Well I was searching for mods I can do to an EA81T and I came up with a list of mods I can do but I also have some questions about some stuff. I came across an old thread that Skip had started about more mods he could do to his EA82T in his wagon. He gave a picture of his motor and labeled everything he had done and well here's the link..... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4368&highlight=turbo+mods Now to the questions and yes there is a list so bear with me please:D 1. What are the: "High Boost Controlled Enrichening Valve", "Boost Bypass Valve", "Boost Pressure Control Valve", and the "Dash Controlled Distributor Timing" do? What is their function and what is the purpose for having them? 2. In regards to a lightened flywheel, out of all the EA81 flywheels (2wd, 4wd), which is the lightest to start with? How would I lighten it? 3. LSDs..... could I put one in my wagon with a EA81 manual tranny? I don't think I can because the LSD is a 3.70 and the tranny is a 3.90 but is there any year of soob that had a 3.90 LSD? 4. How much boost should I run? I kinda want to run about 12 or so but I've heard about fuel cut-out. How do I go around this on an EA81T? 5. Radiators... I need to run a bigger rad. in my car but what will fit with minor modification to the core support? I plan on running dual electric fans to help the cooling. 6. Oil coolers. Are they a good idea? If so, I will put one in also. 7. Intercoolers, front mount vs. top mount. Pros and cons of both please! I am thinking of a front mount out of a Volvo. I don't have a bumper and I have also looked at modifying the valence in the front to get more air to it. 8. Igntion, what should I use? Just a regular Accel Super Stock coil? Any suggestions? Now that you've all read my long and exciting thread, I have a few things for y'all to keep in mind when you get a picture in your head about this. I plan on running *2* Chevy Sprint 3-cylinder turbos on it. The reason for two turbos is because I want to do something different but I also want some low end power. I want it to be an off the line car, not really looking for top end speed (helps keep me out of trouble that way:D). Exhaust will all be custom made by yours truely. Any other suggestions woud be appreciated. Thanks!!! Russ *edit* - I plan on porting and polishing my heads and intake. Also addding a boost gauge and a boost controlled fan and water cooler on the intercooler if its a top mounted IC.

Steering knuckle and drive axle
Caboobaroo replied to Russell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is it still on the car? If it is, here's the easiest way I found to do it.... 1. Put the axle nut on just enough to protect the threads for abuse so you don't screw them up. 2. Smack that with a sledge hammer hard until it starts to pop out then once it starts to move, gentle hit it until it you hit the nut. 3. Remove the nut and finish hittin it out but do it carefully so you don't bum your threads. I also found its easy to do it once you remove the other side of the axle from the tranny. Hopes this helps:D -
Like the title says. I'm kinda lookin for anyplace that might sell parts to help hop up an EA81T. I plan on putting one into my wagon hopefully soon if I can come up with some money. But anyways back to my post..... Where can I get like better internals? Better exhaust? Oh and what else could I do to make it better ie bolt on stuff (turbo timer, raised boost, etc) Any thoughts? This car is being used for the street ONLY!!! No off-roading of any kind!!!

man I wish my dad was as cool as yours. He just sits on his butt and doesn't do anything except go to work. I have an $18,000 IROC-Z sitting in my backyard that needs a motor/tranny/rear-end rebuild but he's not willing to help pay for any of it. *sigh* As for your oil pump, its pretty easy. I helped my buddy do one in his old 86 XT. Took us a few hours to do it but it ran so much better afterwards. No more valve ticking nothing:D Hope it goes good for you

if ya look hard enough, you can find all pug yards. There is one like 20 minutes away from me and he has rims up the wazoo. I'm gonna see about gettin a set of the 15" 505 turbo alloys (the striped ones) for my wagon until I can affort to get a hub redrill done for a 4x100 pattern

popping noise under car(not cv)
Caboobaroo replied to iluvdrt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You might want to check your sway bar mounts. Sometimes if they start to come loose, they will make a "popping" noise like you described. Even if they look to be on there, try to tighten them with a wrench. I know I've driven a car with a loose sway bar bushing in the rear and it was making a popping noise too. Just my $.02:D -
All right!!!! Another guy lowering his 4wd Subaru!!! I'm not the only one anymore:D But yeah, to get it lower, put some 2wd xt springs in it. Like said before, it'll drop you another 2 inches or so. I must say, lookin SAWEET man!!! Can't wait to see ya at WCSS6:D

Caboobaroo replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
here's a pic of the front of my wagon. Its kinda ugly in this pic but it says it all.... http://usmb.net/gallery/album209/AUT_2832 http://usmb.net/gallery/album209/AUT_3151 -
pretty nicely actually. I got the whole front suspension dropped out of it and in the process of lowering it. The next step is to finish painting it flat black, pulling the motor back out AGAIN, dropping the crossmember to clean it up real good, dropping the tranny for a good cleaning and painting, new starter, new alternator, new brake pads, cleaned up and painted calipers, springs, struts, etc. Anyways you guys get the picture so now its time to see pictures of it!!!! Finally!!!! http://usmb.net/gallery/album190

yeah I was kinda doin the same thing myself sometime soon. However you do it, it'll add a little bit to the customization of the car seein it already has a lot done to it. Lookin good man!

