SUBERDAVES DYNO RUN!!! old run new video...
Caboobaroo replied to suberdave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nice Dave. I'm ready to swap my car because I want it to sound like that (well it already sounds like that but lacks the power)... PM coming your way! -
Will an EJ20 or EJ22 fit in to one of these?
Caboobaroo replied to kiwi subbie's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
SOHC EJ will fit with like 1/2" of clearance on either side by the frame rails. Tailgatewagon mocked one up into a gen 1 stage 2 car and came up with the final measurment. Yes, lots of tranny tunnel beating is required to get it to fit right and the engine crossmember will need the engine mount holes ovaled out to fit the EJ mounts in there. -
So since I've been a member of this board (July of '03 was when I joined) I've owned numerous amounts of older gen Subarus (anything from my '78 Brat to my old '89 RX). Lately with the job paying pretty good, I've been looking at getting an older STi to drive as my other "STi" gets some goodies (EJ20G, better suspension and Brembo brakes). Anyways, I've found one in the area for sale, its an '05 in OBP with a few upgrades but has been meticulously maintained. Here's the rundown posted by the current owner over on NASIOC... For Sale: 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi 27,300 Miles on odometer Obsidian Black Pearl w/ Gold BBS wheels This car has been meticulously maintained, never smoked in and oil changes done every 3000 miles with Mobile 1 synthetic. Rear differential and brake fluid recently changed, along with brand new tires. All maintenance up to date and car has undergone a recent complete mechanical inspection. Professional detailed and maintained since new, no accidents and clean title. Car is in great condition both inside and out. Add a turbo upgrade, exhaust and a tune and this is a 360+whp capable car, supporting mods are already there. I will miss this car but I have bills to pay. PM me for more details. $24,700 FIRM Modifications: • Custom Tuned ECU • Perrin Alchohol Injection system (installed but not hooked up) • Bushur Super Duty Fuel pump • TurboXS Custom Front Mount Intercooler - Stealth Black • TurboXS Blow-Off Valve • GPmoto ShortRam Intake w/ larger MAF housing • GreedSpeed Turbo Inlet pipe • BC Racing Coilover Suspension • Perrin - Front and Rear Sway Bars • Perrin - Front and Rear End Links • Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake lines w/ Motul RBF600 • Hardwired for Radar Detector • Kartboy Rear Subframe Outrigger bushings • Whiteline Rear Subframe Locking bolts • Tic Rear Diff mount bushings • Hella Supertone Horns • 18% SunGard Tint & windshield strip • Subaru All Weather Floor mats • Infinity Kappa 6.5" front door speakers • 2006 WRX black carpet • Worx Tuning Hood Struts • 2007 STi Front and Rear seats • Floorboard Dynamat (sound deadening) • Autospeed Performance Dead Pedal • STi short shifter • Kartboy shifter bushings So you think this is a good price for the lower miles and the upgrades? Some of the ones I've been looking at are about $4k less and all stock with higher miles. So its time to go talk to the bank and see if I can get the loan for it because this is EXACTLY the color combo I want on an STi...

I've got a collection of FSMs going too... Got a complete set for 1986 and 1987 (6 volumes, 4 books each), the 1978 manual, random ones from 1974 and the 1972 FF1s, and soon to have one from 1983! But of course, I collect them for informational use since I tend to do a lot with Subarus. Anyways, yes in the FSM, your car is classified as a hatchback and the EA82 coupe is referred to as a 3-door.

