  1. Only one way to know. Start calling around to machine shops and tell them what you're tryin to accomplish. Only the shops can give you a yes or no answer and also let you know if there's going to be some sort of liability.
  2. DON'T PART IT OUT!!! If that truely has the black and red interior, its also known (well what I've heard it refered to as) the pimp interior because only '85 GL-10s got such a thing but it was an option. I've seen a few N/A GL-10s especially '85s. Maybe I can talk to my girlfriend and maybe get this from you....
  3. The wheel in the pic appears to be an EA82 wagon wheel. Make sure you get EA82 wagon wheels for the EA82 car as the EA81s don't clear the calipers properly. AFAIK, Jackman wheels were only offered during the gen 1 stage 2 run in the late 70's. A Jackman wheel has flat spokes, no curves whatsoever.
  4. I blew my last EA82T like that. But it was an SPFI shortblock with gen 3 turbo heads and I had already blown the ringlands off of 2 pistons. Had to end my EA82T run with a bang, literally!
  5. Yup, and Volvo XC70s sieze into the transmission, Honda Passports I rebuild in the truck because you have to remove the front diff and pull it apart to get them out.
  6. I'll be there in either the two cars which I hope to have both back on the road by then. I hope we don't have a bug issue like a couple years ago on Friday night. Holy effin swarm Batman!
  7. Been down the road before man and yes, it does suck. Find your local Mac Tools dealer and get the Subaru axle pin tool (can't remember the PN for the life of me). Last one I bought was under $20 including tax but that was a couple years ago. Its also warrantied for life!
  8. it almost sounds like you have XT6 backing plates as they are larger for the larger XT6 rotors. As for the bolts, its probably because the backing plate is putting the caliper up too high which is why they want to contact the face of the rotor.
  9. Even in the states I'm having issues finding XT6 axles that aren't going to cost me my first born child. I'm going to be pulling some out of mine in favor of some suspension upgrades so I'll have a set of them. The boots are either torn or starting to tear I can't quite remember what. If the price is right I might be convinced to ship them down to you.....
  10. External VR thats located on the passenger side inner fenderwell. Probably let the magic smoke out of it.
  11. I drove the XT6 the other day finally. Went from my old house to my new house. I also moved the RX onto a trailer and towed it to my new house. Now I gotta go get the other RX so I can have more fun. First off I gotta get the XT6 back on the road. Which means... full engine reseal new clutch new timing belts fix the body where someone back up into it install '00 OBS knuckles with new bearings in the front, along with axles and brakes then align it:banana: Only $800 worth of parts for that bad boy:rolleyes: The silver RX is going to finally run, then everything is going to get swapped over into my other RX body.
  12. Speciality Products Company in Longmont, Colorado have adjustable radius ruds for under $100 IIRC. Bolt in and go. I have a set of those and a set of custom made radius rods that I did myself. No pics but its nothing real special. One thing to keep in mind is when you add caster to these cars, it'll start to bind the bushing in the lower control arm and will tear/prematurely wear out and then you'll have another issue to deal with. I have a few ideas for custom control arms but I'm not ready to give out my ideas until I get something built this summer:banana:
  13. Its not hard just time consuming. I fitted 05MY USDM STI seats into my '87 RX. I didn't use the STi seat rails but used the factory EA82 rails instead. I had to weld on some vertical tabs onto the rails with holes drilled into them for the seats to bolt to the rails. You can see in the foreground in this picture, to the left of the spring, one of the vertical tabs thats welded to the rail and bolted to the seat
  14. My XT6. If you have seen the factory color you know what I'm talking about. Paint code "952", which is ruby black mica or something like that. Not the typical paint code "74" which is a straight black. When I wash it in the sun, the water changes the color of the car from black to a dark red. Its super awesome. Only seen one other XT6 with that color. Oh I got another one. A gen 1 Kamei front spoiler. Got it from McBrat like decades ago. Never been mounted and still has the instructions with it. I hope to get another gen 1 eventually, hoping its a wagon. I know where one is:banana:
  15. If its truely an '85 RX trans, ditch it and get something else. The 85 and 86 RX transmissions were a part time 4wd dual range so it has 2wd, 4hi and 4lo. Not a great tranny for the pavement for something with that amount of power. Since its a '90, it has the larger transmission tunnel so stuffing the EJ tranny into it won't be that big of an issue, its just finding the parts to bolt it in. I have a EJ22T, '98 Impreza 3.90 5mt and a 3.90 VLSD in my '87 (soon to be in the '89) RX. The reason for my decision to go with the '89 body is it has the bigger transmission tunnel for future 6mt STi trans swap.
  16. All gen 1 transmissions were a top mounted starter, both auto and manual transmissions. The fat case EA71s didn't come out until the bodystyle change for the gen 2 cars. Now for the 4wd swap into the DL, it'll be a little tough as nothing will really bolt in per say, without some modifications and possibly some custom mounting brackets. If it were me, I'd get the EA81 donor car, use the rear suspension from it and modify it into the gen 1 body. Then use the gen 1 single range tranny since it will bolt up to the engine. It should be a 3.90 final drive in those IIRC but its been a few years since I had a hand in the gen 1 stuff.
  17. Holy cow. Earl, is that flat black Brat with the flares a pic of garner's old Brat with the EA82T swapped into it? If it is, I haven't seen it or heard from him for a long time.....
  18. There's no gasket or seal, its the gray sealer from the dealer and nothing else.
  19. I'm over in the Kirkland area and have quite a few EA82 reseals...
  20. Also check under the MC where it bolts to the brake booster. If the rear seal is leaking, the booster paint will have bubbled up. My RX is leaking there and my XT6 is starting to leak at the hill holder.
  21. In his first post he states he is getting spark so if it is a broken timing belt, it'll be the passenger side. Since you know you have spark and fuel, make sure its good spark going to all 4 cylinders. Also, the next step might be to do a compression test. I had an EA82 SPFI that had no compression on 2 cylinders as the engine was overheated and dropped the valve guides thus keeping the intake valves open slightly
  22. Best way to do it is what I did on my old '79 wagon. I took gen 2 control arms and bolted them to the engine crossmember once I removed the strut rods. Then I made some strut rods that were the same length as the original gen 1 and welded them onto the gen 2 control arms while most of the weight of the vehicle was on the control arm. I bolted on EA81 knuckles, ball joints and the gen 1 struts. I also used the vented EA81 brakes and calipers. It was fairly simple and not terribly hard to do. I ended up using some heavy steel round stock a little bigger then factory, put it into a lathe and machined the threaded end down, then put it into a vise and made some threads. Here's a couple pics...
  23. Holy crap, Keith is back! Haven't heard from you since I was still in Wyoming bud! I've got a little collection going again. '89 XT6 that I got from the original couple, sold it to Turbone a couple years ago, bought it back and since it has been in "our" possession, its won best XT 3 years in a row. Also got my silver "RX" and just recently got another black RX:clap: Good to have you back. I was wondering what happened to you not too long ago and was hoping you still had the RX and the sedan!
  24. I've been toying with the idea to make some front control arms that will bolt into an EA81 but have the ball joint taper from an EJ. Maybe make them a bit wider so the EJ axles could work..... Also had the same idea for the EA82 and make a full custom rear subframe and diff mount, so then I can bolt EJ stuff directly into my car....
  25. I have '05 STi seats in my '87 RX. Took about 5 hours total for fabbing the EA82 rails to the STi seats.
