Ok since this RX that I am getting has an EA82T in it (duh) I'm planning on making this thing a major sleeper. I went through searching for someone who has laid down the mods they've done to their EA82T and there wasn't much on them but there have been a lot of people who have done mods to that motor such as SubaruTex, garner, WJM, Dr. RX, Subaru_Styles and many others. Well I want to get some info together of the mods that each one of them has done to their cars and see what is similar and what is different. Also besides a list of mods, give what parts were used to do that mod, price of them, and how long it took to install it, what kind of bugs they ran into, and then the overall outcome ie. "How well did it perform". So lets here the ideas guys so we can make our USRM a little bigger since there has been a lot of complaining about how the new guys don't always use the search function;)

BOB trannyectomy successful, BRAT in recovery.
Caboobaroo replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sounds like you got the game plan all set out. Those sound like the only gaskets you're gonna need....oil pan, valvecovers, maybe a rear main oil seal if its leaking, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, clutch disc, pressure plate and I would recommend getting the flywheel machined if it can be. Just make sure you grease the input shaft of the tranny for the T.O. bearing and the tip of it for the pilot bearing. It also makes it a little easier on reinstalling the engine giving it a little bit to slide on. -
well I'm tryin to replace the auto with the FT4WD D/R 5-speed that came in the RX's cause thats what I want. I don't really want a part time 4wd tranny, I dunno why but the Ful Time seems to tickle my pickle:D stngllhm - if you could possibly hold onto that car until I know for sure that I can get this car, I'll let ya know and we can work something out:)

well I didn't feel I needed to since that was including the price to get it titled into my name. Its not as rough as it looks, the main thing it needs is the glass and it has a couple small dents but everything is fixable with lots of time and a little bit of money. No worries its going to be a bit of a project but it will be a daily driven car until I can collect parts to do the manual conversion to it. At least it has 4 wheels on it and it can possibly be started up but not sure.....

Now the time you've all been waiting for!!!! PICS!!! http://usmb.net/gallery/album288 I know it needs some glass cause inconsiderate people think rocks and windows are fun for some reason but other then that and it missing some of the body kit, its not bad. Lemme know what y'all think of it....all I can say is WJM, look out cause we're gonna be rockin and rollin in this beast;) Oh and it has 209k on the ticker but meh!! Here's a list of upgrades and mods its going to have done to it once I get it running and driving for a little while: FT4WD D/R 5-speed with locking center diff Top mount intercooler TD04 turbo from a Rex custom up pipe and down pipe, catless of course, 2.5" from turbo back Delta cams carbed shortblock Spider intake XT6 Throttle body 5-lug conversion with a 3" drop and 16" Rex rims hood scoop custom black and red interior Autometer gauges (A.F., Boost, E.M.T.) Autometer tach w/shift light tinted windows custom cold air intake BOV and lots of other goodies as well!

Well I'm gonna post pics later tonight since I'm lazy but I can't contain myself anymore. LUVMYBRAT found this in a j/y here and so I went to look at it today and the guy said after getting me a title and all the paperwork, he said I could have it for 150 bucks!!! What do y'all think? Black 1989 RX turbo, FT4WD, 4EAT, gold trim, and AC. Yeah its an auto but who cares?? I can convert it but I mean 150 bucks and all it needs body wise is a couple small dings pulled out and a couple windows like the rear hatch glass, and the rear quarter windows. It will also need a new windshield but its not really bad, its still driveable. I checked the oil, radiator, front diff fluid and it all looks good. He said it might need a new motor but he wasn't sure. I also seen it needs a new AC pump as well but meh who cares, its a black RX!!!! I think its time for the:banana:

5 lug swap: parts - has been added to the USRM
Caboobaroo replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah I thougt it was needed since there have been a lot of people asking about the parts to convert it so I dug up SubaruTex's old post and put it in there:) -
Andrew says that if you buy an aftermarket radiator for it, 90% of them come with a tranny cooler in them already and they run about 80 bucks and you have the insurance that it won't overheat due to a bad radiator since it will have a new radiator in it. if you can't do that, my suggestion would be to get a regular manual radiator and put an external tranny cooler in the car:D

Let me get a T. W. E.!!! YEAH!
Caboobaroo replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hrmmm this would look very nicely on my secretmobile if I can get it.....but all I can say is Wal-mart pays good money:D -
My 78 Brat won't start!!!
Caboobaroo replied to skapickle's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not sure about the 82's Jason but everything from '83 to newer on the EA81 had a electronic disty and it bolts right in. If you need to know how, PM me and I can tell you. I did this swap on my '78 Brat and my '79 wagon and they ran better then with new points! -
OMG I know its an RX but WHY???? Now if it was a low pro spoiler, then it would look better but a metal shopping cart handle on a (I hate to say it) Not extremely fast car.......hmm maybe this kid needs a reality check or something.....or he needs to give his car to a good home *looks in the empty hole in his garage*...

I'm not the EA82T expert by any means but I would have to agree with WJM. It seems like you have a bad intake gasket so it looks fine from around the outside edge but the water passage is leaking into the combustion chamber via the intake. Now to explain why there's water in the oil is because water is thinner than oil, its has moved past the rings into the crankcase which would probably also give you a high compression reading in #4....

as for the parts list that you mentioned earlier Russ, I might be interested in a whole package if I can pick up this black RX I've been eyeing. I wanna put a TD04 on it to give it a little more oomph....

well here's what I've got: '78 Brat Black dash trim 4-headlights vinal seats '79 wagon (4wd) woodgrain dash trim 4-headlights cloth seats I have seen a '79 Brat GL with the tach. It also had this cool stripping package on it that I've never seen before either which is weird. I've looked and looked but cannot find a pic of one, even in the brochures.... Lemme describe it.. It went from the tips of the front fenders back along the doors where the targa stripes came down the b-pillar into it but it kept going back along to the rear where it went and wrapped around the tailgate and met up with the other side. It was about 2" below the windows on doors and stayed there the whole time, didn't move up or down. I do remember that it also had a spot cut out for the tailgate handle if that helps anyone....Does anyone have a pic of a gen 1 brat with this stripping on it? (Sorry don't mean to hijack)

hehehe hopefully I'll be gettin me a black RX too...... I know where it is and I hope to get it for a couple hundred clams:D
-
If I can get this black RX, I'll be game for performace parts:D
-
sorry Bill the EA82 distys won't swap into an EA81 motor. I heard that the advance curves were different between the 2wd and the 4wd EA81 but make sure you get an '83+ disty because it will be electronic

Colorado Subies?
Caboobaroo replied to The Korean's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
well I'm not quite in Colorado but I'm a little drive up the road in Laramie....I have to say that my Brat isn't lifted either but its not stock heigth either... Maybe once either Andrew or myself get another 4wd Subbie, we could pimp on down there:D -
its more of a "sport" low range. I found its still very useful on the streets when racing little Hondas:D