Here's a pic I've been keeping thanks to Mr. Skip

Jason, I'm right up the road from you in Redmond and have LOTS of EA82T experience. Check the vac line going to the wastegate on the turbo. Make sure its plugged in. Also check for a crack in it as well. I have a boost gauge we could put on it to see what kind of boost its putting out under load.

pickings getting slim?
Caboobaroo replied to pheonix165's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How far are you from the Seattle area? I know at Les Schwab we actually have some 13" tires in stock (cheaper brands) and are very reasonably priced. -
And the EJ20G

Better get her in touch with Noss, he'll fix it:lol:

I've got a little fessin' up to do.
Caboobaroo replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
WTF? Why did I get a call? I tend to go up to Reiter pretty often with some of the guys at work (stock Bronco 2 with some 30's, a stock S-10 Blazer, a couple Toyotas and such) -
Replaced axle = vibration?

well if I end up eating a tranny, then I guess it'll get me more motivated to get my EJ swap done:-p -

nope no sunroof either. Gonna check to see what it is when I get back from my parent's house in a couple days and hopefully I can figure it out:rolleyes: -

Well checked everything else and its all tight. I think I'm going to deal with it since I leave tomorrow right after work for a 4 1/2 hour drive to my parent's house. -

Nope no spoiler, never came with one. I'm thinking it might also have to do with the fact that the carport I park under is open in the back and I usually back in and its on a slight incline so the car is pointing down the hill. Add in the slight rake due to having to adjust the coilovers up in the back for snow tire clearance would make it so water would be able to seep past the seal. I'm going to check it with my spray on deodorant (the white stuff) since spraying that on the hatch (or door or trunk) and closing it will result in where the seal is actually hitting. I'll be able to see it on the seal since it'll put a white residue on it to show its actually hitting the hatch (or not hitting it). -

Thats what I'm gonna do since it was too dark to see anything really. An easy 30 second deal tomorrow since I gotta look at my front end again. -
Replaced axle = vibration?
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm leaning to the axle since it didn't start this until AFTER I put the new axle, brake rotors/pads, and new radius rod bushings in. Then I gave it an alignment and voila vibration. I check out front ends and rear ends for a living since I'm the head alignment tech at Les Schwab in Redmond so I made sure (especially since its my rig) that I checked everything. I put new ball joints, inner and out tie rod ends in this setup when it I originally built it for my RX. Old axle made clicking and popping sounds but no vibrations (split boot had mass amounts of mud mixed with the grease though:-p ) -

Weatherstripping looks to be in good condition however it IS a little flat. Maybe I'll put some thin oil on it to see if that helps. Antenna is like any other EA82 car except the XT, on the driver A-pillar. -

I've had the tailights out before and I know they're sealed up good... car is 99.998% rust free (except that one small spot on the inside of the dang hatch! ) -
Title says it all. Opened my coupe this evening to grab my tie down straps out of one of the side undercarpet cubbies and there was 1/2" of water. Same on the other side. Carpet under my sub box is wet along with the wood that covers the storage compartments. I haven't yet pulled out the FSM to see where/what could be causing water to get in but its annoying, stinky and well, plain wet. Any ideas?

A couple days ago, I decided to finally replace the RF axle in my car since its been clicking and making noise for oh, 4500 miles now due to a busted boot. So I replace the axle with a NEW one from a local parts house along with doing some front brake work and some new radius rod bushings I've been putting off as well and now my car feel funny. Since the strut has to come off to put it in, I had to realign it as well, no big deal since thats what I do everyday. Get it set ot where I wanted it and now it has a weird vibration. I can feel a slight vibration at lower speeds but it really does it when I'm doing about 40mph around a long right hand turn, not left. It almost feels like the wheel is going to pop off all of a sudden. I made sure everything was tight before aligning it (axle nut at 165 ft. lbs according to my book at work). Currently running some cheap Les Scwab alloys with my 205/55R16 Hankook Ice Bears on it. Any thoughts? Is my new CV possibly bad?

Wanna see what neglect looks like?
Caboobaroo replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Kinda what I'm thinking. The reason why its "neglected" is because Ken dropped it for the XT6 rally car, then onto the Impreza, not the fact that its neglected in a "beat up and rusted out" way. It looks so sad sitting there collecting pine needles -

Well as far as I know, its still Ken's for the most part. I believe there was another board member working on trying to get it though;)
