  1. go find a T connector and cut a manifold vacuum line and splice it in. Then coming off of the T, connect the line for the boost gauge. Easy as pie:D
  2. check your PCV valve. If its bad, it could be stuck open and you'll be sucking oil into your intake.
  3. Andrew has an '87 hatchback GL 2wd 5-speed sitting in his driveway right now. It belongs to JonOfScio and is currently getting another passenger side head. It has the quad square headlight assemblies in it. Oh and my wagon has quad round headlights in it.......but its a 79:D
  4. a blow dryer MIGHT work and if it did, not very well and you'd be at it 3 times as long than if you got a heat gun. Heat guns aren't very expensive and they pay off in the long run. Mine has paid for itself like 10 times over and thats no joke.
  5. hello and welcome to the board. Well from the sounds of it, it could either be your acellerator pump which is located in the carb or it could be a vacuum leak. I had an 83 hatchback that was carbed and it had the same problem. I took my time and cleaned the carb really good and cleaned out the acellerator pump too. If its the 1-barrel Carter-Weber carb *cough* crappy *cough* there is also a little itty bitty tube that runs from the acellerator pump to the barrel. Mine had a hole in it so it would not get enough fuel and start crapping out on me. If your tube has a hole in it, I have some that I can get you for 50 cents per piece. Also, there is are lots of board members who live in your neck of the woods. I know Edrach lives in Woodinville too and he's a very nice guy to get ahold of when you're having problems. Anyways, I hope this helps and welcome again to the board!
  6. use a paint scraper and a heat gun and a lot of time but in the end, it'll all come off. Once you get the hang of it, it'll go a lot faster. I know all about removing those old Trans Am bird stickers from the hood:D
  7. don't cut up that Brat or like calebz said, there some people that might chop you up.....look out for me cause I might be one:D
  8. well I guess you broke it so you should give it to me:brow:
  9. Hondasucks and I just did a 5-lug on his 87 GL turbowagon and nothing rubs at all. Strange....I know his tires are bigger than his stock ones but there's no rubbing........and his is even dropped in the front and soon to be dropped in the rear
  10. hey Brian, how do you creat your own pic gallery? I wanna put some pics in of my first Subaru (83 hatchback) before Andrew got it. That and I wanna put some pics in of the beer wagon:D
  11. I can attest for the rebuild Corky. I was there through most of it from the teardown to the dyno testing:D
  12. WOOHOO!!! Another Chevy guy:D it sounds like a carb problem to me. Brian, I don't think its a vacuum leak because it would do it all the time, not just when its warm. Me thinking the carb needs a rebuild cause something is sticking in a position when its not suppoed to be when its warm
  13. YAY!!! thanks for the good word Mike. People on my good list... Flowmastered87GL Hondasucks BajaVWsoobnut Edrach Richierich Dr. RX McBrat (still waitin for my gen 1 air dam;) ) there's prolly a couple people I'm forgettin but I do have to give Andrew a big thanks. He was the one that got me hooked on Subarus and I'm lovin it except when I pulled my heads off and I found a bent pushrod:eek:
  14. time to go lookin in the "House of Parts" aka. Andrew's shed:D
  15. for install... got one strong guy like me, under the car and grab the tailshaft of the tranny have someone else stand up top to help "guide" the tranny in with a pry bar the guy on the ground will wiggle the tailshaft around while pushing on the end of the tranny and it should pop right in:D I did this with Andrew on his turbowagon when we put the 5-speed dual range in it. Yeah Mick, I'd have to agree with you, my arms were very tired later that night:drunk:
  16. and no I wasn't out hotrodding it. I only drove it 30 miles sanely while Hondasucks followed me:D
  17. you're right Mark but not all Chevy 400's were like this. Also the 350 was externally balanced and the 305 was internally balanced. It all depends on the motor and the company of it. Can we all tell that I'm a Chevy guy? But like everyone else is saying with Subarus, I've mix-matched parts before and nothing has gone wrong. Just tell the guys at the shop "Its a Subaru thing....you wouldn't understand":D
  18. hrmmmm....all the way to Washington......I dunno....I don't think I can get up there for awhile and I need them VERY soon so I can get this beast running and driving
  19. well Adam I'm pretty sure my valves aren't bent so I'm guessing they went awhile without being adjusted. GLCraigGT, I'll try and get ahold of them on Tuesday and see if I can get a full set of pushrods cause if I'm gonna replace one, I might as well replace them all.
  20. well everything in the head is fine working order, and I'm thinking about tearing into the block to see what I can see. Sorry Junkie, we already looked at the EA81 pushrods. They're too long and they seem to be smaller around too. I'll keep some updates:banghead:
  21. But anyways, here's a pic of my pushrod AFTER Andrew tried to straighten it
  22. Now before I show you the picture of it, I gotta tell the story... I went with Hondasucks to go pick up my wagon a few months ago from the guy I traded my 83 hatchback to. The only way to get it home was to drive it and the guy said it drove just fine. It took a few minutes for the battery to get enough juice to fire and when it did, it had this funny knocking type sound but it wasn't a rod or a main or anything I've ever heard. I pulled out of the guys driveway and it was running just fine except for the knock. I was able to get it home with no problems and of course I decided to reseal the motor. Well today I pulled the heads off to put new head gaskets on and I was pulling out the pushrods and the exhaust pushrod on the #4 cylinder was bent, like it was f***ed up badly:banghead: So now I gotta go buy 8 new pushrods or see if someone has an extra one. Needless to say I'm:madder: :madder: :madder: :madder: right now:temper:
  23. my buddy has a Samari and he made a snorkle out of PVC pipe and ran it up to the top of the cab. He also found a screen off of a computer fan and he put that on the end of it to keep debri out of it. It works really nicely and it didn't cost him very much, just some time and a hole in his fender:brow:
  24. step 1. cut the cat off leaving the 90 degree bends step 2. get a piece of exhaust tubing the same diameter and length of the cat step 3. weld in the piece of exhaust tubing where the cat used to be step 4. put downpipe back on step 5. enjoy all the added horsepower:banana:
