  1. Are your current injectors gray or red? If they're red, then there's no point because they flow the same. The big Frankenmotor thread on NABISCO doesn't mention any injector upgrades that I recall. I'd imagine you'd have to swap ECUs or run an S-AFC, which sort of ruins the point of the Frankenmotor. Jacob
  2. Well, if you tear it down and find something, please share it with the community. I'm curious. Jacob
  3. Maybe you should clarify your goals/budget a bit for us. My Brat has enough torque for me and my budget, but the best thing for you could be simple routine maintenance or a Duramax swap, depending on your goals/budget. Torque breaks things. If you want it, though, one very cost-effective option is to look for my Frankenmotor thread on this forum. My Brat's frame creaks and groans now because of the torque, and the brakes, suspension and transmission all need to be upgraded to make it less dangerous. Fitting the DOHC heads in a Brat is harder than fitting older SOHC heads. Also, if you're serious about torque, you'd be foolish to not get some torque cams from Delta Cams. The drawback of having 4 cams is that you have to pay them twice as much. Jacob
  4. Sorry to hear that. My Frankenmotor is still running strong. I couldn't go back to a 2.2 now. What torque sequence did you use for the heads? Jacob
  5. Darn, I thought for sure http://www.cars101.com/oldsubaru.html would have weights, but I don't see any. http://autos.msn.com usually has weights, but I'm not sure if they do for older cars. I just looked at a '90 Loyale on there and got a bunch of NAs. Jacob
  6. Yeah, I guess I was a little myopic with my first comment. The real best snow vehicle would get me out of work and give me a big pile of money and beer:lol: Jacob
  7. I disagree with all of you. The best snow vehicle ever would have some sort of apparatus for clearing out the retards in front of you. It took me 2 hours to get to work today thanks to them. Jacob
  8. Yeah, like I said, it was fun. Putting me in the "Pro" class was a little messed up, though:lol: Jacob
  9. I went to this a few years ago. Their classes were screwed up, but it was fun. Jacob
  10. Did it take you as long with this customer as it's taken you to make me a skidplate? Jacob
  11. I think I see what's going on here. It looks like you said you got seals at McGuire. You don't get the wheel seals at McGuire, just the bearings. You get the wheel seals at NAPA or whatever. Am I following you right? Jacob
  12. I'm not sure if I'm going yet. I may have a chance to get the Brat painted around that time. If I can make it, though, sure. Jacob
  13. We should organize a tour, kind of like a wine tour, but to go to some of the best sheds/piles in the Northwest:lol: Maybe top it off with a trip to the Subaru only junkyard in Gaston. I've seen almost all of the great piles around here, and nothing compares to John in Gaston. GD's is more organized, though. Jacob
  14. Lolz. I saw Yo'j's post, and I was just about to post in here and say that I've witnessed you talk on the phone, eat, smoke a cigar, and drive a stick. I scrolled a little further, and you beat me to it. Jacob
  15. I got some from Rockauto for substantially less than $50. It's on my list of best no-brainer things to do to a Brat. Jacob
  16. The way to avoid this is to cut the part of the strut that holds the brake line. That way the brake line can come off of the strut and not be disconnected from the caliper. Hopefully that will avoid problems for someone next time. I didn't see you mention bleeding the master cylinder, so I'll remind you to do that too. Jacob
  17. If you're like me, then the first time you do them, you'll struggle to find a good source of bearings. GD, some other Oregonians, and I all use McGuire Bearing to get bearings for way less than what an auto parts store charges. There's one a little south of you in Seattle. Make sure to get 4 bearings if you want to do both front corners. Jacob
  18. My work is blocking your pics. I have a spare STI trunk in Obsidian Black Pearl, if you think that would work. Shipping would probably suck, but I'd be up for a trade. You forgot lifted truck, which is the majority of jerk-offs around here. I'm guessing 15-20 times, depending on what kind of roads he was on. Jacob
  19. I don't get it... https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=sites&srcid=ZGVmYXVsdGRvbWFpbnxhc3ViaWVuZXdiaWV0dW5pbmdndWlkZXxneDoxMGYzM2M5NjBlYzY3ODI4 Jacob
  20. I did a pretty fierce amount of research and asked some of the gurus on NABISCO before doing this. The general consensus is that you can do it either way you want. I opted to not drill partly because I didn't want to compromise the integrity of the gasket, and mostly because I didn't want to eff anything up. I only know of one Frankenmotor failure, and I remember when that guy was experimenting with turbos and superchargers on that same block. This was back before the kind of advanced engine management we have nowadays. Jacob
  21. That's weird. He posted that in September, 2008, and I swear I sent him mine after that, although I could be totally mistaken. If I am, then it's too bad, because I was happy with his work and speed. Jacob
  22. Shawnw did my wiring, and I was happy with it considering the pile of garbage I sent him. Is he one of the three you contacted? Jacob
  23. Nice. Another addition to the Frankenmotor army. If you plan to ever touch the gas pedal under, say, 30 mph, then you'll want the AWD transmission:banana: My work is blocking your pics. Are you doing the swap to the Brat in your avatar? Jacob
