  1. you need the following list and I might not have everything you'll need on it... EA82T engine with wiring harness and ECU any EA82 FI fuel pump (SPFI, MPFI, MPFI turbo) fuel lines clutch and flywheel EA82T crossmember exhaust instrument cluster IIRC and various odds-n-ends inside the engine compartment to make things work that fucntion with the engine. To do a swap like this I would highly recommend a parts car that has the stock EA82T in it to save you headaches of trying to round up certain parts to make it work.
  2. ok well here's the link to the pics... http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2552184850067339125wwlmha http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2904742040067339125nkqhts http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2545513100067339125GoUbmI
  3. Thanks to a fellow board member, LUVMYBRAT, my '78 Brat is getting some love and attention that it has been lacking since i moved to Wyoming. It is currently a shell of a car but it has been media blasted and covered with a black epoxy primer to prevent rust while sitting outside. Maybe one of these weekends, Bill (LUVMYBRAT) and I can get together and get the bodywork done on it since its pretty minimal except for the core support under the battery tray. Here's a few pics of it as of 2/27/07...
  4. those go into the front of the cam cases around the cams Here's the ones you need... http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/wizard.jsp?year=1989&make=SU&model=LOY--001&category=All&part=Cam%20Housing%20O-Ring&dp=false
  5. no it won't because the nonturbo EA81 stuff is VERY hard to come by in a decent condition. I actually have thought about using the hydrolifter EA81 I have in my garage instead (woo extra set of gaskets FTW!) since it has the bosses for the EA81T powersteering bracket, just need to be drilled and tapped. I also have a helicoil kit, lucky me;)
  6. Because the block doesn't have the mounting holes as the EA81T.... It's all the same though between the EA82 and EA81T... At least as far as I know..
  7. well drat... I do believe I can get the bracket and stuff from the EA81T but I got a fully resealed EA81 NA that was going to find a new home into my coupe. Looks like its time to rethink and reengineer the EA81 a little. New brackets for the alt are looking to be the only way and possibly a redesigned powersteering pump...
  8. I'm not having much luck in the retro forum on here but I do have a question about the EA81T powersteering setup. I know its like an EA82 setup but I noticed the bracket that bolts to the top of the block has 3 bolts in it, just like the EA82. Now I'm putting an EA81 NA into an EA82 coupe that has powersteering. I was wondering would it be possible to bolt the EA81T powersteering bracket to the EA81NA block? The EA81 block I saw only has 2 bolt holes which look to be the holes for the alternator bracket.
  9. Thanks Mike, I'll have to figure out where all these yards are again since I'm probably going by myself...
  10. So all these people viewing it and not a lot of input on it. Oh well. Time for a couple questions. First off, I've seen an EA82 powersteering setup on an EA81T but what should I do? The car stock has PS and the RX rack has PS as well. The AC compressor I'm just planning on taking out, along with the lines because I don't plan on using AC in Washington. Heck, I never used AC in Oregon! So any thoughts, comments, opinions on if this setup is going to work or not and how I should do the PS because its something I'm NOT getting rid of, I'd like to have it when the EJ swap comes around....
  11. Mike, I forget what thread it was in but I have that EA82T part time d/r 5-speed if you want it. let me know and I can see about leaving it with Phil or Jeff this coming weekend...
  12. Talk to McBrat, he has an ad in the vendor forum of the Marketplace for reproduction decals.
  13. Did you get my text earlier today about the new intake on its way? Talk to me on AIM!
  14. I have found that even ASE certified mechanics can be someone "dumb" when it comes to our cars, not trying to put down your brother in any way. Its a head or a headgasket issue period. If he wants to argue about it being something else, by all means, have him join and give his $.02 cents Today, we actually had a Loyale SPFI wagon come into the shop with a busted timing belt. The mechanic who is ASE certified, worked on it ALL day and STILL didn't get it running. I was going to give him some pointers but he was all pissed and told me to leave him alone. So much for him doing it in 45 minutes...
  15. I have a 2.8 but its in my Camaro and it hauled butt! I actually got a set of Trickflow twisted wedge aluminum heads for it though:-p I can't wait to see how this turns out!!
  16. The XT6s didn't have a mechanically driven powersteering pump. They have an electric powered power steering pump up on the firewall and it uses a special Subaru only powersteering fluid which is like liquid gold or so they say. Thats what the cyber pump is...
  17. ok so here's the main plans for the car before I move. The car is going to have the EA81 engine, the complete SPFI setup that is originally in this car, my RX 5-speed, turbo engine crossmember since its modded for the 5-lug and I'll need it later down the road when I do the EJ20 swap into it, plus all the 5-lug crap that I have. This also means that I'm going to be putting the full RX rear suspension setup into it, rear LSD, and the 5-lug in the back. I'm basically setting it up for my EJ swap in the future but for right now, it just needs to be driveable. So, in all reality, this is more like an SPFI onto an EA81 sorta thing. I believe that the engine will bolt to the tranny but I got a spare EA82 tranny laying around that I can test it on if need be. So besides the disty, what other mods would I need to do to put the SPFI onto the EA81 thats going into my coupe?
  18. go for an '89 GL-10 turbo 5-speed, those will work...
  19. Sheesh.. outta town... now THATS a lame excuse. By the way, this might be my last trip to the Denver area before I move so for all those who care! I'll be there...
  20. When I started cleaning them up, they were black inside and out, due to a blown front main seal on the engine @ 4000 rpms... The main reason I figured why the oil did this is because.. A) The oil was never changed when the engine was swapped from the original car ('81 2wd wagon) to the '85 Brat. It blew the front main on me on my way to work one morning and I towed it back to the house and swapped the original hydrolifter EA81 back into the Brat. Also this was helped by driving at high rpms for about 50 miles (like 4500 rpms). This would help heat up the oil enough to start solidifying it around the hot exhaust port. As for the Castrol GTX, I have never had any problems and I ran it in my JDM high compression EA71. All my other Subaru engines (turbo) have had Mobil 1 5w30 in them. This engine will be getting Castrol GTX 5w30 in it for the drive home...
  21. I got an aluminum parts washer at work which they headed into. I was just trying to get some of the mess off of them to clean them up better.
  22. So I found some pics of the EA81 heads I cleaned up for an engine I resealed. *WARNING* These pics are not for the queesy or for young children.... Click on the pics for a larger view of them. The last pic is a before and after of a quick headgasket surface prep. The head on the left is still all dirty when it came off of the engine and the one on the right is after about 5 minutes and a red scotch brite pad... All of the black gunk came from the center oil passages on the bottom of the heads, the ones that go around the exhaust ports.
  23. Bump bump. Engine "might" be going in either today or tomorrow but I have to get my car back into the shop... *sigh*
  24. So using car-parts.com, I was able to locate one at Blakes Small Car Salvage in Denver. Looks like next weekend I'll be heading down to pick it up... anyone wanna come? Hang out while I'm there? Hit up some yards?
