagon but yeah, that was a no go....

EA82T Turbo Timer Install
Caboobaroo replied to dsmracer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
gettin me a Greddy TT for 10 bucks plus shipping but the guy says it doesn't work but it did at one time. Meh I can fix it and for 10 bucks for a Greddy, I can't complain. I was goin to ask this question myself until I seen this post. Thanks guys! -
Yeah I know all about that. Having a lowered Brat and a non low profile jack make it so. I was thinkin about 205/40R17's for it. Roll the fenders or give em a little flare job should do the trick I think. Oh and can anyone photoshop those rims onto my RX? Or an RX in general, preferably black? Thanks for the input guys, 5-lug should be bought and on the car in the next few days I hope!

82-92 Camaro/Firebird hatchback glass over Baja bed?
Caboobaroo replied to schspeedster's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
well I was sayin that the hatch from those cars are too big. Now one from a 3-door, now that would fit. And I would have to agree with you John, it would look pretty pimpin! -
man I know how it is. I rebuilt the heads on the EA71 in my '79 wagon and I did a complete reseal, rebuilt the oil pump, new waterpump, and a whole bunch of other things done including painting it up real nice. Well I dropped it into my Brat which was the first time I had run it since I did all the work to it and it had a rod knock form a bad center main with the thrust bearing integrated into it. Crank move about 1/4" and goes away when I push the clutch in. Oh well, good for parts especially if I decide to get an EA81T for it and build the first EA81TT:D
