I tried very extensively to disable this....to no avail. I found that everything relatively accessable will also disable the power locks. the only way is to either pull the cluster, and pull the bulb. or put some electrical tape over it (just a large piece in the general vicinity on the plastic cover will do, my latest wagon came like that) though if you find a way...I'd love to know it!!

oh yea, all the carpet is torn out of both of my wagons.... I like your concept of the container over the disty, but it would have to have a pretty small and low opening to combat the water effectivly. I've had problems (with a brand new OEM subaru disty gasket) in water not nearly deep enough to actually submerge the disty, but just splash up on to it. however you decide to do it, bring some paper towels/kleenex in a plastic bag so you cna dry things out. and if you're not getting any spark from the coil, it could be the crank angle sensor in the bottom of the disty, if you get really mucky water in there it'll gum up the sensor and you won't get any spark at all. That turned out to be my problem up at iron range offroad...

85 Automatic 4x4 question
Numbchux replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it's more like a torque converter. 100% of the torque goes to the front. and the rear goes through this clutch pack. it doesn't have to be a stay on the pavement, but it's not going to be doing anything real serious. Right now you've got essentially the same setup as an EJ 4EAT AWD tranny with the Duty C locked. it's pretty strong, but the rear output will still slip under full load. the lack of gearing (single range, IIRC 1st gear in a 3AT is higher than a 5-speed) is a larger detriment to the 4WD system... -

that's right....thanks for the correction -
85 Automatic 4x4 question

it's a vacuum actuated clutch pack....slippage happens....but it's hard on it, so it shouldn't be used on-road, or in RWD like a D/R.....and less-than-ideal for offroad, since it's not quite true 4WD -
Anyone suxxessfully installeda mechanical..
Numbchux replied to Mykeys Toy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my '85 had one when I got it...but it leaked, so there was alwasy a puddle of oil behind it. so I just got a new electric sender and made the one in the dash work.... but yes, it can be done -
not sure what the rules are on suspension. but I would say you'd want Outback suspension, or maybe aftermarket for the outback. a 5-speed, and a built EJ22 N/A, but I'm a little biased towards that combination

I hate to say it, but (at least in the pictures) it looked better before. and I like operose's idea about lengthening and 'rounding' off the bars. but I bet it's beefy! good work!

Austin...where was that? looks kinda like stubbs bay, but I can't tell
-
yep, look for the rotary rx, it sounds sweet, but I haven't heard anything about it in months

relax, both of you, IMHO, this is better placed in the new gen forum, but it's certainly more relavant here than offroad.

swapping in a tcase takes alot of fabrication, even on a true 4WD older gen soob but, the center diff is viscous, and quite so. so it's pretty hard to have one wheel spinning free (you have to be VERY stuck!) the biggest disadvantage is the lack of lo range. makes it hard to do steep hillclimbs and such. but the added low end torque of the EJ motor makes up for much of that. but yea, they make pretty good wheelers, check out what some other members have been doing with their EJ series cars

the one I've got looks more like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dynomax-24222-Muffler-Thrush-Header-Glasspack-Red_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33636QQitemZ8038923218QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I just measured the OD of the pipe I wanted to attach it to: 2" and then did a search on ebay for a glasspack, found the cheapest one with a 2" inlet, and bought it.

I would say legacy, more parts availability, unless you really want true 4wd instead of awd...

a short clip of me last summer at the crawl 4 the cure. That's stock exhaust with a thrush glasspack instead of the muffler http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/jul04_craw4cure/numbchux_attitute_alley.AVI

actually, there is a limit to how big you can go, the firewall is only a few inches behind the back of the front fender. McBrat put 30's on a 3" lifted brat, but had to bash the heck out of his firewall. My black wagon's got 29's and a 3" lift, and the fenders have been trimmed almost completely off. and they still rub on the framerails (which you don't want to be trimming) and mud doesn't mean anything for gearing, rev it up, and dump the clutch. get into some rack crawls, where you have to be more precise. you'll find yourself dragging the clutch everywhere.

where did the "top speed" thread?
Numbchux replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you were the only one, then -
I had one on my blue wagon (until it fell off.....don't use muffler clamps on a glasspack), and I've got 2 on my black one (previous owner). They're great, very nice sound, and not too much, especially if you've still got a cat. they sound alot better than the cheap cherry bomb glass packs! I don't think that's quite the right size. the one I bought for my blue wagon was 2" ID and fit perfect.

no, it's not in every single thread, but it's in about every third thread. and if sigs were enabled, it would be in virtually everyone's sigs.....but I'm not going to start ranting about that too.... the info's out there, it all depends on how much fender trimming you want to do.
-
ahhh....well....nevermind then.....I vote loyale with EG33

I'm sure it was deleted....not exactly a good idea to be posting on a public forum by how much you broke the law now is it? -
the ER27 wasn't any more available in the loyale any more than the EJ22... neither was the EZ33 in the legacy.... find a legacy turbo

I'm sure we'll talk again before then, but if you don't get to it before my spring break (week of march 13), I can bring down an extra tranny xmember, and probably other stuff. I got so much with Morgan's wagon!
