Oh, gotcha. I have no idea about mounting rear EA82 stuff on the front of an EA81. Putting an EA82 spring on an EA81 strut is the same as putting a stock EA81 spring on an EA81 strut if you have an ok spring compressor. Jacob

EA81 turbo springs will drop the front a bit. EA82 turbo springs are like my RX springs, and they'll raise the front a bit. People with lifted EA81s have put EA82 stuff on the rear. It makes the rear stiff and tall. Jacob

I'm not sure if this will be helpful, and I'm pretty sure it won't answer any of your questions, but here's what my latest iteration is: I'm running 2WD KYB struts up front with RX springs. This gives me more stiffness (around 30 pounds/inch more, IIRC) and keeps it around the same height. 2WD struts are about 2 inches shorter, and the RX springs raise it about 1.5-2 inches. I didn't notice a change in height, but I've noticed that a few of the speed bumps and potholes I hit regularly feel a bit better. I'd be hesitant to run anything more than, say, 200lbs/in on stock struts. I've read that they can't handle that much spring. Fortunately, the RX springs are like 180 or so, so I'm safe for now. Interesting. Did you notice any difference in handling/feel? Jacob

Interesting find on the EMPI parts catolog

Interesting. I don't recall seeing that in the catalog when I looked about 1.5 years ago. I wonder what the tradeoff is. For example, is the heat resistant stuff less flexible or durable or something? Or is the only tradeoff the presumably higher price? Jacob -
Yeah, that's the closest to a closed 2.5 that I know of. LeoneTurbo's advice still holds regarding making sure the coolant passages line up. I think I remember the EJ257 coolant passages being pretty different than previous blocks. Jacob

Oh yeah? Well, my POS Subaru is more Subaruific than yours:mad: Lolz. J/K. Jacob

Are you sure about this for an EA71? I had to lengthen the crossmember holes on my EA81. Jacob
-
Fixed it for you:lol: I was actually thinking you could get a ride in Scott K's Lancer or Andy Sharples' RS-T so that you can say you've ridden in a turbo car before. Jacob

If you read the whole thread, I think you'll see why I posted it. If not, To make it go even faster, maybe you should try pounding the firewall with a hammer so the gas pedal will go down further:lol: Jacob

I don't think the OP has any closed-deck EJ25s in his country. Thanks for making all of us drool, though:) Jacob
-
Oh cripes, Andy, you need to start coming to the rallyxs again. Jacob

Ugh, I try not to disrespect other Subaru drivers, but sometimes it seems like they're asking for it:rolleyes: Jacob

Your Brat's down? I thought you would have replaced just about everything on it by now. Jacob -
Yes you did...17 hours after my post:) Jacob

Help Please! - Direct Front Brakes Swap

It's beyond my skill to mount newer calipers to EA brackets, so the only thing I can contribute is to mention that rockauto.com has calipers for about $30 USD each. Do you think that new calipers and disconnecting the e-brake would fix your fluid draining problem? Jacob -
I doubt anything was wrong with it when it first went in. I think different people just have different ideas of speed. You are correct in that he asked about an EJ18, and you did tell him what he will need. I think a friendly suggestion of some alternatives is not detrimental to his project. Jacob

I've seen 120 in 5th gear and had 6th gear to go, but I'm running an intercooled (and water-sprayed) STI at 17.5 psi. It was also uphill, both ways, in the snow, and I didn't spill the water or damage my dad's tofu I was delivering. C'mon guys, let's get back on topic and try to help this guy. Jacob

That angle grinder setup is the only thing aside from a new windshield. It's not easy to remove glass. You could try some kind of filler, but it would wash away quickly. Jacob
-
Yeah, that's the thing I was thinking of. It seems high-risk to me, but I don't use an angle grinder very often. Jacob

I thought it just happened once. Or did you get smart after that and keep more gas in there? Jacob
