  1. I'm not sure which strut top will work, but the struts will work for sure. You need to understand, that this is a pretty rare modification, there are still only a few people in the country who've dont it, so alot of information just doesn't exist anyway, order the struts, when you get them, compare the strut tops with yours, and see which ones will work.
  2. I don't know what kind of trails you hit, but out here the rocks would get it. I've bashed mine a few times, I've thought many times about taking it out, and putting a fuel cell in the car. But I just can't afford a project like that right now. maybe some other time.
  3. I have heard of 3 people who have stripped out the rear output on the tranny running in RWD (well, 2 of them were tcased offroad rigs, but similar situation). All 3 were cases of abuse though, maybe don't flog it quite as hard as you normally would. It's quite tough, but not as tough as it used to be.
  4. hmmm...so does the one on my hard drive you didn't miss anything, that's where it's supposed to end, apparently windows movie maker decided to add a few minutes of nothing to the end of it
  5. I didn't have time to test run them...they both work? sound too?
  6. Tribute to my old '85, 13Mb http://media.putfile.com/Tribute-to-the-Chuxwagon Vid of my blue '88, mostly pics, but a few cool videos, 6Mb http://media.putfile.com/Chuxwagon-2 enjoy
  7. Thanks to whoever stickied this! also, I was looking at the site, and I was wrong, we didn't raise $10k......it was $21k!!! We'd like to hit $50k this year! So if you can, please help
  8. you're very welcome! My mom has MS too, so I've done everything I could to do this! singletrack, my engine seized a few weeks back, and I don't have time for an EJ swap now, and I don't want to rebuild and install an engine that'll be taken out for an EJ22 in 2 months.....so it'll rest until summer, but then, it will rise again!
  9. I think this fits best here in the offroad section, since It's an offroad event....but it's raising money for MS, so it might be better placed in OT. Mods: move it if you feel necessary.... anyway....once again, I'll be running the Crawl 4 the Cure ( www.crawl4cure.org ) as many of you might remember, MorganM and I went last year, and had great success! IIRC, we raised somewhere around $10k!! This year, Morgan will be coming again, but in his new rig: a Zuk Samaurai.... since my wagon is dead, I bought his old wagon, and will be running it long story short: I would like to ask as many of you as can/would like to help. to do so. any donation will help, I do accept paypal, and any donation over $20, I will pay the paypal fees! I'm working with buddies to raise as much as possible, but the requirement is $200 per person.... pm me for info on donating (paypal addy, home addy if you'd like to send a check) ALSO: donations are tax deductable if allowed in your area....I can fill out a receipt and mail it to you upon request
  10. nope, XT6 front calipers have the ebrake impreza ones don't soooo, if you don't want to work out a rear ebrake solution (there are a couple, do a search), just use XT6 stuff. if you don't mind working out the ebrake stuff, you can get much better brakes using impreza stuff...
  11. yep, they're the same size. SAE tire measurements are total tire diameter, and tread width...metric is tread width, then sidewall height, written as a percentage of the first number, so the tire diameter is very dependant on all 3 numbers..... as long as the wheel offset is the same, the tires will fit the same
  12. here's what I want..... '92 loyale wagon RX tranny/rear diff somewhat built EJ22 N/A motor 5-lug swap with GC8 front brakes 200SX rear ebrake conversion KYB GR2 shocks coilovers thick swaybars 13"steelies off a FWD impreza stock wheel covers but that's my car, don't steal it!!! lol, kidding
  13. it's true, that if you use GC8 impreza stuff up front, you lose front ebrake.....however....that doesn't mean you get it in back. the rear still uses XT6 stuff.... BUT.....rumor has it, that nissan 200SX rear calipers are a direct bolt-up, and have rear ebrake. then all you have to do is run the cable!
