  1. assuming you're keeping it longitudinal and having a second xmember to support the tranny, it'll be fine. if you're going all out and going transverse, you'll probably want to beef it up for the tranny weight aswell....but it doesn't sound like you're doing that... biodiesel? or WVO?? biodiesel isn't an advantage over anything, unless you're trying to support the farmers and such...it's at least as expensive, and not as efficient. WVO is just as efficient as regular diesel, and typically free
  2. yep, they sell all sorts of kits, and I bet just got some mixed up....
  3. my '92 legacy y-pipe fits almost perfectly, I just had to bash a little on the heat sheilding on the back of the piping right by the ports on the engine side to keep it from hitting the crossmember....but that's into an EA82
  4. exactly, that's why this thread is filled with speculation, and individual experience. even when handled on an individual basis.... that said, I think 26-27s would be a safe bet, and doable with minimal work. 28s-29s would be possible, but with more damage, and still not garaunteed. also, keep in mind that tire sizes vary from tire to tire. a goodyear 205/70/r15 will probably be a bit different than a bfg one in the same size...and the swampers are probably bigger with the big lugs than the claimed size.
  5. I would imagine it would be the same as replacing stripped lug studs on a 4-lug app. pound 'em out, then pound in new ones....
  6. I'm fairly certain that's the exact same source I got my set from.....I had no problems.... sorry to hear it!
  7. too many variables, how much trimming/beating, adjustable suspension or not, worn springs/torsion bar, etc.
  8. Sweet! keep us updated, in a month or 2, I'll probably be up for 2
  9. I did it, mostly because I just didn't want to unbolt the flexplate with it all still attached, and yep, just used a comealong, and pulled them apart, they actually come apart pretty easily (or did for me...)
  10. if you can't say something nice...... Sarge, it's a pretty legit question, just ignore these guys. it really doesn't get asked too terribly often. anyway, I've got a buddy with an EA81 hatch, that had quick and easy access to 29" swampers and 15" chevy steelies, so he cranked up the adjustable suspension, drilled out the wheels, and mounted 'em up. he ended up completely removing the front fenders, which mostly solved the problem, but they still rubbed a bit on the firewall. but I don't think he could cut enough off the back to keep the fenders from cutting up the tread. so...to answer you're question, probably 27-28s....
  11. possible? I've got a FWD 4EAT from a '92 legacy listed on CL right now, and I had a guy email me back saying he'd like to have it to replace his AWD 4EAT.... is this possible? I know there's wiring and such for the duty C stuff, so it definately wouldn't be possible (or easy anyway) to do it the other way around, but what if you just didn't connect them, would the FWD wiring plug into the AWD harness? just maybe with less pins....I dunno, I'm mostly thinking out loud here. I also have the TCU, so if the wiring is the same, he could maybe swap in the control unit and get it to work....
  12. I've only had my EA82s up beyond that a handful of times, and they were all downhill and without A/C...
  13. they didn't make them, the distributed them for 88hatchmonster. you can still order them through him. check for a link to his site in either the vender's forum, or the large thread here in the retrofitting forum about the swap.
  14. well, I've tentatively put this on our schedule. but it really depends what's happenning with school, and work (and I don't even have a job lined up yet for fall).... but I'd LOVE to go, it looks like you guys had an awesome time, just judging from all the dents on the poopenvagen!!
  15. yep, 80s and early 90s jettas, golfs, rabbits, foxs, etc. had 4x100 but older ones, like the beetle, karmann ghia, thing, vanagon, etc. had 4x130 I tried some wheels off of a buddy's porsche 914 (essentially a beetle with a different body) that he was parting out. and it's quite close, but you would need to modify them to get them to fit, and they don't fit on the hub, so you've got nothing to make sure you've got it centered.
  16. looks sweet, I'm loading the video now... Jibs...don't you get hassled for running around without a front bumper on there?
  17. Most of those that have them, got them from the factory. I put one on a car that didn't come with it. just measured it about 6 times, held it up to make sure everything lined up. and drilled 4 holes all the way through. then put long bolts and nylock washers on the back. worked great! it's been on there for about a year now, lots of time at ~75mph.... if you do it that way, make sure you cut off any extra bolt...otherwise it'll hack up your weatherstripping :-\
  18. I can't tell...what is that? I've gotten it off using pedal pressure before. our yards don't mess with brakes.
  19. agreed...sure it isn't just a GL hatch? if it is, lifting it is MUUUUCH simpler
  20. That's the spirit!!! Show 'em what's what! knightrider, your options are where your seatbelt, or eat windsheild. the car absorbs the impact quite well, if you're strapped in, you'll do just fine. not really anything you can do about it
  21. you want my opinion?? HOT!!!!! makes me want to do that with my pugs!
  22. just thought I'd add that Andy's switch will work with stock gearing, and mildly bigger tires. but Mudrat79 ran an Early EJ series Auto with a divorced Tcase behind it and much bigger tires (I think they were still only 33s though), and it needed substantially more modification to handle the torque a guy here in MN welded the center diff on his 5-speed, and ran it in RWD. so I know that could easily be done but, if you're going offroad, I'd HIGHLY recommend an auto, if you have the choice
  23. that would do it. my '94 legacy made horrible whining sounds, then my uncle cut the alt/PS belt (it was crap anyway) and it went away. turned out to be the PS pump
