Head Bolt Torque Specs
Numbchux replied to KickAssFlash's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
first off....this should go in the old gen forum, and will probably get moved....but you'll get used to that. Here they are, as promised: -
25 spline front axles.....where?
Numbchux replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
wait....any EA82t with a 5-speed?! even FWD? calebz, if the FWD ones work, I'll have a pair from the junkyard for cheap.....but if not, or if the car isn't there anymore, what do you want for yours? -
OK, pretty much the last thing I need for my RX tranny swap into my loyale....the axles. so turbo subarus are pretty rare, even in junkyards around here. so I would like to know which models will have these? is it just all FT4WD 4-cyl EA82s? or did some PT4WD cars have them? yes, I searched, couldn't seem to think of any search keywords that didn't get me 85 billion threads to sort through....
-
+eleventy-billion and KickAssFlash's mustang is quite possibly the fastest car I've ever ridden in, either that, or his brother's mustang......or my buddies ver 4 STi swap He's at a dyno day this morning, and is going to pick up an '88 GL Wagon that needs some engine work this evening. Don't worry, he'll have that jeep sold in no time
-
A buddy of mine has an aftermarket turbo timer on his 2.5RSt, it shows his speed, so I suspect yours has the same option, but since there is no electric speed sensor (that I know of anyway ) this option just isn't available on your XT.

Heat. it sounds like you got the inner side off the diff, but are having trouble with the outer side. which, btw, unless you've converted it, is a CVJ, not a DOJ. anyway, if you heat up the metal right over the stub, it'll expand, and come off easier. Mapp works quite well, Acetalene works better if you have access.

What a night..Project Cheap *Almost* gets stolen
Numbchux replied to DrKrazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
goood doggy!! why would he still one of the only lifted subaru sedans in the country.....an incredibly high profile vehicle??? Was your RX there? that would've been a much better target! -
he's talking about his Jeep......he just follows me and fishbiker down the trails and wishes he had a subaru

What do I need to get functional cruise control on a '92 Legacy?
Numbchux replied to 79er's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
oh yea, probably, the one we did was an auto, so it wasn't an issue -
What do I need to get functional cruise control on a '92 Legacy?
Numbchux replied to 79er's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
we just did this with my dad's '92 legacy. It's SUPER easy. all the wiring is already there don't forget the brake pedal switch. we forgot that, and it won't work without it. -
I do have a 2" diff shim, but it's in the front, it doesn't effect the clearance by more than a 1/2" I think the answer is those accord springs you're running. When I had my rear extensions adjusted for another inch or so, it was all ground clearance, but that was before I had the diff shim, so it killed one axle, and wounded another....
-
4" AA high clearance lift 28" tires a bit over 12" at the front xmember almost 13" at the rear diff 3" BYB lift 29" tires 11" front (big skidplate that covers the y-pipe cuts almost an inch off of that) almost 12" rear both '88 EA82 wagons

94 Legacy GT wagon alloys on a 97 Legacy wagon?
Numbchux replied to SubiPilot's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
the lug pattern is the same, the only question is if it would fit over the brakes. check the third number in the tire size on those tires, and on yours to find the diameter of the wheels, if it's the same, or bigger, chances are pretty good that they'll fit, if they're smaller, you might want to try them first. -
thanks for the vote of confidence man.....but I highly doubt that is true! There are some amazing drivers here, especially those out in Washington!
-
my buddy had a return line welded onto his oil pan for when he added a turbo....so it can be done I'm soooo protective of my oil pan, it can really keep my abilities limited, cause I'm worried about doing that to my oil pan, or worse
-
don't forget soobme/TWB! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47904 and do a little research before you send Mudrat any money.....he's been banned because of his business practices... lifts: http://www.ozified.com http://www.sjrlift.com http://www.alliedarmament.com
-
that's a great story and all......but in Minnesota anyway, it's a felony, and you could loose the vehicle used.
-
I reiterate: the FAQ is no longer stickied....I don't know why, so I even did a little searching for you: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24980 there's a search button near the top of the page

yea, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get those from you next, but I'll be in touch... that's a great idea!! we should do that!

lifts for old subarus are blocks, it's a body lift. you can't get more than an inch or so with just springs, and that's through tougher springs, which will cause substantially worse performance offroad 4-lug subarus virtually never came with 14" wheels in the US (I only know of 1 set for sure, but there's probably a couple more) camber is not adjustable on them. unless you go building yourself custom longer control arms, which would need longer axles, and probably longer tie rods I have one wagon with 3" of lift (not including tires), and another with 4". both running ~28" tires. if you're getting serious at all, 3" is not enough! good advice on the motor.....but for an EA82, that's WAY too much money, if you're going to spend that kind of money/effort.....do an EJ swap. if you don't want to put that much work into the motor, start removing stuff that doesn't work/you don't need. A/C, mechanical fan (as long as you have an electric one, and the rest of the cooling system works fine), DONT remove power steering, the previous owner of one of my wagons removed the power steering on it, and I hate it. for a car that's built to be maneuverable at slow speed, it's crucial. also, make sure it has a good ignition system, do the whole thing, coil, disty cap and rotor, wires, and plugs. it'll help alot.

I'm in Minnesota. We only have 1 public place....the rest is private land.

Well, Morgan doesn't own a subaru anymore. Archemetis is arund, and theoretically still owns 87 subarus (sure seems like it anyway), but is not a regular online poster... your best bet is to join the MNSubaru club ( www.MNSubaru.com ), There's usually stuff happening on there, if nothing else, the weekly firestone meet in downtown St. Paul, I'm usually there if I'm in town. woa!! holy simultaneous posts!!! yea, I know morgan would come, and so woud austin. Just as long as it doesn't conflict with the open house in Gilbert on the 20th. and I'm planning to have lots of 'garage' days in May (though they probalby won't actually be in the garage hehe). I've got a few big projects in the works for when school gets out.

Sweet82's on the right track, but I don't think you need to get a different car. If your loyale is pretty solid structurally, and if you're ready to be doing a lift, and other modifications to your subaru, a transmission swap is pretty easy. Find one out of a '85-'89 Wagon, Sedan, or Coupe. Non-turbo. Should be part-time 4WD, but not the pushbutton, it'll have a third lever (regular shifter, ebrake, 4WD), Just like a truck or Jeep. It has a 2WD (FWD in this case) setting, a 4WD Hi setting, and a 4WD Lo setting. this lo range is key in getting those 4 little hampsters under the hood to turn big tires when on the rocks (or whatever it is that you're wheeling on). THere is a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section here in the Offroad forum, it lookes like it got un-stickied, so you'll probably have to search for it. but it has a TON of information, compiled from many of our members posts over the last few years. Beyond that, just hang out, read virtually everything you can. There is a ton of information here, and no definate answer to your questions, so you'll have to look around, and decide what you want to do. The three options for pre-built lifts are all very comparable, it's not like jeep lifts, where some give better flex, while others just look good, Subaru lifts are all virtually the same, price and availability are probably the deciding factors in any of them.
-
just tell them you're willing to accept that. or, find one that's based more on an internet forum, like the MN Jeep club. They're real informal, but a great way to meet people, and find what there is available in your area.
-
based on what?!? so you've seen them in action, but ever followed one down a trail? neither solid, nor independant is superior in everything. they both have their advantages, and disadvantages. but back on topic. yes, roundeye, it's been discussed. but usually with toyota IFS stuff, not chevy. AdamNDJ was in the process of making an adapter to mate the toyota front knuckles to the trailing arm in the rear of the subaru, so the diff, and axles could be used. until he got called to duty....search for it.
