I had a B&M T-handle on my RX for awhile. I now have a STi titanium knob but if someone wants the T-handle, let me know since I have no use for it. Oh and I have a 12mmx1.25 die Mike:-p

Timing Belt Kit...ebay?
Caboobaroo replied to Major Lazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got one these sets awhile ago but was kinda lazy to put it on. I pulled my motor a couple days ago for a quick reseal and decided to slap the new belts and stuff on. Next day, I ended up driving it down to Oregon (about 260 miles one way) and back the following day and never did I have any problems. -
Impreza steering column into an EA82?
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Ok so I'm still planning on doing a RHD on my car. One of my buddies has a JDM connection and can get me a front cut for $2k for an EA82 car and I have to wait 8 months to get it. RHD RX? For $2k, I can do other stuff but I'd have the ONLY RHD EA82 in the states.... -
O2 Sensor Seized Wont Unthread
Caboobaroo replied to mykingcrab's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you're doing the heat and crank route, this is what I'd also do. After getting the 02 sensor nice and hot (almost cherry red would be ideal), take the heat away and spray some PB Blaster on the sensor itself to help cool it down faster then the bung. This causes the 20+ years of corrosion to break apart due to the 02 sensor shrinking when cooled and then it'll start to turn more and more. The heat gun won't get it near hot enough to get it to do that unfortunatly. Propane torch or a small rose bud tip on a oxy-acetylene would be best. -
Rebuild Thread - 1979 Brat
Caboobaroo replied to Gyoas759's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
You might want to have the alternator tested first before throwing a fuel pump into it. Gen 1s have the fuel pump tied into the alternator/external VR system so if either one of those is bad, then the fuel pump wont kick on unless its cranking. Then it'll run for a few seconds until the bowl on the carb empties, sputter and die. -
You might want to see about getting an EJ rear subframe and modify the body to accept it if you're not worried about fabrication. Look into a '03 and up WRX rear subframe since the diff bushings are much better designed. Then you can make custom lower control arms for the rear to make the stance any size you want. It would be a lot of work and probably require the bed getting chopped up and a custom "subframe" made welded to the unibody that the EJ subframe can bolt up to. If you need alignment specs, let me know, I have access to them all, plus any sort of aftermarket alignment pieces you might be interested in:banana:

New to me 87 RX (horay!)
Caboobaroo replied to audio_file's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My last EA82T build (there have been a couple), I was running an SPFI shortblock with rebuilt gen 2 turbo heads, OEM head gaskets with new headbolts, Delta 260 cams, spyder intake, WRX TMIC, TD04 turbo, Samco intercooler hoses, AEM cold air intake, Megan Racing 3" bellmouth downpipe, Nissan 280ZX turbo injectors at 388psi on the fuel pressure. Did awesome until I gave it too much (12psi on the TD04 with really no fuel management) and blew the rings on two cylinders. Decided on this to do it right and go with a turbo'd EJ instead. So, more on the 3-doors. All 3-doors I believe have the rear wiper. My '87 GL has it, I've seen it on all the other ones I've seen throughout 5 states. Like Tex, if you do some searching under my board name, you'll come up with a lot on EA82Ts. I also have lots of pics of my old RX build and the new one at that. Congrats and welcome to the EA82 3-door club! -
Front tires getting chewed off 85 GL-10

Front tires getting chewed off 85 GL-10
Caboobaroo replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Gloyale has it. Wearing on the outside edges on the older Subies is from the toe being excessivly pointed in. Since we have positive camber on our car in stock form, it will wear the tires much faster with it being toed in. My advice, get an alignment done like, now. You can help it with using a tape measure but it will keep wearing them on the outside edges unless its set to where it needs to be. -
Impreza steering column into an EA82?
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
My dad's a mailman! But he sits at the post office at the desk helping people, not delivering:-p Yup awesomness is what I want to achieve but there is always a fine line on the "mental" side from time to time:lol: -
So I've been thinking again which can be bad in some cases but talking to a buddy of mine, he thought it'd be cool to make my car RHD using parts from the EJ front cut that I'm going to be getting (one of these days when money grows on trees again). So can anyone tell me how the EJ steering column compares to an EA82 column as far as length and how the universal joint in the column connects to the steering rack? I'm not too worried about the hole in the firewall and such since I know I'd have to modify the firewall on my car to match the donor car. Its just a wild idea that probabl will never happen but its just something I've been pondering for the past couple days in the back of my mind.

Weird noise from rear end, thunk thunk thunk
Caboobaroo replied to subieman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Pull the bearings out and check to see if there's any discoloration or marks on them. If there is, replace but if not, repack and try it again. Basically a bearing pack is labor but the bearing replacement is kinda expensive. Did it on my RX and the bearing retailed at like $120:eek: -
Ding ding ding. This is the key. EA81T power steering pump bracket with the EA82 pump on it. The bracket difference between the EA81T and the EA82 is the fact that the pump has to stick out to clear the timing belts where as, the EA81 has none.

Turbone's Brat has very similar rear end damage to it. Nice score though. Cheap Brats are always fun. I traded a '87 Justy for mine which is sitting in Wyoming currently:rolleyes:

Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm only going like 2" at most to give me some more fender room for wider tires. Gotta fit something bigger when the Brembos go on:-p -

No crap son... So I figure this finally gives me an excuse to go widebody on it. I imagined doing the same thing after I did my widebody conversion and it made me wanna cry. -

Nice yeah next time I'm down there, I'll make sure to swing by. I'm pretty sure I know where your shop is since I used to drive north of town on 99 a lot. -
EA82 5 Lug Swap - with notes and variations
Caboobaroo replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Unfortunatly Chris, there are many different ways to do EA82T builds, 5-lug conversions and so on. What makes then different is what parts people use but everyone goes off of the same basic list of part or modifications to do it. This is why there is no "one page" for it but numerous posts from people who "want" to do it. If you see most of my 5-lug tip responses, I always direct them into the USRM where I wrote (with Tex's help) the 5-lug conversion list. That is the basis for most of the converted Subarus on this board. Now there are different renditions to the 5-lug conversion that people have discovered like different EJ parts to use and so on but thats why I think we need to add it to the one already made, not try and start another 5-lug conversion thread. Also if we can keep it the same mostly between the few other old School Subaru boards, it will then help promote new discoveries with what can be done with the conversion. I'm all about promoting uniquness but when I get at least one PM a week asking about 5-lug conversion help and what works, I tell them to search the Retrofit forum and I hate telling people to do that. So Gary, if you want to get together on this, I'd be happy to help out and help get something together for everyone here and on the XT board. -

Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The Potenzas wouldn't be too bad but they're not that good of tire to begin with, then add a couple years of them sitting around before I put them on and the rubber isn't as soft as they used to be. Well pics finally:rolleyes: -

Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok so EVERYONE is on the same page, my car is technically NOT an RX BUT it is minus the EA82T. The whole drivetrain is from my old '89 RX so it has the RX gearbox, rear LSD, complete 5-lug conversion with XT6 swaybar up front and RX swaybar in the rear. Springs are the ebay Impreza coilovers and they are way stiffer then stock but I do have blown front struts (I <3 bounching:rolleyes: ). I also have WRX rims with the *eek* Potenza RE92s which I also factored being part of my problem. Tex, all I remember about the corner is the fact that is was sharp, with the guardrail on the left hand side of the road (outside of the corner). Matt and Art both know where it is:-\
