This is the week to make the oil leaks go away..
Caboobaroo replied to RavenTBK's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes valve covers. Also, it might be a good idea to replace your oil pan gasket if it has oil leaks from there also. I know mine did and it has 375,000 miles on it:D -
brat devil decal, and other sub stickers
Caboobaroo replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've got a buddy that has already had the Brat Boy Devil stickers made. His board name is "the_bull" but he hardly ever posts. He gave me one and asked me if I could sell them to the guys on the board so I came on but no one wanted any. I've still got the sticker, unmounted, and I might be able to get it scanned for ya if ya want me too. If not, I am trying to sell them for $11.00. -
does it smoke white or does it smell like buring antifreeze coming out the tailpipe? I'm not positively sure on how to check but I know those are a couple more symptoms of a cracked head/bad headgasket.
-
I have the same problem on my 86 GL-10 turbosedan. Its the start of a cracked head or a bad headgasket. This is the sign that it needs heads and/or headgaskets. Normally the passenger side head is the ones that crack easiest. If you don't fix it soon, it'll start getting worse and worse to the point where it'll use ALL the water in about 20 miles, overheat and die. It happened to me already and now I need a new head.

air to coil conversion
Caboobaroo replied to speedbump's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ooo Oooo ooo, I don't mean to get off topic here but what are you gonna do with your air suspension now? I am gonna see about putting it back into the 86 GL-10 that Andrew and I got. -
Andrew had the same problem with gettin an axle for his old '83 GL-10. They gave him the wrong one because they had the wrong part #. They had given him the one for an EA82. So they FINALLY got the part number right so now he knows what part number to ask them. But yeah man, I feel your pain.
-
well I have decided to go with an EA81T. Also would I be able to fit a d/r 4-speed tranny in there and use my old 4wd lever? Andrew told me that it would work just like the 08 and 81 Brats that are the gen 1 style that have the d/r 4-speed. I wanna try and make it look stock but of course, it won't be anywhere close to stock:D The Beer Wagon will go: rrrrrrRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW..PSSHHHH...brrrrRRRRAAAAAAAWWWWWW...PSSHHHHH....brrrRRRAAAAAWWWWWW...........

well I hate to tell ya this but I'm not liftin my wagon. I'm actually lowering it quite a bit:D If you're gonna be comin to WCSS6, you'll see why I am but until then, its a secret. So anyways, it sounds like I'm gonna have to do quite a bit of modifying to it to get it to fit just right. Since GLCraigGT mentioned something about an EA82 5-speed dual range, why couldn't I just drop an EA82T into it? Would it fit or would I have to cut the subframe up to make it fit?
-
well if y'all look in the marketplace, I'm trying to get an EA81T for my 79 wagon. I've been told a few different stories on if it'll fit or not. From what I've gotten is it'll fit BUT the steering column will bind on the axle somehow. Mudrat79 (John) told me that BUT Hondasucks (Andrew) said that he put an EA81 into his '77 wagon and it fit just fine. So does anyone else have any knowledge of doin this? I'm also gonna be dropping in a d/r 4-speed behind this turbo motor so I can keep it a manual and 4wd. So, what do I have to do besides drop it right on in?

New 1st gen owner.. knows nothing
Caboobaroo replied to RavenTBK's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is a VERY easy fix. Pull the crank pulley off, pop the old front main oil seal out, put a new one in, and put the crank back on. Its that easy. I had the same problem with my 79 wagon, oil EVERYWHERE in the engine compartment. I haven't fired it up since I did the complete reseal on the motor but if you look in my gallery, you'll see my very beautiful EA71 1600:D http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo62/AUT_2602 http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo62/AUT_2603 http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo62/AUT_2605 I got my full engine gasket set off of the bay of e for 20 bucks shipped to my door:D I just looked for a few days and found it. If you need anymore help, there's the best of the best Subaru guys here:D -

Caboobaroo replied to RavenTBK's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Welcome to the small population of gen 1 owners. I too have a 79 4wd wagon. The only place to get most o your part needs are either EBAY or the dealership. I'm having the problem of getting new bushings for my front end without paying a lot of $$$. They're fun cars when you get them runnin good and from what I've heard, they're pretty good off road too:D The quad headlights means that its probably either GL line or a very early DL like mine. One thing you can do is to convert it to an electronic distributor. Its not that hard, just search here on the board for that topic. If you need any gen 1 parts like fenders, doors, windows, etc. lemme know, I can get them for ya:D Eyesore - this is not always true. My 79 DL 4wd wagon has quad headlights on it and I can tell they weren't put in there after the factory. From what I've gathered, some of the early gen 1 DL's had quad headlights on them -
NEED HELP..... momo adaptors+info for tex
Caboobaroo replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm going to be making my own adaptor out of an old steering wheel that I got for free. I just need to cut it apart and drill some holes for the wheel but I'm just waiting till I can get a nice Grant GT steering wheel:D -
Does anyone know where I can get new bushings for the suspension under my gen 1 wagon? I really DON'T wanna go to the dealership and spend an @$$load of money on them but I need to rebuild my suspension before I lower it and start driving it. Any clues where to get them from? Online part places? Local part stores?

Caboobaroo replied to Do It Sidewayz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that is SICK!!!! Maybe Andrew and I should turbo our Justy:D I just can't wait until I can get an EA81T and make it into an EA81TT.......thats gonna be saweeeeet!!!!! -
well you have a couple options.... 1. You can go find better calipers from another car or buy new ones from a parts house. 2. You can rebuild the calipers yourself BUT is a big pain in the rump roast Some of the pros and cons of the two choices The first is the easiest if you buy new calipers but sometimes it can get pretty spendy. If you were to buy used ones off of a j/y car, they could have the same problem as the ones currently on there. The second choice can be cheaper in terms of money BUT not in terms of time. It takes a lot of time to get them perfect and even the rebuild kits can be a little spendy (less than a caliper but not really worth it) If I were you, I'd go buy some remand calipers, easy and the fastest to get and put back on. Just my $.02:D

Hey, if any of you get in touch with Brian (SubaruJunkie) ask him when he's comin up to Eugene to pick up his parts from John because I need to know so I can deliver his parts to him for his 78 wagon. Have him give me a call at (541) 740-3226. Thanks guys, I appreciate it:D Russ
