  1. Ok so I drove up to Andrew's house this morning because we are making a trip to Eugene to deliver parts. So anyways, I get up here, shut the Brat off and the charge light is staying on....I started it again and it went off like it should but when I shut the car off totally, it stays on. Anyone know why?
  2. Well I was takin some pics of some things so I decided why not? SO I snapped a couple pics of the Brat some some of you can see the "progress" (well some of it IS progress, some of it was just for fun) http://usmb.net/gallery/album225/100_0630 Here's the BEAST!!! http://usmb.net/gallery/album225/100_0632 WOAH, whats this????
  3. Ok so I am thinking it might be my jets are too big in my Holley 5200 but I also want to know WTF is this??? http://usmb.net/gallery/album225/100_0631 Its marked by the BIG red arrow:D
  4. heh, I can't wait till people see my Brat when its done:D Dropped on airbags, layin frame down the road, light-up windshield washers, strobes, an RX fin, and many other things to come so does that make my Brat right now a ricer? It has a black hood with a white stripe on it and the car is still brown....
  5. Ok so I think my Holley I bought has too big of jets (crappy gas mileage and excess fuel coming out of the exhaust) so I want to know if a Weber rejet kit would work in it? Mike (Flowmastered87GL) sent a couple Webers and a rejet kit down to Andrew's to have him build a good one for him and I might be able to use some jets from it IF they work....Anyone know? Also I have a fitting coming off of the carb that has a solenoid on it. Is this the bowl vent like on the Hitachis?
  6. there is a guy in Oz that has done a full STi swap into a gen 1 Brat. He has the ful 5-lug conversion done to it but I think one of the things he did was mod the STi crossmember so the control arms would bolt in easier. I did put a set of EA81 vented rotors, control arms and knuckles into a gen 1 wagon. There are a few things different between the EA71 and EA82 suspension. The control arms sit farther forward then the EA71 ones do. Also the struts are 3 bolt pattern compared to the 2 bolt pattern. It can be done but it would take a lot of fab work to do it but the end result might be worth it. The other thing to do is to get the hubs redrilled to a more common lug pattern. Oh and you can also put rear disks on your Brat too...
  7. Look for a gen 2 car. It will have the EA81 motor in it which are almost bullet proof. I have seen guys take cars with these engines and wheel the crap out of them and they run great. Also parts are veray easy to find and relativly cheap also
  8. ok people, lemme tell you what. Someone get me an EA81 car and an EA82 PS rack and I'll put it in. It can be done. Granted you'd have to fab/mod some things to make it fit, etc. but it can be done. I know people on this board doing a lot harder things such as Jerry's hatchbrat or SubaruBrat with his monsterous gen 2 Brat. Come on people, it can't be that hard. I put EA81 front suspension and vented rotors onto a gen 1. I had to spend a couple hours making new stabilizer bars to get them to bolt in but with some know-how and some determination, anything can be done.....Sorry about the rant, but if it don't bolt it, MAKE it:D So to help you answer your question GD, NO it won't bolt in. So what are you gonna do? Get another crossmember to use to fab up your work on, get an EA82PS rack and fab it together. Since it seems no one has done it, be the first to do it. Then people will come to you asking you questions about how you did it and what it took to make it fit. I keep getting people asking me about the eletronic disty swap into my gen 1 Brat. And hey, if yer lucky, maybe one of the mods will put it in the USRM....
  9. so Jason is parting out this 83 wagon. It has power windows on it and I want to see about putting them into my Brat. Is this possible? Has anyone done it before? Does anyone know if they are remotly the same? It would be pretty pimpin if I could do it....
