  1. there is a write-up I did in the USRM found here.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/article.php?a=38 I did it in my '78 Brat and with rebuilding the stock Hitachi, it ran like a champ and got 30mpg as well:D
  2. tools you'll need.... 17mm wrench and socket 12mm wrench and socket 14mm wrench and socket 10mm wrench and socket 19mm for lug nuts 3" and 6" extension ratchet :D:D
  3. well I was kinda thinking about making them, I just need to get me a cutting torch setup since I don't think a plasma cutter would cut through the 1/4" steel plates I'm planning on using. Also I as looking at how it could be configed into a car with a TMIC and it can be done, just needs to get one and the piping so I can start making measurments:D
  4. I agree and don't worry about doing anything to the front diff unless its a phantom LSD. If you lincoln lock the front, you'll be having sone steering issues especially if you drive it on the street....
  5. well here's the plans... Nissan pickup frame with 4-link rear and straight axle either a 2.8 MPFI, 500 hp, 12:1 compression or that 350 I mentioned depending on the motor, either Borg-Warner 5-speed (v6) or Super T10 with the 350 bagged front and rear c-notched frame for rear axle and a whole other mess of goodies:D well I have 2 Camaros already and if I get the 350, I can drop it into one I have which has the 2.8 and I have a whole bunch of performance parts for the 2.8..... thats why I kinda want to go with it besides it being small:D
  6. Granted I do street race evey now and then but it kinda has not happened for awhile since both of my Camaros have been out of comission for awhile and the Brat currently is stripped and has no insurance either. I seen on the news last night that there were a bunch of morons street racing down a major busy street in Denver that ended up putting them all and innocent drivers in the hospital. One car that was racing had to have the people cut out of it because the car was so mangled. So racing on busy streets is baaaaad......especially when its about 5 in the afternoon and you're doing 70mph.... an '87 GL 4wd turbowagon on 8psi and a stock motor will take a '88 Prelude 2.0s, '98 Accord v6 auto, take a '87 RX7 with a Hayes racing motor off the line:D wait...did I say that outloud?
  7. WOO buddy!!! I can't wait! I'll be wanting one of those setups Shadow since I am....ehhh....electronically engineering inept (get the point?) So this is te perfect thing for me!!!
  8. so is my '89 RX:banghead: but not for long.....coming soon to a black RX near you....FT4WD d/r 5-speed w/dif lock OH YEAH!
  9. yeah its more of a pimp engine. Swap in an EA71. 1600cc of raw japanese hampsters:D
  10. I kinda think he's referring to a 3-point, not a two point. I'm planning on making one for my '89 RX since I'm doing the XT6 suspension swap into it to get the 5-lug and the bigger sway bars. All of which helps the bottom portion of the car but there's nothing on the upper side of it to make it handle better. You'd be better off going with a 3-point, one point on each strut tower and one in the center of the firewall. It should make a HUGE difference!!!
  11. why lift it? Slam it!!! Yeah I'm picking up a mildly built 350 and for cheap so I'm going to be dropping that into the Brat possibly or maybe into a Camaro I found for cheap as well..... Lumpycam's Brat is AMAZING!!! I envy it sooo much and I drool everytime I see it. Its a good role model to go after:D
  12. I think he's looking to use them on his newly aquired 3-door but I could be wrong!
  13. about how long did it take you to do the swap and what all did you need to do it tool wise? Since I'm planning on doing the FT4WD d/r 5-speed into my RX.....
  14. its got more like a hefty plasic frame since the whole hatch is plastic. It looks like you can just replace the glass. Like I said before, if you can stick around school for a bit while I have Andrew come and get me and I can show you pics of it that I just took:D
  15. basically you can get all of it from people on the board. You need a intake from an EA81 that had the 2-barrel hitachi on it. Hell you could just run the stock hitachi carb and they're very easy to work on as well. If that doesn't satisfy your hunger for power, then you'll need an adapter for a Weber 32/36 or a Holley 5200 (cheaper version of the Weber). Like I said, ask in the Marketplace on this board for these parts and people will be able to help you out. It would probably be cheaper then a yard, sometimes not. Just gotta ask:D
  16. OH derr derr derr <-- rides the short bus to school. I TOTALLY forgot you can do it, sorry Bill. Yeah we can do that. Sounds good to me! Oh and how hard would it be to replace the glass in the hatch? I've like never even looked at it but I want to keep the rear hatch with the spoiler and the wiper. Then after that, we can work out a trade for some body help that it needs 9the dent in the roof and there's a dent right in front of the passenger side tail light on the side). Lemme know man! If possible, maybe I can come out there today after school if you don't have to rush off right away:D
  17. the Carter-Weber engines range from the end of '82 to the beginning of '84 but they were mostly produced in '83. My advice, change the carb and the intake. Those Carter-Webers, granted they CAN be good carbs, are the biggest headache you can have. I had an '83 hatchback that I could never get it to run right with that carb on it. If you do that, then you can swap a Weber 32/36 on there and have more power coming from that motor. Also check the vacuum advance like you mentioned at the end of your post. Age eventually take there toll on that part thus making your motor run like crap. Either use a vacuum pump with gauge to test it or pull the line off of the carb and suck on it with the cap and rotor off. If you see it start to move slowly back while you're sucking on it, you have a bad advance unit. I hope this helps!
  18. lol I drove my Brat around with no coils and the rear torsions were cranked down all the way. It was a bumpy ride until you got used to it. Pople would always give me a funny look when I come bouncin down the road.
  19. ahhh the X-wing. Good times, good times........ As for the RX, GO RX GO!!!
  20. now I got parts being lined up so I can swap in a good gas tank and then also the glass which will be needed but its prolly going to go to a glass shop to get it put in. Then a waterpump and a belt and maybe a tune-up if I can afford it and hopefully, just hopefully, it'll be a decent car to get me around:D
  21. well its just until spring and I have more moola and then its going to get cam seals, timing belts, crank seals (front and rear), etc. etc. etc. Its just going to get me from work to home and to my girls house:)
  22. I know Andrew has tha switch in the '85 2wd GL wagon he recently sold. Just gotta scout the yards for cool stuff like that. I know that there is a mechanism inside the hatch which will lock and unlock it with the doors....
  23. I don't see why not since anything is possible with a welder and a cutting torch;) Hey I put EA81 front suspension and vented rotors into my gen 1:D
  24. well I'm planning on throwing a remand waterpump ($21.00) at it, put some water in it and see if it leaks from anywhere. As for the residue being all over the motor, its not, JUST on the up pipe and the small spot on the bottom of the heads where the headgaskets are. Like its not even on the heads, just the gaskets..