Generation 1 Subaru Wanted?
Caboobaroo replied to MR1973's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ask Paul (moosens). He might be able to hook ya up easily. He's the gen 1 master on the east coast. If you were here on the west coast, well I could hook ya up with quite a few; anything from Brats to wagons, 2wd or 4wd. We've got a big selection over here but to find a nice one on the east coast.....yeah god luck:banghead: -
1 Barrel Weber/Carter stock?
Caboobaroo replied to SubSandRail's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I KNOW I KNOW!!!! I had an 83 hatchback and it had one on it. It was a giant piece of s***!! It had so many problems and they're really hard to get tuned right. Also, they are gutless. Compared to a Hitachi, it makes your car very gutless. I finally traded my hatchback for my 79 wagon which has a lot more power than my hatchback and it has a 1600 in it!!! So IMO, get rid of it fast and get a real weber or a hitachi, NOT that carb because it has more problems then it is worth. -
'87 Has a 'singing alternator'
Caboobaroo replied to mtsmiths's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
also another cause is the bearings could be on the way to failing. Had the same thing happen on my v6 '88 Camaro. I thought it would be all right to drive down to NAPA and get a new belt and a new alternator. Started pulling out and the alternator froze on me and broke the serpentine belt. -
Ready to see the CLEANEST 70's wagon ever!?
Caboobaroo replied to lastchance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
WOAH!!!! *goes and humps the wall* Thant gen 1 is PERFECT!!!! I wish mine looked like that.....well it will soon:D -
!!BUMP!! Hitachi alt. wont come apart
Caboobaroo replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah you don't need to pull the pulley unless you're removing the front cover from the rest of the armature assembly. It'll take some prying to get the front and back covers off but be careful that you don't damage the brushes, bearings, springs, etc. inside or else you should just go find another alternator. -
Where would this go??? Beer tasting at WCSS6
Caboobaroo replied to Dr. RX's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
yeah I can't stand to have just a "taste" of beer. It has to be more like a nice glass. So basically we can bring our own glasses and the people who don't can use dixie cups:D -
so you can have an LSD in your gen 1 but you have to get it from a Datsun with the same rear end. I believe its an R160 rear end. It kinda sucks that they don't completly match the whole 3.889:1 and the 3.90:1:-\

DEBATE: diff of gen EA82 Heads
Caboobaroo replied to Marck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know Andrew got a set of gen 2 heads from Flowmaster87GL and I looked at the a couple days ago to see if I could port and polish them easily. Well, the water jacket into the exhaust port has a crack in BOTH of them. The passenger side is a lot worst then the driver side but they still have cracks. I couldn't believe it!! -
my wagon has a 3.90 in the rear. It has the tag on it. Mudrat79 also said that gen 1's have 4.11's in them. I wonder what is up with this? Do they really have 4.11s or 3.90s? Maybe someone put a 3.90 tag on my rear diff if it has 4.11s in it. Strange....very strange.....

and when I mean lift, I don't mean an actual lift. The wagon is gettin a new paint job done to it. Startin off cheap but it is look really good. I'm using flat black rattle can BUT since I'm sanding it and putting on a few coats, it is looking pimpin. I got the "new" hood painted, the cowl, and both rear quarter panels done. Next is the doors, then the hatch and the front fenders. Since I'm doin it right, I'm also doin the door jambs by pulling the doors off and painting the jambs. I also pulled the front fenders off and stripped the core support and painted it too. Next I'm pulling the motor and tranny AGAIN and stripping the engine compartment and painting it. I'm gonna put a new undercoat on it after I pull the front suspension and cut the springs to lower it. I then am gonna clean the tranny and paint it the same color as the motor (Ford Dark Blue) and put it back in. Pics to come because the digital camera is dead but I did manage to snap a few before it died:D:headbang:

Hmmm do I need ANOTHER project?
Caboobaroo replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mike, I need a cheap good running car and if this is a pretty good running car, I might need to buy it. I'll talk to ya this weekend about it but I need something to drive until I get the beer wagon goin. -
dude, do what I've done in the past. Even if it has expired tags and no lights, put a tow strap between the two and if you get pulled over, just tell the cop that you just got the car that day and you're just takin back to your house, nowhere else. Its worked in the past with me.....even when I was driving the car home with a friend following me in his car, thats what I told the cp and he let me go. I bet if ya tow it with a tow strap, it'll be all right. Granted you said its like 90 miles but thats what pit stops are for:D

WRX Eat your Heart out!
Caboobaroo replied to subaru420's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I believe Austins wagon is not yet lifted but it does have 15" pug rims on it so it lifted it a little bit but its still stock height. -
Matt, wire it directly to your ignition so when you turn the key to "on" the fuel pump will come on. Thats the easiest and cheapest way to wire it. Then after it goes through the ignition, wire it through the relay so it'll kick the fuel pump on. I've done it before on a 1964 Mecury Comet and it worked fine.