  10. Ok so the day of the Subaru show (Saturday) that a bunch of us were gonna leave, I blew the oil pan gasket out on the Brat I mean like it was gone. So I finally got the new gasket on there and the only thing left for me to do is some tuning issues. I also leave in 2 weeks for Wyoming where the Brat will get the makeover of a lifetime while I go to school. All I have to say is when its done, the only thing Subaru about it will be the body....Here's a list of mods that are gonna come on the gen 1 Brat: solid axle with posi from a Datsun pickup RO custom 4-link drag suspension setup in the rear tubbed bed with nice slicks Datsun pickup front suspension and disc brakes Chevrolet 2.8 v6 MPFI pushing 400rwhp and 12:1 cr Borg-Warner T-5 5-speed transmisson custom driveshaft from transmission to rear end Sparco racing seats 5 point racing harnesses 6 point roll cage 3 point brace where the struts used to bolt up RO custom weld in sub-frame connectors RO custom shaved tailgate with custom hard tonneau cover Here's a list of mods done to the Brat so far: JDM high compression EA71 4" lowering job short shifter electronic EA81 disty shaved fenders, doors, bed rear lexan tinted sliding window There's probably more mods that are either gonna be done or have been done but I can't think of them right now. Some of you are probabl wondering why I'm choosing the v6 over a flat 6 or some other Subaru motor. I was talking to lumpycam at the show and he said the v6 is the smallest v6 made and it fit easily into the Brat. Well I also have a set of twisted wedge aluminum heads for the 2.8 to make it run 12:1 cr. Also, I'm planning on drag racing this Brat and it'll make people wonder what is up with it when they see it burn the tires off like they were nothing. That is the best look ever IMO:D
  11. yes the oil pump seals like what Turbone said. My buddy Andrew (Hondasucks) put a new oil pump into an '86 XT MPFI and it solved the noise. The motor has over 200,000 on it:D
  12. There was a guy in Aussy that put a STi motor into a gen 1 Brat. Anything is possible with engineering. I'm gonnabe putting a Datsun truck front suspension and rear end with 4-link setup into a gen 1 Brat. Then it'll be powered by 400hp 2.8 v6 and a 5-speed for those nice highway cruises:D
  13. but how often do you see 6 STi's for sale in ONE auction?
  14. Thats right!!!! 6 of these babies on ebay on ONE auction!!!! Check it out! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31868&item=2488014992&rd=1
  15. yeah I know the gen 1's have no cats on them whatsoever so maybe you should look into an aftermarket cat or an exhaust custom fit off of an EA81:D
  16. ok here's a good lesson to learn how to do timing by ear/without a gun... I like to pull the disty, pull the #1 plug out to the point where its bein hld in by a couple of threads. I then crank the motor over by hand until I hear a loud hissing from the compression coming out between the plug and the hole. I then look for the timing marks right after the hissing has stopped. If I don't see them, then I know I have to turn it again until I hear the hissing again. Then I would see the timing marks right after the hissing has stopped and set the flywheel so 8 BTDC is pointing right at the pointer on the case. I then drop the disty back in so it points to the #1 plug wire on the cap. Bolt it al back together, hop in and see if it'll fire. If it does and it runs ok, then you can start timing it by ear until she runs good:D I did it on the Brat when I first dropped my electronic disty in until I could get a timing light on it.......
  17. Andrew just paid $137 from Napa for a remand clutch for an '86 2wd XT non turbo....
  18. the PCV valve on the EA71 is on the intake. If you follow the line that goes from the valve cover on the driver side up, it'll come into a tee right above the intake where it will go into the air filter and into the intake. Where that line goes into the intake is where the PCV valve is. It is about 2" high and threads into the intake....I love having no emissions to pass:D
  19. lol ya basically. Not happy with one, sell it and build the other one and still have some money left over to play with:D
  20. yeah but when your brat starts pissin oil out of the oil pan the day of the Subaru show, because the gasket ,which is new, is shot already for some reason.....now it sits in front of Andrew's house awaiting a new pan gasket:(
  21. yes what Morgan said is correct. A little more detail into it though: The AWD is designed to slip inide the drivetrain thus allowing you to drive it on dry pavement without binding from the drivetrain itself. The part-time 4wd or the selectable 4wd is designed to give you better handling in the rain, snow or mud. This setup does not have the viscous couplings inside the tranny and rear end to allow the slipping like in the rex. You can use the part time 4wd on dry pavement but only in a straight line or you will start binding it and putting a lot of stress on your tranny and axles.
  22. the second pic is it. Thats before it was all dirty and covered in mud like it is now:D
  23. yeah but if you look closely in the backround, you see Mudrats RX sedan that still has the 13"s...... but what you don't see is him pulling Zap back out when he got stuck....TWICE!!! Heheheh thought I'd add that in there:D
  24. if I can see more pics of the head I might be able to tell you if it is a regular EA71 head or not but looking at it, it appears to be just a regular EA71 head. I got a couple of these and one set has brand new intake valve seals in them:D
