  1. I've been lazy... I still got mud covering my coupe:grin:
  2. Maybe the typical sports car couldn't hold all 6 highschool kids when they wanted to go joyriding:lol:
  3. Kids these days... all about the forced induction:-p Superchargers work off a belt driven system. Also, its a lot easier to put a supercharger (like a turbo) onto an FI setup unless you have some awesome capabilities to get it to work with a carb (is done on old muscle cars). Gotta add more fuel with the added air you're stuffing into the engine. So tuning is another major key and with carbs, you can rejet the carb to add more fuel or go with a bigger carb. Two different styles are a draw through and a blow through. Blow through is pretty self explanitory as far as the air gets "blown through" the carb(s). The draw through draws the fuel/air mixture through the carb and pounds it into the engine. I have seen a couple of Subarus with s/c's on them. One was a '90? Legacy L wagon with the stock EJ22 and a Eaton M30 supercharger on it (I think thats what it was anyways) at WCSS6. I've also seen pics of an STi that some reknob in Colorado did but he left the stock turbo (all disconnected and bypassed it somehow?) and put on a crappy supercharger setup. So yes, it can be done and has been done but tuning comes along the lines of a turbo'd car. More fuel for more air and the a/f ratio has to be pretty spot on or else, lean conditions which equal pre detonation or rich conditions which fouls everything (plugs and 02 sensor), puffs black smoke and gets fuel past the rings and into the oil. If you want a good book (and I advise this for anyone wanting to learn about forced induction) get "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell. One awesome read but it focuses more on turbos then superchargers.
  4. I'd be down for it but it would have to happen on a weekend on later in the afternoon on a weekday...
  5. IIRC, the MAC tool number is LT-730. I actually have two which is nice and when I swapped my 5-lug and my RX box into my coupe, it made it sooo easy, eaier then anything I've done in the past. Plus it has a nice grip on it too when your hands are all greasy...
  6. These are the original set of Delta 260 street cams for a turbo EA82. They worked awesome in my RX until I blew it up (twice). Something seems to be off somewhere Andrew...
  7. Umm, thats an '83 or an '84 wagon. The '82s had a single sqaure headlight on either side. Good find though!
  8. ok here's another thought to throw into your pot... How good are you with tuning carbs? I remember you having some issues with the Hitachi and tuning a Weber will be easier but it will still need to be tuned right or else hesitation, poor gas mileage, etc. The SPFI on the other hand, is a basic drop on and go with very little tuning (like timing) but nothing else. If it were me, I'd go with the SPFI over the Weber if you don't feel comfortable with tuning it and get frusterated with not being able to get it tuned right. It took me foooorever to get my Weber tuned and jetted right om my '78 Brat but when I got it, it would smoke the rear tires off without even thinking about it:burnout:
  9. I loved how Saturday morning, we had to go up and rescue the stuck guys from down south. That was fun especially when we couldn't find them:rolleyes: I wish someone would have gotten some pics of me playin around in my car but eh oh well. Next time I won't forget to take my camera. So Rob, when we gonna go play in the hatch again?:-p
  10. and I *think* I still have a stripped wagon body.... Free!
  11. Look at the way he answered this question... Q: Hi I have a -86 brat with a ea81. Is this all i will need to convert it to injection? will you ship to Norway? thanks A: This came off the last of the three main bearing subarus, the ea82. To convert an ea81 to run this you would need the ecu, wiring, fuel pump and diagrams to do so. I do not know about the intake even fitting an ea81, however similar they may appear.I have heard of ea81 injected, but it is a different scenario than an ea82 where this came from. He needs to think about using less drugs, or getting on some:rolleyes:
  12. As I tend to say... You're only young once but you can be immature forever!
  13. whoops, I slept most the day.... Happy b-day Zap. Hopefully we can have another get together since I'll be starting graveyard shifts for a week on Sunday night:rolleyes:
  14. There's a trail of dried mud that runs down from my carport, all the way to the entrance of my apartment complex at Avondale. You can see where I drive everyday, the dirt is spread from my apartment complex drive to Target's parking lot:lol:
  15. Ugh, I HATE the desert down there. I remember one summer loooong time ago, my father and I were down there visiting my grandparents and we had to take Hwy 138 IIRC to get to San Bernadino.... what a hellish drive that was. Glad to see you guys got home ok though!
  16. Welcome back Lumpy! Good to see you again. I won't ever forget seeing the blue Brat at WCSS6 with the 2.8 stuffed into it... awesomeness....
  17. I had a blast just doin cookies with my coupe on the mudflat and rockin up and down the hill... Who says lowered Subarus can't go have fun in the mud too:grin: Also, I wasn't present at a couple of shows in the past but I heard that there was also a swap meet type of deal at one of them. Be great to have people bring parts and such to try and sell. I know I'm in the market for a new set of rims.
  18. Meh, I've done a reseal on an EA81, had it in and out of the car in the same day, running, with time to spare:-p Need help, lemme know. I got weekends off now:banana:
  19. Yeah I almost got on him when I seen him post this ebay autcion over on Nabisco.... Then I decided that it wasn't worth the amount of energy to type...
  20. Tming is spot on, right at 20 with my green connectors together (like the FSM says to). Radiator IN the car is the stock one but I have my other radiator in my garage with the fans and STi cap on it. Not really supposed to work on my car here so maybe I can convince Ed to let me borrow some driveway space for a few minutes. Just to let you guys know, I've put about 1500 miles on this swap and like I said, this is the second time this has happened to me. Got no bubbles in the radiator so headgaskets are still good. I get paid tomorrow and I'm going to be getting some more parts for my car (timing belt tensioners, Seafoam, fluids, t-stat) so maybe I can swap in my new radiator this weekend as well. Also, how much would the STi pink radiator cap effect my cooling system?
  21. So car is an '87 EA82 SPFI coupe, FWD 3AT -> RX FT4WD swap. Engine is stock EA82 SPFI (and I mean totally stock, even has the stock intake piping in the fender). When I lived in Laramie, it started to get a bit warmer after driving it for a few minutes, then blew an upper radiator hose. Fixed that and was fine since. Coming home from WCSS9, I noticed a little bit of pinging before I pulled over to get gas. Noticed after getting off the freeway, it was boiling coolant out of the overflow. Let it sit for a few minutes after getting gas and got back onto the freeway, with the heater on. Haven't had a problem since. I'm leaning to a bad radiator cap but I'm unsure of it. I have a brand new 2 row radiator, dual electric fans, and a brand new STi radiator cap. Sound like a logical problem?