  14. don't get sucked into the myth that wider tires = better off road performance! IMHO, it can help, but it can hurt too. personally, I think tread pattern, and height (only for ground clearance though) are your only major concern as far as tires go. I can't say whether the outback struts will not work on yours, but I do know, the forester parts WILL work on your impreza, and I think you still need the tops from your impreza.....but do a search, I know there is more info for sure again, I don't have an EJ subaru, so I have no idea, but I think those swampers should fit. but don't quote me on it I would say that scorpion springs would definately be overkill. the forester springs will give you more than enough suspension lift, and I do think that the scorpion springs will just limit your flex off road. not to mention the fact that I think they're only available in australia
  15. you could use either size, but I would say 215 would be about your max doesn't matter what tread pattern, as long as it's about that size the 2 sizes you're looking at are 27.1" and 27.7" so if you're going with something standard sized, that's your diameter, and I would say 7-8" wide would be good AA is the only company to make an EJ body lift in the US forester parts fit on impreza....outback for legacy skidplate will be different after the body lift, you've got sort of the right idea, but you might want to make something a little more exact. sounds like you've got a good plan! get started
  16. well, I wouldn't jump to say that the AA kit is better than the BYB kit, they're both very good. however, BYB doesn't make an EJ kit....so you have to go with the AA one. 15" steelies are perfect for wheeling a subaru. most decent sized off road tires come for 14 or 15 inch wheels, gives you lots of sidewall for a larger contact patch off road, and allowing you to air down more effectively. the subrame lift isn't too hard to install (well, I assume it isn't, it's not on an EA car, and the EJ's aren't much different) but even though a subaru lift is pretty straightforward, it's still amazing how quick the costs rack up. and tires are spendy. I'd say get the struts/springs, and some tires. and add the body lift this summer sometime, or next year...
  17. yea, I know....I didn't phrase that very well anyway, I'm not sure why anyone would consider cutting and adding length to the struts...
  18. I know you've sort of made up your mind, but nonetheless, it should be stated that an AA lift requires the use of Outback/Forester struts to gain the clearance at the spring perch.... so you're options are spring/strut lift or spring/strut lift AND AA body lift. that being said, EJ wheel wells are a bit bigger than old gen cars, Austin is running the exact size tires on his impreza that I'm running on my 4" lifted GL, and I had to do some serious pounding to get 'em to fit, and they still rub when I turn. Zap.....the Outback/Forester strut mod lifts the car by extending the bottom of the strut. The AA kit puts blocks on the top of the strut just like virtually all the EA body lifts (excluding mine and a couple other's rear end....which I LOVE)
  19. no, you could just mount the front half of the driveshaft......I'm sure there are ways around it....
  20. yes, except, the driveshaft helps to hold in the tranny fluid. sitting level, the fluid will not leak out with the driveshaft removed....but if it's tipped even slightly back, it will, so I'm sure it would if you were driving.

    12" wheels?

And they make atv wheels with a 4x135 (or something like that, it's close) lug pattern, but they're not even as strong as the wheels on your donut spares. Sweet82 runs avt tires on custom wheels, but his buggy weighs a fraction of a full subie. It looks like he put those wheels on his wagon, but probalby just for test fittin, and pics.
  22. Numbchux

    12" wheels?

yep, it's been discussed before.... long story short, they're not strong enough to hold up the weight of a subaru
  23. I'm just not a turbo guy, never really have been. mostly because I have a very heavy right foot, and the amount of easy power available with a turbo scares me and my driving record.... and yes, it'll get an EJ22 soon enough, but the lifted wagon needs it worse, and I can't afford to buy a second motor (not to mention the adapter plate or the time to wire it) in one summer and, this will be an autocross/rallyX/ice race toy (read: not real competetive, just fun), so lo-end torque will be more important than peak hp...
  24. '88 GL wagon 5MT D/R4WD stock tires, 25city/29hwy (about, I didn't drive it much with stock tires) 28's, 21/21 (not powerful enough for 5th gear....)
