Colorado Coupe photoshoot?
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
that means you might wanna get that TPS fixed:-p So this weekend I'll be painting my RX bodykit OBP for the coupe, mix up a gallon of paint for the coupe itself, and install my coilovers. I should have the car close to ready by the end of this month hopefully. As for a date, I'm thinking the weekend of the 14th and 15th in April. We can narrow it down to a specific day but I think that should be a significant amount of time for my to get my coupe ready with some new shoes as well. -
Enough of this sissy talk and just DO it! Sheesh you wanted to do an EJ swap a year ago, maybe more? Then it was back to the EA82T:rolleyes: I wanna see results now!

I believe they've been using a stock EJ driveshaft thats had the front section shortened to work with the longer case of the EJ tranny.

Not sure what to do
Caboobaroo replied to SubaruWagon87's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Now it also depends on the years of vehicles you're looking at. I know even a 2000 Blazer, get in a minor crash with it and the insurance company will total it... -
Colorado Coupe photoshoot?
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Sometime in mid April but no real specific dates yet. I'f I hurry, my coupe will be sporting a new paint job and painted bodykit but I need to get it running first before I can pull it in and start prepping it. I was going to see about taking the second week in April off for my paid vacation and to clean my shop so I'd be down for that week or surrounding weekends. I'm off most Saturdays (this coming one is not one of them though) and all Sundays. -
Since I'm not going to be able to make it to this upcoming Redrocks meet, I was thinking about getting a few guys together for a photoshoot. I was thinking about EA82 coupes and RXs BUT I bet we can slip a few XTs and 6s in ther as well. Who would be down for this? DrKrazy? KBD? Jeff? I wanna have one more meet before I leave the area for good and kinda hoping it would be the older gen crowd. What do you guys and gals think?

wow, guess I should get my fleet on here of what I have left... or still... 1987 Subaru GL coupe, FWD 3AT, SPFI EA82. Got it for $100 a few months ago and the body is in premo condition. Blue interior which is getting changed to black. Currently is in the process of complete 5-lug conversion, RX FT4wd d/r 5-speed tranny swap, 3.7 rear LSD, turbo engine crossmember for later plans, WRX 16" alloys, RX checkerboard seats, short throw shifters, Pioneer DEH-P7700MP deck, Kicker Comp VR 12" subs in a Q-Logic box, Kenwood Excelon 1000watt amp, RX bodykit painted flat black, ebay coilovers, 2-piston front calipers and a few other odd-n-ends. Future plans include an EJ20G swap, EJ AWD 5-speed with rear VLSD, STi hoodscoop, tinted windows, STi interior bits like seats and such, and a few more odd-n-ends. 1978 Subaru Brat DL. Yes, its a shell but its getting the body worked on right now. Has been media blasted and is in epoxy primer. Plans? I don't know yet.... Return to stock? Maybe with a few upgrades... 1989 Subaru RX. Its another shell! Plans? Hoping it'll be gone this weekend... It had some major mods done to it but I kept blowing it up so when I got my silver coupe, this was done for. 1979 Subaru 4wd wagon. Its not a shell but its missing half the front end and its in Oregon. If someone wants to get it, you can have it for free, just go get it. I have a title and everything for it. Plans? If its still there when I move to Washington, she's gonna get the work done to her I was wanting to do waaaaay back when I got it, like 4 years ago.

So I got the instrument cluster out, swapped to my black center console, and swapped in my checkered seats. Tomorrow I'll be putting in my RX instrument cluster, speedo cable, pedal assembly, clutch cableand a few other tid bit items. I'm shooting for Wednseday to get the crossmember swapped over to the turbo one, front 5-lug and possibly the RX tranny in and mounted. Then I'll have to make a mount for the carrier bearing, give the car an alignment and swap engines to the new SPFI engine. Hopefully I can get it done Saturday so I can take it to the big Redrocks meet on Sunday.

The final days of the RX...
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Because in 59 days from today, I'm moving to Washington which is 18+ hours away and I can only take one car with me. My '78 Brat is going to be staying here and maybe, one day I'll come back to get it. The RX has just had so many issues since I got it and having 3 different engines in it and only driving it like 100 miles... yeah its a done project. That and I've got another EA82 coupe that is in a lot better condition to start off with then my RX. And yes Erik, I think you're one of the very few who actually saw it run. I have a vid on my computer of one of the first times I ever fired it up but its nothing special. -
The final days of the RX...
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah a few;) Not too many but there's not really too many parts left.... -
So these are the final days of my RX... well in MY hands at least. I have given up on it and moved onto another EA82 coupe. I know its going to be going to a loving home so hopefully one day, it'll live on and the new owner has less issues then I have had with it. Good luck. Idling and radiator problems HELP PLEASE
Caboobaroo replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you need a radiator, I got a used EA81 in my shop. I got an acutal radiator box that I can put it into and ship it to you for the cost of shipping if you need it bad. -
Yeah I gotta roll under the RX and take a look at what is exactly going on under there. I was thinking about making a mount and I probably could BUT I don't know if I'd wanna risk it, especially driving it 18 hours on the interstate and then getting lazy and reusing it for my EJ20G swap:eek:

This is not a true RX. This is a GL turbo coupe which are fairly rare. You could get a coupe with all the same options as the RX but it wouldn't badged an RX but just a coupe. Subaru_styles has a G55 turbocoupe which is an RX but like I said, not a true RX...

the way the fuel pump is in relation with the tank will basically bleed itself. the fuel pump is just about the same level as the fuel outlet on the tank so when gas is put into the tank, it'll push the air through the pump while the pump runs so it'll only run air through the pump for like a second or two. Just cycle the fuel pump a couple times and then you should have fuel up to the intake.

So the past few days I've been working on removing some stuff from my RX (there'll be another post on that later) and decided to started swapping it over into my coupe. Yes, it don't run... yet but since I have sourced an engine I just have to wait for it to get here, so I might as well do other things right? So today, put the coupe up on a lift at work and ripped the complete 2wd rear end out of it. In just a few hours, I had the 4wd rear end from my RX into it... I still have to get the SPFI engine, RX FT4wd 5-speed d/r tranny, turbo engine crossmember, front 5-lug, driveshaft, checkered seats and a few other little items before I'll be happy for the time being. She ain't gonna be fast but it'll get me around! I do have one question though... for the carrier bearing since this was a 2WD car, what should I do? There's no mounts for it underneath that I saw!

Intake manifold bolts... yeah...
Caboobaroo replied to DerFahrer's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I have used helicoils on many gen 1 heads before. I just made sure to put a punch mark right in the center of the old bolt before I started to drill. Then just retap, insert coil and voila. You can also use the intake as a guide if need be to drill out the old bolt before stepping up to the larger bit that the helicoil uses. -
Will you're crazy:-p

Hood Pins... Cool or Rice???
Caboobaroo replied to suberdave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it was a stock car, then yeah, it would be more ricey BUT with everything that has been done to it, helps set it off that much easier:-p -
