Subaru Coolant
Yo'J replied to ktdenali's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I would say check the hydrocarbons in the coolant for exhaust leaks and the water pipe over the top for leaks as air could be getting in and , seriously, lift the front end up and make sure there is no air bubble sitting in that waterpipe. If you hear water in the heater lines, its a bubble. Some people have posted that they fill from the top rad hose first then the rest of the rad. I really don't know if your engine has a coolant pipe under the intake manifold that is separate with o-rings, like on my 22 that just had a bad HG, and not part of the block casting. I hear that can pull in air there, mimicking the signs of HG failure. I could smell the exhaust in mine. Good luck! -
What For? Welcome to the Board! This place is quite something! I got an 87 brat w/ an ej22 w/5spd trans I'm sorting out, but, I love my 82' lifted wagon and I was going to ej that, but, its my dd and the timing wasn't working out, maybe I have plans when the brat is done..... The wagons got 4wheel discs, 5spd trans, 2"lift on 27s, weber carb, and ea82 rear coils, home made roof rack w/ no rear seats. (drives like a lincoln overloaded (monday)and bounces down the highway empty (saturday). Love it!) Why would you sell that, Mugs? Thats like my dream carpentry wagon.
-
It needs a gallon can of carb cleaner but sure. I've been in one a few times. might be able to pull my narrowband f/a meter and stick it on there for a basic idea.

Now you know how I feel after getting all that swap work... sort of done, I suppose, and I find a blown head. Its fixed now (as of today) but still has the same problems. But now it throws codes like a ************************** on crack!
-
Nice work so far! Glad to see some progress! You'll be passing in no time I'll bet! That red 81 hatch on 15th is cool and drives. Its got some rust on it though. I don't know if its a board member, I haven't ever seen it on the road or an owner, just seen it move a lot over the years as I'm just down the block. There is a nice looking blue wagon up by judy foos on 15"aa rims, on the board too, but I don't know his board name.

Power comes from somewhere else like the rest of the dash lights. The cel wire gives it a ground. Like old fashioned house wiring where the switch was neutral and your bulb is always hot.

I just got a full 4 corner kyb gr2 kit on amazon for $143 w free shipping!:banana::banana:

The ej20t won't fit between the rails? I thought it would. You could put an aftermarket turbo on an ej22.... Nice score! I put a 22 in my brat/brumbly w/ power steering and an ea82 dr5spd, its quite the go cart. Turbo would be nice though.

Waterwagon 3 Build-up, and the SJR+EJ Lift Thread!
Yo'J replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Members Rides
^^ Oooh Yeah! Now that is funny! -
Hey I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw another one pulling up the street yesterday! Red STD, young guy driving. Yours is way cleaner though! Crap I love the front grill! Well, for the price the ea81 isn't that bad of a step up. Its a bomb proof motor especially if you get an 85 or later with the hydro lifters. (I'm wondering about yours though, is it a rarer ea71 motor? did they upgrade the lifters too?) I'd think you would get traction problems with a 2wd ej hatch. Did you get the weber?

I wont sound like a nike ad or anything but I would love to see new things and cool pics! This is why I love this site! Suspense, drama, action! Ya'll r fun.

Oh I should also include that things you have other people do should be included in your estimate (like having a shop do your exhaust). I don't have a bender or welder on hand. That is something I'm in for.
-
So for me $3000 was spent mostly on upgrades as well as the prices you get charged in the big sh*ty. The extra costs are also in fuel line stuff like a surge tank and all new lines, so that all is very dependent on your base platform. To say the price of solder, electrical tape, a donor car and dremel wheels for completing a full ejswap is not really accurate. I'm sure its feasible, but.... I will also disagree with anyone over the price of hoses fluids and maintenance items. Just because of the availability of cheap cars with the conditions they come with. (a bad auto failing and driven into the ground and sold cheap or ignitor (or what have you) failure due to rear impact. ) You just fix the stuff you find in need of fixing when the motors out. Who would put new t-belts on an ej with a weeping water pump? It has to be done and thats part of the cost. You cant say "I'm not including things like__________" because you spent the money on your swap. What are you in for, is the question.

So Really, how many started a ej swap and never finished it
Yo'J replied to bheinen74's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I'll bet you'll have it going if you have a good DMM and a new thread. Mine took testing everything under the hood, redoing the tbelts, then finding the power problem. We narrowed it down pretty far and pulled a temp power wire, used a wire nut as the switch for the switched power, straight from the battery and bam! FIRE! I pulled start power from the black ignition wire for switched power, realizing it was hot switched too,and not firing the starter, as the blue? wire was dropping to 9v during cranking and was just shy the 10v needed for the ecu. So everything was right but I didnt have 'just enough' juice. I think we all could start this car with you being the hands and eyes and the "computer" being the brains. The collective power of the USMB is amazing! -
"Re: So really... how much?" How lucky are ya?
-
I got some ea82 wagon springs on my wagon (ea81) to trade you for the sedan springs! Its my dd so it would have to be a quick swap.
-
When you all post your junkyard prices, it keeps reminding me how expensive all our junkyards are. Without an hour+ drive you cant find anything!
-
I thought they were Jackmans. When did les schwalbies put out a 4x140?

Wow, and thats 24yrs old? Is that a garage queen or what? Good score!
